Coutinho and  Hazard would be a dream in January!!!

Throwing money at players on a downward spiral struggling for motivation and form. Yikes!

I don't feel excited. Hopefully he keeps us up this season :undecided:

Both you and Pilko will come around eventually.

Right after we smash Conte's Spurs 3 nil.

love the optimism but we've not been anything resembling a possession team at any point in recent history and he's either going to have to completely change the mentality of the squad very quickly or go with a style he's never used before. If there was more time than an international break to sort it out then I might be more hopeful but all Howe will have is the 2 weeks before we start going into the busiest part of the season and he'll have some players away too. If he doesn't hit the ground running and get wins we're going down

We're finally going to get to see if it is really such a gargantuan task to improve the way a team uses the ball, like Bruce had us all convinced it was. He never told us he was only having training 3 days a week and that he was off on holiday during international breaks though.

Having seen how much emphasis Howe places on hard work and how his training sessions emphasise using the ball well in game like situations, I'd bet we see a level of improvement good enough to see us improve and cause teams more problems. In January we will also be spending money to make improvements too, which will also be a massive boost.

I think Steve Bruce and his bunch of cronies are going to be exposed for the frauds they are, in convincing us all this team of players were completely useless and incapable of any kind of possession or attacking play.

Underwhelming, never got the hype around him and how in gods name the media was linking him with Arsenal Spurs etc while he was at Bournemouth but as with anyone let's see how he does. One thing of major concern in the short term is he's likes to play a possession game and our squad is incapable of that so god knows how that will work

Currently incapable of it because of the work shy mess that was in charge previously.

Hope Howe gets in there and starts off with daily double sessions like Vieira has been doing at Palace.

One thing I learned in documentaries is that sometimes seemingly stupid questions actually show a willingness to let go of certain axioms, and can open the doors in surprising and revelatory ways. I wouldn't trust many of these axioms in the fucking paleolithic ethos that many of these English football people adopt.

    Yes, thank you.

'They've been shocked by some of the questions being asked' for goodness sake ... only because they were questions they weren't used to being asked and didn't want being asked!

I like the fact the new bunch aren't typical football people and aren't just going to accept things because that's what's done. It's ridiculous.

    Quite the opposite actually

It was such a ridiculous thing to tweet, honestly.

Think it's a good sign that we're not going to be a soft touch.

You know I'm somehow not surprised to see something like this stated.

After Amanda and Mehrdad's first introduction I could tell they weren't typical slimy football circle types, and feared they were a bit naïve and would be taken advantage of.

Sounds like those in the footballing circles (agents especially) were hoping they had a nice new fat cow they could take advantage of financially, but have been left sorely disappointed, and so now they're bitching.

By all accounts Amanda and Mehrdad have been working alongside some very experienced individuals in the game in Frank McParland and Owen Brown, and so not buying this bullshit.

Glad it's not Lampard or Martinez at least - It's time to get behind the manager now. Let's go!

Would have been so difficult to get excited about Lampard having seen some of the details about his time at Chelsea that were posted on here from the Athletic. Seems he's the next generation of PFM. All but confirmed earlier today when Allardyce was putting him forward for the Newcastle job.

Martinez I think would have also had me quite worried as he just seems a bit too flimsy. I just didn't really trust him to come in and make a strong impression, or have any real impact. Think we needed someone a bit tougher and more demanding.

Really relieved neither of those came in. I would have been very worried.

The type of bloke we now have in charge. That alone is enough when we consider the mess of a man who previously had.

Ah man, a manager with a modicum of integrity again man. Thank the good Lord.

Sick to the back teeth of the condescending, patronising, blame shifting bullshit we've been served up the last few years.

Be interested to see how he handles/makes use of ASM.

His wide men were always such a headache with their directness, pace and dribbling. Could see him really playing well under Howe.

At Bournemouth the likes of Stanislas, Fraser and Ibe were very effective for him, and none of those are even comparable to ASM's abilities.

ASM is going to have to buck up his ideas from a fitness and work rate point though, and if he does that he should look even more effective out there.

It'll be reputational, he put his balls to the wall with Fonseca.

He was reporting that things got to the contract discussion stage during talks with Fonseca, yeah.

It all sounded really promising at one point, and so there's a chance things did fall apart somewhere at the final agreements stage.

We've since heard that Emery didn't like the relegation break clause and so something like that might have put off Fonseca too. Guess we'll never know.

  12. 14 minutes ago, Super Duper Branko Strupar said:

He'll not start Ritchie. All he needs to do is get Lewis playing to the level he was playing for a relegated Norwich City. I'm pretty sure even I could do that. No surprises Cabbage Kebab couldnt. But your right if he doesnt play Dubs, Lewis, Fernandez, Shaar/Lescelles, Manquillo, Hayden, Longstaff, Willock, ASM, Wilson and Miggy, or some variation of, there'll be questions rightly.

I really think we need to give him the room to pick who he sees fit best to carry out his plans on the pitch. It may well be that we see Ritchie start more initially because he knows exactly what the manager requires as far as how the team should be setup to play and so there will be some value in having him out there.

Really hope folks don't get on his back based on starting elevens especially initially. Give the guy a bit of time to figure out who works best for what he wants to do out on the pitch. Besides, to some extent we have to give the players all a bit of a break too, because they can't keep getting judged for their performances under a manager that was only having training 3 times a week, and clearly just didn't give a damn about improving them or coming up with any kind of tactical innovation to capitalise on their strengths.

Clean slate for all as far as I'm concerned, and really looking forward to seeing how it all comes together. Love the fact Howe went into the interview and actually mentioned how far below their potential level the team was performing, because I've always thought this was the case.

What @KaKa has been posting re: Howe is spot on.

I was very excited about Emery and very disappointed when he bailed.  Yeah, I think he bailed.  He's at a club he loves, in an area his family is comfortable so I totally understand why he got cold feet.  Count me amongst those who will think he'll regret his decision on a professional level.  Such is the potential the club has.

One guy wants to be here, a bunch of others didn't.  Within reason, I'll take the guy who wants to be here.  Howe, on a slightly smaller scale, I'll grant you that, has done what the consortium are looking for.  He taken a team up through the tiers, punching above it's weight while keeping an eye on building for the future.  He's impressed them with his vision and the detail of how to take the club from A to B to C, etc.  Does he get to run the whole show?  No.  Someone like McParland is likely to come on board in some kind of role and a DoF will also be hired.  Howe will likely have a say in who comes in but won't be responsible for running that part of the show.  He will focus on on the field operations and have a hand in some other processes.  He not a sexy continental guy.  doesn't have wavy hair and speak with an accent.  He's also not a dodgy PFM with narrow vision and lack of imagination.

No one coming in right now is guaranteed success, bar Rafa.  I don't see Howe as a safety net pick.  I see him as one of a few very good choices looked at by the consortium and I think he has some solid credentials from his time at Bournemouth, He has some dynamism and al lot of smarts too.

There was a bit about the new ownership wanting to target someone that projected as both a good short-term and long-term manager, who can come in and consolidate things with the right backing, and then grow with the club as it goes from strength to strength of the back of all the various things that are going to be put in place throughout the club, with a complete structural overhaul.

The manager that comes in is going to have access to a whole different level of recruitment technologies and support, same with data analysis and statistics, high level execs with great contacts in football etc. It's a great opportunity for a manager with potential who could really elevate further under these conditions. Its why I could really see Howe coming in and doing better than expected and then being in a position to grow further.

Funnily enough a good friend of mine is a season ticket holder at Arsenal and knows some people that work within the club, and when I told him Emery had turned us down and we were looking at Howe, he thought Howe was a better move. He said Emery struggled badly at Arsenal with getting his ideas across with people at the club because his English was not very good and he didn't/wouldn't use a translator. He thought Emery might have ultimately decided against Newcastle because his experiences outside of Spain have not turned out well so far (At PSG, Arsenal and Spartak), and he thinks it was largely down to communication issues, and so at this point Emery just wanted to perhaps stay where both he and his family are currently comfortable and settled.

I'm baffled by Jones like, he hasn't even tried to put his own spin on things. You'd think he'd at least want to show that he has something about him.

Its been shocking really. Took the easy way out. Very disappointing.

  15. 2 minutes ago, WarrenBartonCentrePartin said:

I did, but I don’t see him as someone who will necessarily come in and change things around too much - and most definitely not straight away. We expected it from Jones, it didn’t happen and I see the same here.

But his teams have always played that way. He has said himself that it's the way he sets his teams up, and he wouldn't have it any other way. Be weird if he came in and just left things like they have been with us sitting in our box every game. It would be the first time he's ever done that.

'Instead, that title goes to ex-Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe who coached Wilshere for the 2016-17 season.

He said: "The angriest one would probably be Eddie Howe.

"He had a group of players who had been with him through League One and the level of training that he demanded from them in terms of intensity and focus.

"You could just be doing a simple passing drill and if you didn't do it properly he would be on you, shouting and screaming at you. But it worked. He got the best out of them boys."

Exactly what we need right now, a huge uptick in intensity.

The team is so pathetically lax and passive. It's so disgusting. I'd pay good money to watch him light a fire under some of those pansies in training.

  18. 5 minutes ago, duo said:

He's not going to attract any better quality of player which is what we need.  I just don't get it - a massive gamble imo.  I am not saying he's a bad coach just don't think he's the right man to take us forward and more importantly keep us up.

Not going to be able to attract a better quality of player? Come on man ...

More excited if it’s true he’s bringing his own coaching team with him

Yeah just saw that tweet. He insisted on it.

It also mentions that it was a big part of why he ultimately didn't go to Celtic as they weren't going to allow him to bring in a full backroom team.

This is what I can't get my head around. If he's turned down numerous jobs so that he can get the right opportunity, why would this situation be the right opportunity for him? It doesn't really make any sense.

Because it's an incredible opportunity to be part of rebuilding a club from the bottom up, and he'll seemingly be working with owners that are very engaged and intent on having the team challenge at the very top, with the resources to back that all up.

How does that not make sense?

  21. 6 minutes ago, WarrenBartonCentrePartin said:

Howe is so underwhelming like. Honestly don’t think he’ll change that much. Can’t see him instantly thinking it makes far more sense to have a ball-playing centre half in the side rather than Ciaran twatting Clark, for example.

Did you not ever see Bournemouth play then?

  22. We now have the clearest indication that we should never under any circumstances have Lampard anywhere near this club, as he has received a ringing endorsement for the Newcastle job from the hippo head himself Sam Allardyce.

Interesting that the PFMs don't tend to champion Eddie Howe as much. Very good sign IMO.

  23. 4 minutes ago, AyeDubbleYoo said:

It's a bit premature to assume he's going to love Ritchie and Fraser just because he knows them from years ago. He'd be a terrible manager if he made decisions like that.

At the same time if he does decide to use them just let him get on with it, as he may well be able to get something out of them that gets us results.

The man was using Dan Gosling in midfield long after he left us and his team played football light year's ahead of what we have recently. Just let him do his job if he does come in. In January we should then be able to start a squad rebuild.

  24. 8 minutes ago, morpeth mag said:

I am warming to Howe and trust in a DoF set-up he wouldn't get the chance to make the same transfer calls.

But, I do worry he is used to working with players of lesser ability and might make do with players that need to be shipped on like Ritchie, Shelves, Clark, Gayle, Darlow et Al

We have to avoid relegation but also look like a club going places in order to recruit.

The new owners have stated their desire is to build a club that eventually challenges at the top, he's going to be aware of that and he will know it's a completely different challenge with the resources available to make them a reality.

He's not going to come in and be trying to hold on to the likes of Shelvey and Ritchie man. Come on

At the same time his experience with lesser players will be good in the interim because he should be able to hopefully get more out of this bunch in the lead up to January.

His Bournemouth teams were very high energy, and so I think the team will be built around Wilson, ASM, Miggy, Fraser, Willock and Hayden as far as the midfield and forward areas are concerned.
