Really wanted (and want) Fonseca but I'd obvs be absolutely thrilled with Emery.

If the kebab lord hadn't left us in such a state we probably would have given him a shot at it, but ultimately Emery is a top class hire that is an echelon above the Fonz, and I too was a fan of the idea of the Fonz coming in and instilling some fantasy football. Emery is next level though, would be a top notch long term appointment.

Spurs are in a totally different position to us on and off the pitch..

If we was top half and had everything in place behind the scenes ..I've no doubt this process would be completed by now.

Spurs always release the name of a manager through the airwaves soon after firing one, only to then go and hire someone completely different. Goodness knows who they will end up with.

If they do get Conte that would be pretty impressive. I'll believe it when I see it though. And if he does join them I'll start the clock on it going tits at some point.

He would also represent the ambition of the new owners as well as in not settling for an out of work manager.

Yes, absolutely. Would also make more sense as to why it has taken a bit of time to sort out.

  4. Emery would be the ideal hiring, because his teams are very well balanced and organised and they are decent to watch too, and we'd be a threat to at least threaten to win a cup the quickest with him.

He's basically a younger Benitez

Any wife who isn't willing to leave in the North East for a couple of days a week for 5 years whilst earning a gazillion quid a year wants a divorced pronto.

I also think it's absolute bollocks BTW. The reason players/managers edge towards London is because Arsenal, Spurs and even West Ham haven't been ambitionless voids for the last 15 years. Funny how Manchester is manageable.

Perhaps when we do lure a star like Wijnaldum, we match their ambitions on the pitch. Or perhaps when we do convince Modric to look around the training ground, it's not a dilapidated mess and we don't tell his agent he is too small to play in the PL.

It's those things that make us unattractive, it's nowt to do with the North East weather.

That's why IMO the number one remit for the new manager absolutely has to be wife control.

If that is what he is doing he is incredibly stupid. Thanks for the heads up though, not reading anything he puts out again.

Luke wants another PFM because he needs one of them for a chance of a friendship. He knows a real manager won't be taking him for free lunches.

Honestly I will be fuming if we get anyone he's pushing for in. The guy is impossibly clueless.

  8. That Telegraph article makes me sick. Why does Edwards keep pushing for Lampard and now Terry?! What kind of moron thinks those guys should get the job for goodness sake. If the new folks fall prey to the whole premier league experience thing and get in one of those jokers we are done for.

If they really do decide it has to be someone that knows the league and someone who is available like that stupid article says then just go and get AVB.

This is why I find some of the managerial links a bit strange because some of them don’t match up with the Sporting directors linked.

Yeah, guess we'll find out who both will be soon enough.

Was he overlooked? As I recall at the time, it was reported he had knocked us back.

Ah, yes. Now you mention it I think I recall seeing that.

However, when you consider that he just accepted the Crystal Palace job, I think it is safe to assume that our approach was very unimpressive and we did a rubbish job of making the position remotely interesting or enticing, because it really should not have been difficult to get him at that point in time.

I’d swap a lot of Palace’s current squad for our lot

Considering the state that team was in going into the summer, it was an extraordinarily top notch rebuild by Vieira, who is looking like he is going to be an elite manager.

Just a reminder that Vieira was of course one of the names we considered and overlooked under Ashley ...

I’d love us to sign Conor Gallagher, he was immense yesterday.

Unfortunately the ship has sailed. He's going to break into the Chelsea team next season. He'll be playing as much as Mason Mount does for them in a year.

There's far too much talk of hesitation and indecision considering we have absolutely zero idea what's going on behind the scenes. If anything the snippets of information we do have suggest otherwise.

Yeah, think the original plan was Rafa and his guy McParland.

Once the takeover went through, with Rafa having gone to Everton, seems they decided to review the whole situation and look at all available directors and managers, and interview their favourites. Bit of a process, but ultimately I think it will be in the best interests of the club.

  14. 1 minute ago, GWN said:

Yes , it should have been number 1 priority, the very next day they bought the club, she has zero football knowledge at this level.

Sounds like one of the reasons things have taken so long is because they have been interviewing for both positions and so pretty sure we'll be announcing both a sporting director and manager at the same time. Might well be the case they interviewed the sporting directors and asked for the managers they would want during the process and then interviewed each directors manager preferences too.

Spurs in for Conte according to the Italian press, wonder if we tried for him ?

Spurs are incredibly funny man. A complete disaster of a club.

  16. Can only see the intro bit of that Times article, but it seems all interviews are done now, thank God. And Staveley has put together her recommendations for a number of key positions to restructure the club, and that is being shared with PIF leadership for their final sign off, and so I imagine this will all be sorted this week. Very interested to see who will be coming in. Big week for the club.

Newcastle United will accelerate the process of appointing a new manager and sports director after the Saudi Arabia-led £305 million takeover of the club. The Sunday Times understands that minority owner and club director Amanda Staveley is due to make recommendations on the dual roles this week to the Public Investment Fund (PIF), the Saudi sovereign wealth fund that holds 80 percent of Newcastle’s shares.

Staveley, whose PCP Capital investment company brokered the controversial takeover, earning a management contract to run Newcastle, has led interviews of a series of candidates for positions central to a plan to restructure the relegation-threatened club into one capable of competing for the Premier League title within five years.

Unwinnable games being the top 6 or whatever, we'd be naive to assume we can bridge that gap quickly.

Has anyone seen this? And does anyone know if he's a fake ITK Gobshite?

Read something else just this morning saying Rafa had informed the club via intermediaries that he will not be coming back, as he does not want to turn his back on his agreement with Everton.

Also we aren’t really too affected by the international break the majority of our players don’t go so that’s a good period for the new manager to get too work.

Good point. I also hope that said people are observing these three games Jones will be in charge of to also allow them to get some idea of the level the current players are at, as far as matchday performances go.

  20. 1 minute ago, SUPERTOON said:

Northern echo saying jones will probably be in charge for the Brighton game and a sporting director and manager will be in during the international break.

Would be a good time for them to really come in, settle and make preparations for the remainder of the season during the break.
