And on the Ritchie thing.... he also sold the cunt.

    Exactly

He'll use him as part of the squad if he's a good option, but the idea he's going to be guaranteed a place is a bit much.

Gotta be a bit weird rocking up to a job that you and the whole world knows you were at best the second choice for

Sure all the money bags help of course

Why though? He was the second choice but isn't anymore because the previous first choice showed himself up.

Where is the shame in being one of the top two options for a job that is such a great opportunity. I'd be more than happy. The top guy has definitely dropped the ball, so go ahead grab it and run with it.

The issue with Howe for me, and apologies if it has been said by someone before, is two fold.

    1. I feel would have just about been attainable under Ashley.  So to end up with him after we've made something of a Fautian pack with this takeover is disappointing.  Robert Johnson didn't sell his soul to be really good at the recorder did he.

    2. We could easily end up with a Nuno at Spurs situation, with it being pretty clear he was quite far down the list and his authority and therefore ability to change things severely diminished as a result.

I think we're giving Ashley way too much credit when it comes to appointing Howe. Think Howe would have flat out rejected him

Howe under Ashley would have had nothing to spend, no improvements to any areas of the club whatsoever, fans all still pissed off and fed up with everything. Don't think it would have been feasible at all.

Howe seems like he is being quite selective over his next move.

I doubt it had anything to do with the leak.

Villareal is family run and I suspect that they pulled at his heartstrings.

Of course he needs to give some bullshit reasons for why he didn't come, some of which have already been debunked.

100% man. Think he's still scarred by what happened at Arsenal as mentioned in that article.

Think he genuinely panicked and bottled it. Cost himself a really great opportunity. It's unbelievable.

The new owners would have backed him to the hilt and it would have been nothing like the situation at Arsenal. Crazy over reaction from him having agreed everything in principle.

  5. Saw we were linked with Dolberg the other day. One of my favourite young strikers that is seemingly under the radar as he doesn't get mentioned a lot. Hope we get him before someone else does. He is class.

Howe is a student of the game, whether it's all talk and bluster is a different matter but I simply can't see anyone sharing videos from Gerrard, Lampard or Terry talking in depth about the game like the ones about Howe.

I echo @ScottishMagpie 's earlier post. I don't think these players will react to a coach that isn't a people person. They absolutely need structure and organization but large parts of the "leadership group" have since slowly leaked out disliking rafa's methods, I think they might have totally switch off to Emery or someone that is strict. Howe is a happy medium but obviously a downgrade. I am confident it will work with these players to January, when attitudes can be shipped out but remains to be seen who we can attract with Howe in charge.

That masterclass video was great. Goes into great detail about every aspect of that game and what he required each player to do both defending and attacking. Also talked about all the other approaches they had previously tried against Chelsea, and how that time around they changed the formation to match theirs and how they then tried to neutralise Chelsea's build up. Fantastic stuff. Definitely got substance to him and doesn't just seem to be all talk.

Obviously very disappointed with all this.

But watching a few Howe Videos on his Process, attitude and football beliefs, I see him as similar to Rogers.

I'd like someone who wants to be here and is not a delicate flower, from the sounds of it Emery is a little delicate.

I appreciate Howe or Fonseca are not in his League, yet. But let's give him a crack.

He's still night and day ahead of the last few 'Managers' we've had skill wise. He also seems a really likable yet driven individual, who might just step up another level with the right encouragement, support and backing. I'm surprised by his 'dark' side he speaks about - the guys a winner!

He's young and progressive - get the lad in and let's get behind him.

If he does well, it's his to keep, if he's shite we move on.

Yeah, I said previously he could easily end up being our own Rodgers or Potter. He seems to be on their type of wavelength as far as being more progressive and also having a strong belief in playing good football and getting at teams.

I was blowing just watching that.

Yeah, he has them working their socks off.

Really liked how each part of that was planned out, and then the short game after to have them apply what they've worked on.

I think this is true due to the nature of the press release that he was coming and would be here for the Brighton game.

Think Emery bottled it. Maybe it had something to do with that white witch woman

I’m not bothered who we get now like, as long as it isn’t Roberto Martinez or Frank Lampard.

Had a bad feeling about Howe earlier on today, but coming around to the idea of him coming here now. If that’s who the new owners want then they need to get a move on.

Yeah, after that masterclass video was posted, I watched it and then went back and looked at the highlights from his time at Bournemouth. They really did play some outrageous football at times.

As that video details he beat Conte 3 nil at Chelsea and then the next season when Chelsea came to Bournemouth under Sarri he thrashed them 4 nil. He was doing this with the likes of Gosling, Stanislas and Ibe in his team. That's crazy. Think I needed a reminder of some of his best moments at Bournemouth.

I absolutely do think he will need support in recruitment and that would be big for him. I don't think he knew the foreign market too well and so he couldn't really get good value in the market with players from abroad that he knew well.

Enjoyed this ?? whatever happens, going from Bruce to even Howe would be a massive fucking upgrade, at least the bloke seems to have plans and ideas and how to change against opposition.

I mean if this guy gets the gig I would be really rooting for him to do very well. Just really like the guy and how he comes across.

Hopefully he has learnt from his time at Bournemouth. I remember seeing an interview with him saying Covid was a blow for him because he was hoping to travel more and learn from other managers and clubs.

Think he has a lot of potential to be a fantastic manager. He's got the right mindset.

Give it to Allardyce until the end of the season and if he keeps us up give him such a handsome reward that he never has to manage any football club ever again.

    Then appoint Benitez.

Allardyce just took West Brom down last season

I'd just go all out for Potter personally.

Having what is looking like it's going to be an amazing season at Brighton.

Not sure he'd switch from that to trying to keep us up and sorting out our mess.

    Love Fonseca's enthusiasm man.

If Fonseca is considered a risk and so you go for an Emery fair enough.

If the alternatives to Fonseca are Howe and Martinez, then for me the element of risk exists with all of those.

Fonseca has managed at the highest level from those three and has won the most silverware. Do it.

If we were midtable Bruce would probably still be here.

    What a terrifying thought

  18. If we were in mid table we would have hired Fonseca or Favre by now. It's really quite unfortunate.

You've got all these morons on Sky and Talksport saying we need a relegation specialist and I think that's affected the decision making a bit, as it has meant they are prioritising someone that knows the league.

I just think that is really silly. There's loads of managers that know the league and they still stink.

  19. 9 minutes ago, mighty__mag said:

It was more in reference to the handling of Emery. If we had perhaps said 4yr deal when can you sign, things might have turned out differently. So you're saying Fonseca would sign 18 month deal with the possibility of being sacked as the club persue a long term managerial target?

I think most managers are not necessarily going to be keen on a short term project, including Howe, or Martinez. I'd guess someone like Lampard might take a short term role?

They don't need a short term appointment. Just go for the best you can get right now, and try to get someone that could potentially develop into a long term option.

All the reports on Fonseca were really promising as they said the consortium were really impressed by him. Think they're only holding back because they're listening to all the voices saying we need prem experience to avoid the drop.

If he did well in the interview and you thought he was a really good manager that would do well then just go for it, and don't second guess it so much.

I’m reference to Solanke he is only coming good now because he’s in the championship.

All part of his development I think. Think he has improved a fair bit since. I think they'll be coming back up under Parker and so next season we'll see how he gets on. Think he'll continue to look far better than he was first time around in the prem. He was a big prospect as a youngster and I think the hype of that big money move was a bit much for him especially after he started off so slowly getting a first goal.

  21. 7 minutes ago, HaydnNUFC said:

Good watch on Howe, even if you're not a fan.

Funny seeing Solanke in that thumbnail. Seemed a bad purchase at the time, but he's really starting to come along now. Was just a bit too early for him at that  stage.

I'd find it easy to back Howe to be honest. Seems a decent and genuine guy that is a legit student of the game. Could easily see him come in and do really well, especially if we sort all other areas of the club so that he is supported by a top notch DOF setup.

For me now, we need to go all out for someone like Fonseca, stop being honest about our ambitions,  just lie, get them on board, and deal with unrest later, football is brutal, being open an honest does you no favours sometimes.

Promise the world, and that way if you know said person isn't your long term man, fuck him off further down the line.

Play the game, these managers will, they get mental payouts for being dismissed.

We really don't need to do all that. Fonseca seems like he really wants it as things stand

There are managers that want this job. Think we're just being a bit too cautious with prioritising prem experience, but it's understandable I guess thanks to Bruce having us in the bottom three.

I think they should take a bit of a risk and get the Fonz in. He just seemed to get it. The guy apparently even had plans of who to sign ensure survival for goodness sake.

Maybe they turned emerys head at first but then he has decided he is loyal to villareal.

Mountain out of a mole hill

Yeah, it increasingly seems like he was just interviewed and then got impatient having not heard back.

Would be interesting to know where that leak about him coming in before the Brighton game came from. Seems so weird, as everything else has been so quiet.

Are we certain we were all set to appoint him?
