Now Bruce has been sacked I’m totally calm about all this. I know they are trying to get the best person for the job, not the cheapest. That’s massive but will take some time whilst they find their feet. We know how important a manger is to a club and this next appointment is as big as it gets for a club on its knees.

Absolutely. Would be even more appreciated if they get in some one really decent. Can you even imagine if they had insisted on keeping Bruce during the whole time until they found a replacement though. This place would have been wild

  2. Apparently they are working with people that are in advisory roles at the minute.

I think once they gave Jones both the Palace and Chelsea games it was an indication this week would be a quiet one.

If next week follows suit in the same way then that would be somewhat concerning.

No matter how close his family live, it was a stupid move for him. Was always going to end one way.

Yeah, he dropped the ball big time on this one.

There was so much resistance to the move, and to think if he had just listened he would be our manager right now. Damn.

So how does that work? ‘Premier League clubs may not register more than two players on loan at any one time. - The maximum number of loans registrable in the same season is four, and, under no circumstances, shall more than one be from the same club at any one time.’

I'm thinking it was something that got lost in translation as I thought that was weird too. In any case I only mentioned it because I think we will be bringing in more than 1 or 2 players as LV mentioned.

Well aye, that one is just a token amount, Barca were clearly stung by the Neymar transfer and don't want it happening again. Its usually the smaller clubs where it happens.

Sociedad upped Isaks release clause from €40m to €90m this summer after his success. If it had stayed at 40, someone would have definitely met it soon enough like.

Yeah, think Arsenal were looking to sign him. Looks a fantastic prospect.

I can’t see us getting in more than 1 or maybe 2 players in Jan.

There was an article talking about how impressed our lot were with Fonseca's vision, and it said that Fonseca had also mentioned 5 players that he could get in to help stabilise the club this season, interestingly the article said they were 5 loan signings.

    Do Spain have betting shops?

    Maybe

I do think we are aiming super high to see if anyone bites, but because it's so early in the season and also where we are in the table it's unlikely to pan out I think.

  8. From that Romano tweet it sounds like of the managers currently available they have decided on Fonseca and have everything in place, with him having agreed to come also.

Seems that is all under the condition they are not able to get the 'something big' they are after, which I imagine is a bigger name that is currently under contract elsewhere. I am thinking that would be one of Benitez, Emery, Simeone or ten Hag from previous rumours.

No way we will get Simeone man.

Moved my post to the manager thread, as I just realised I posted it in the wrong place!

Anyway never said we would get Simeone

Was just referring to the top guys currently in jobs that we have been linked with. And we were linked with Simeone and the DOF at Atletico in the link below.

I should have included ten Hag on there as well too. With the links to him and Overmars in recent days.

I think this could cause a problem however I'm sure Rafa would have people I'm place for all the rooms required to rebuild the club

Remember the tweet below from a few weeks back.

  11. So here's the thing, even if Rafa is happy to stay at Everton because he just would never break a contract, what happens if we just deal directly with Everton and their owner and just came to an agreement and agreed compensation for them to release him, and they say he is free to leave. That's feasible right?

There's a chance Fonseca already tied up the job, and has just been given this time to get his stuff together, get his staff arranged, and also assess the team and recent matches. All the other links seem a bit fleeting at his point. Fabrizio Romano going as far as to tweet about his contract talks last week was a bit of an eye opener.

I'll make it easy for all of us.

    I don't want Martinez.

I'm fairly "meh" about Lampard but would get behind him.

Benitez and Rodgers aren't going to happen.

As for the rest, there's a real selection of quality/weakness in all of them. If I had to pick one of them, that I felt would guarantee us improvement over the next 4 years, whilst also playing some decent stuff, I'd pick Emery.

Emery is the one that would have me the most confident that we would stay up comfortably, and then start building towards winning stuff straight away.

    ???

Rodgers did what Howe did at Swansea -got them up and kept them up. Overall, he did a good job at Liverpool - they let him go primarily because Klopp was available and willing. Had they given him another year and smarter recruitment - he would've done a very good job. Overall - good job at a massive club imo.

Celtic he was a massive success. At the very least he showed he was a very good coach and a step above the dross. The domination domestically, the goals, the style and competitive in Europe.

The Celtic job proved he was a serious manager.

Howe is all the way back to the Swansea days.

Yes, I agree, which is why I said trajectory. I see similarities in their approach to the game and their desire to continue to learn. Howe's next job at what I imagine would be a club a step up from Bournemouth is going to be the real teller.

The Celtic job would have been good for Howe, but for some reason that fell through. Similarly if he had gone to Everton or Spurs over the summer that would have been good for him too. If he came to Newcastle at this point, I wouldn't be overly surprised if he ended up doing similar to what Rodgers ended up doing at Liverpool. Not saying its guaranteed, and he's not really a preference for me as I really like some of the other names we've been linked with a lot, but I could see it happen.

Well, as we seen with us, I guess a lot of them would be on twitter trying to find a way to explain why it's actually good to be owned by Saudi-Arabia, and that Saudi-Arabia isn't really that bad of a state anyway. Oh and they would also be pointing out that Saudi-Arabia also has a small ownership in several other companies as well, so it's all just hypocrisy and envy from other fans.

And we all know this is absolutely what would happen, and so I don't really understand why other fans all pretend it isn't. So strange.

    PFM

    That is shocking man

He's a proper PFM. I can't believe some managers still think like this.

At the level of the game they are managing at the majority of the players are incredibly talented, and so you have to find the smallest margins everywhere you can, and the intricate details are often what can indeed make the difference. Also having a well thought out plan against the different opposition you play, and also well set out instructions for your players in various situations is absolutely critical.

This man is sat there talking about passion and desire. Passion and desire with no direction usually equals complete and utter chaos! No wonder he had Man Utd trying to press Liverpool so recklessly yesterday. This man is a buffoon.

  17. Think he just needs to be in the right team. In a team that doesn't need him to press really aggressively defensively, and which creates chances for him consistently, with a good number of crosses coming in, I think he'd get goals in the prem.

When he was with us we sat deep all game and didn't create chances. At Fulham in the prem Parker had the team passing the ball around and wanted someone more mobile upfront, and I think also wanted a striker that pressed more.

Could he do a job in Brentford's current setup for example, playing the role Toney does?

I felt the last 30 mins was even more insulting was like a training session lol, at OT.

Yeah, having them just kill off the game like that partly out of pity is proper humiliating

    0-5 isn't a real kicking?

Nope. All things considered, winning by 5 with the way that game was going was so light.

In hindsight though the last 30 mins or so was a nice warm down for them, and prevented any of their players getting clattered and injured again, so was probably for the best for them.
