Need to get a proper manager and coaching staff asap and bin Jones and co. That first half showed me exactly what I’ve been saying for weeks, that Jones is just as much part of the problem. That was total wank, absolutely no plan whatsoever in the attacking third.

We played like this a full two and a half years before he ever showed up.

Think he's now just trying to grind out results in the interim time he is in charge because we are in such a precarious position, and because we are playing a very energetic and explosive Palace side.

Though it’s not a joy to watch, I think our football is at least organized and there is a clear tactical plan that is being followed. That’s a credit to Jones. Already miles ahead of Bruce there.

But this half is a clear wake up call about the shocking level of play and talent we currently have. PIF will have no doubts as to the scale of the upgrades needed.

The thing is with Jones being English, and with us being second bottom at the minute, it's quite typical we've come out setup like this really.

The standard mindset in this country is to close up and keep things tight if a team is struggling in the league. And so even if it isn't necessarily his ethos per se it's really what we should have expected in hindsight.

Exclusive - Frank Lampard has not applied to be the next manager of Newcastle United, 90min understands.

It is understood that Newcastle's new owners, led by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, had a genuine interest in Lampard and he was encouraged to make a move for the job.

Harry Redknapp is one major figure in English football whose opinion on their manager situation has been sought by Newcastle, and it is known that he gave Eddie Howe, one of the main contenders, a glowing reference.

Redknapp was also asked about his nephew Lampard, and it is no surprise that he was full of praise for him, and that led to some of Newcastle's hierarchy pursuing a move.

90min revealed earlier this week that Newcastle had initially narrowed down their shortlist to Howe, Lucien Favre and Paulo Fonseca - all of whom had interviews in recent days.

Former Roma boss Fonseca impressed hugely during his talks, although the club also continued conversations with Howe and Favre and want to get the decision right.

Third parties have put forward the likes of Belgium boss Roberto Martinez and Villarreal's Unai Emery - but Newcastle would prefer someone out of work as they would not want to become embroiled in any legal battles.

    Sounding promising for Fonseca

  4. Oh my God ... we've got a jobs for the boys guy in the camp in Jamie Reuben. Terrible news if he's going to be in there just trying to get his English/London mates into jobs at the club. Terrifying!
