I get what your saying, was just commenting more that I actually think he’s decent, and better than what we have. Bruce is the obvious caveat

Yeah, I hear you. Davies definitely has something about him, but unfortunately we just don't have the manager to make it worthwhile. He's already mismanaging several of the younger players we currently have.

We need to bring in players that are physically gifted and can thrive based off of those attributes. It's why Wilson, ASM and Willock do so well for us.

  2. Ntcham on a free and Edouard in the last year of his contract with all the big suitors looking elsewhere should have both been absolute no brainer additions for us this summer. This club right now is absolutely pitiful.

    Awful player. Bet it happens.

Think it will too. We were linked with him a lot last summer and there was an article saying Bruce was a big admirer of his.

From what I've seen of him I don't understand what kind of midfielder he's supposed to be. Has a few nice touches and moves the ball around pretty well, but that's about it really. Would be so typical as it's not clear what role he would be filling for us.

He's 23 years old and so MA will likely allow Bruce to bring him in. Club is a mess.

I honestly doubt we'll sign anyone.

Maybe one loan deal, that'll be it.

We should just write the season off now.

Good. Lets see how Bruce gets on under the same circumstances Rafa always had to operate under.

Hot take, this is good for both parties. Villa can build a very decent team and Grealish should be playing at a higher level

Yeah, I agree. Ironically I could even see Villa being a better team next season.

Buendia is really good and if Leon Bailey takes to the league quickly they could be very dangerous.

I don’t understand the situation at Arsenal. I was under the impression they’ve been making a loss in recent years, and that their owner is tight and uninterested. But after covid and another year of no CL football they’re spending big.

Their owner is stinking rich and has apparently responded to the protests that happened after the big 6 malarkey.

I see Ntcham has left Celtic on a free, think we were linked quite heavily in January

This is such a no brainer move for me. Think he is incredibly talented. Liked him every time I've seen him for Celtic. Still just 25 too.

Transfer related, it's a good piece in The Athletic about how our budget works. It's not fixed and it's pretty much case-by-case.

"as things stand, multiple sources expect there will only be sufficient funds to make two loan signings and one permanent addition this window as Bruce targets a left centre-back, a defensive midfielder and a No 8."

"For a start, they do not have a fixed, predetermined “budget” per se. They do identify a portion of their revenue to be set aside for incomings — previously, it has been the amount remaining once operating costs are subtracted from turnover, supplemented by player sales — but that figure is flexible and can potentially be increased (or indeed squeezed) depending on which targets prove attainable."

"The hierarchy are unlikely to permit the signing of two 27-year-olds for £10 million each but, should Arsenal prove willing to sell Willock for around £20 million, then Newcastle may consider exhausting their resources to secure his signature."

"Under Ashley, the three major principles that have driven Newcastle’s transfer approach have included age (24 and under), potential sell-on value and quality. Unless those strict criteria were met, then substantial fees would not be spent on players — but, if they were, then Newcastle were willing to stretch to greater lengths to finance a deal they believed to be an attractive one."

"What Benitez wanted was to be told you have “£x million” and you can spend it how you see fit, be that by acquiring one player or five. Yet Newcastle told him to treat every deal individually and they would consider each target on their merits. They did not want Benitez to be fixated on a set kitty because, in theory, they may reject a request for three £5 million players, but may then permit a £25 million acquisition for the “right player”."

"Newcastle would not have spent £15 million on just anyone, but Lewis was 22 and being tracked by some of England’s top clubs, primarily Liverpool, which suggested genuine sell-on potential. In effect, Lewis was signed outside of Newcastle’s actual “budget” because he was deemed to be a prospect worth extending their resources for."

"The Norwich winger was hardly a priority target for Benitez but, because he was 22, available for an initial £10 million and deemed likely to appreciate in value, Newcastle were keen to acquire him and so the manager brought him in, in part, because it was a deal he was able to conclude." (Murphy)

"The owner was annoyed that Benitez did not permit the purchase in February 2019 and feared the club had missed the chance to sign the 22-year-old Brazilian, even claiming he offered to personally “pay” £23 million towards the fee. Benitez, though, wanted the soon-to-be 29-year-old, Salomon Rondon, instead. The Venezuelan impressively led the line, scoring 11 top-flight goals on loan on Tyneside, but his age (and admittedly high wage demands) meant Newcastle would not pursue a permanent move."

“It wasn’t even as if it was him (Joelinton) or Salomon Rondon,” Ashley told the Daily Mail in July 2019. “And we told him (Benitez) that. We just wanted Joelinton secured."

This transfer approach at least has some reasoning to it and could be somewhat feasible with a younger up to date manager that is big on player development. Why can't these morons identify such a person for goodness sake?!

Every single manager that has been brought in has been inappropriate for this approach to recruitment. So bloody infuriating man.

I would much rather keep Jack, even if the price is £100m. Jsut because of the symbolism of it.

However, I concede, that's a fucking huge amount of money and could be transformative on top of what we've already spent of late.

One thing we saw last year was that when he was out injured, we really suffered, and I think the signings so far this close season are aimed very much at being less reliant on him. Buendia and Bailey suggest a requirement for creativity, certainly, and I think Buendia in particular looks like an incredible prospect.

My only comment on Grealish is that he is absolutely brilliant, and will become more brilliant, but he's prone to long injury lay offs, so perhaps spending that money a bit cleverly would spread that reliance and mitigate the potential chaos caused by a single injury.

Ultimately, if he goes, it will because he wants to guarantee champions league football and medals and we're just going to have to accept it. What I absolutely do know though is, the owners will have pulled out all the stops to attempt to get him to stay.

I think if these top clubs come for other clubs players then as long as you make sure you rinse them for a big fee then it's somewhat fair enough IMO.

£100 million spent well really should make Villa a better team than they were last year and so really this should be a way to make up ground on those teams. It's all about ensuring the money is used wisely and therein lies the problem a lot of the time.

Really like what Villa are doing with their money so far this summer already though and I think it is very likely they will be better next season than they were this one past even with Grealish in the team.

If true about ASM, 50m valuation is a total joke,I think minimum 80m, he's in a very long contract and going off Joelinton being 40m it makes no sense.

I'd actually be pissed at Rafa for going after our best player tbh.

Think £50 million is fair value for ASM, however if we were a team that played better football and put him in dangerous positions more often we would definitely be able to command more for him as he would have more goals and assists, so that has been a clear failing by the club.

Regarding Rafa going for him. He should absolutely do so if he can. Sick of watching ASM bail out our bloody mess of a manager. I want to see Bruce get wht he deserves thanks. If he's anyway decent let him figure out who to get in and get the best out of. He's a clown.

Instinctively, I'm happy he's leaving because Villa are doing my head in.

But what if that £100m goes towards Willock or ASM? :weep:

I hope you get over Villa doing your head in because it's going to get a lot worse, especially if Grealish leaves.

Looks like they will be bringing in a number of players with the money. Been linked with Ward-Prowse and Cantwell and could see them adding both and likely others.

What a pile of crap Muto turned out to be. Just one of the many under Ashley’s ownership.

The whole thing was just weird, because he ended up playing so little, and on the occasions he did I never thought he was terrible and always wanted to see more of him. Oh well. Just a bizarre situation.
