  1. He needs a primitive version of Stephen Hawking's voice box.
  2. Come on, man. He gets knocked off the ball like a rag doll, it's an issue of size and exertion. And you can't argue for a second that his stamina isn't lacking, he just needs to work on it. I haven't singled Guthrie out, Colo is another one who needs to adapt his physical form, as is Nolan, clearly. With Guthrie, it's a case of a very talented footballer being significantly restricted by something fairly simple to improve upon. Has there ever been a genuinely successful central midfielder in the history of the PL who couldn't impose himself physically? Doubtful.
  3. Messi is the best footballer in the world with very good athleticism and strength for his size, why on earth would he need to bulk up? Guthrie is a very capable footballer who'll never hit his true potential if he can't last 90 minutes or hold someone off the ball. Something needs to change or he'll amount to very little in top level football.
  4. This coming from someone with a 2007 Michael Owen in his avatar.
  5. Training people for something they are not naturally built for and neglecting their strengths is asking to be raped! f***ing going on about Guthries weaknesses for months man. All this we must bulk up, you work for Holland & Barrett or something? You sound very impssive going on about hypertrophy etc but its all bollocks like Kezman asked, I answered. Kevin Nolan needs to lose weight, Coloccini and Guthrie need to gain a little, it's not rocket science. If you can't see that Danny Guthrie as a CM doesn't need to improve his physical strength/presence, you either don't go to the games or you're just attempting to initiate another daft arguement. Nobody is asking for footballing strengths to be neglected. But blatant physical weaknesses need to be worked on, which is what athletes from every other sport do, no reason for it to be omitted from football.
  6. Aye, he's capable with the ball at his feet, but that's a requesite in Spain and Italy. He's a CB, pure and simple.
  7. Lua Lua is another one who should be nowhere near a PL squad.
  8. Nobody has been discussing your rumours, Pedro.
  9. Especially seeing as we didn't retain Fitzy. I knew that was coming, thought it would be Cajun, like.
  10. That's what makes the PL great, though, a combination of ability and athleticism. But it's certainly gone too far in the last few years, thanks in no small part to a certain couple of managers.
  11. Krul obviously has the better agility. It's a shame he hasn't spent the last few seasons out on loan, there's no substitute for experience and his judgement is the only thing standing in the way of a No.1 jersey.
  12. I read an interview with Colo a few months back in which he said he was using the gym after training to lift weights and had gained 5 kilos or so because of it. Perhaps the club have implemented personally-tailored training, or he could he have just decided himself that he needed to do it. Either way, Guthrie (and a few others) should be involved in the same thing. A 'one size' approach suits nobody.
  13. Laughable that a certain poster on here called James a 'very good' goalkeeper. Laughable that Rob Green was your number 1 choice England goalkeeper. Not really, he's better (and had a better season) than James and more experienced than Hart. In retrospect, young Joe should have got the nod, but no choice from the 3 could be considered laughable. Contradicted yourself a bit there. Not in the slightest, read it again. Or look up the word 'retrospect.'
  14. No, not defintely. Guthrie on the other hand defintely isn't. I'd be interested to see how you would use Guthrie, and would you adapt his training at all? He needs to be put on a weight-training program designed for strength and hypertrophy. His natural fitness is also poor so he needs to be working a tad harder than the average footballer on his cardiovascular endurance. Interval training such as sprints would probably be most appropriate.
  15. No, not defintely. Guthrie on the other hand defintely isn't. He's a much better bet than Smith, but I don't want to see him starting regularly.
  16. Barton and Gosling are more box-to-box dynamic than creative in the traditional sense. Guthrie just doesn't have enough about him physically to be relied upon in the PL.
  17. We need to get someone in the midfield to partner Barton if we plan to play 4-4-1-1. Guthrie won't cut it.
  18. They're in big trouble if they lose Adam, or if they keep him actually.
