Dave, would you have complimented the club if they had identified their top targets early on and got them in pronto? Just imagine we´d have signed Modric and Gomis (or any two scouted players we considered to be absolute improvements on our current lot and probably attainable to a club of our standing) for a combined 30 million as opposed to now, would you have been happy we had done our scouting, identified our targets and pulled out all the stops to get them in? I know I would have, and I fail to see how wondering what went wrong (again, remember January or the last summer window?) is whinging for f*** all. You and others can trot this line every transfer window as long as you want, but I don´t think you can claim we have been overly succesful in finding and contracting our targets these past few windows, and so far there is no reason to assume this one will be any different, besides blind faith in a new setup that is already a little shakey by the look of things that went on after the Chelsea match.. I'd have been astonished had we signed the players we want already. Keegan's on holiday for f***'s sake. I was very pleased with the transfer dealings last summer (at the time), even though I wasn't sure on Smith. As were many others. And we signed the best two players of those with about three minutes of the window left. Wait until the window closes. If we've not done what we need to, moan then. I know I will. that gets said every year and I agree with it but we aren't going to do better than Dunne, realistically
-
doesn't matter how the other targets work out, Dunne should be our player, he's perfect for us. A very good CB and we shouldn't be losing out to clubs in shiteholes like Portsmouth
-
well would you rather have Campbell and Distin or Taylor and Faye? Carrick and Santa Cruz or Butt and Viduka?
-
No he f***ing isn't. see how would you know? judging on past comments I'd pretty much put my life on you never watching an epl game we cant keep losing out on players like this. Campbell, Distin, Santa Cruz, Ben haim, Carrick, Dunne, these are players that should be playing for us but we missed the boat through indecision, bad negotiating or ridiculous overrating of our current squad and a lack of hindsight. same old story, f***ing sick of it. FYP. where does hindsight come in though, all very good players when we had the chance to sign them and all well within reach
-
in the right formation Emre would have been a godsend. Shame, a fit Emre is preferable over Butt, Barton and Geremi anyday

since when does a muscular build make someone overweight? fucking idiots on this forum honestly He's ten times the player Taylor or Faye is
-
i'm no John Terry fan but this open letter is no worse than Taylor licking the arse of every nufc fan every other week. At least Terry isn't an embarrassment week in week out
-
Owen = pacey compared to the average striker bollocks, Owen is quick off the mark at times, but that isn't pace, look the word up Rather sell Owen and Viduka for a combined £100,000 than sell Martins, don't people realise how easy we'd be to play against without him
-
jesus man, the shit you talk at exactly the same age Robert costs us £10m. When you take risks, especially with pacey, geniunely talented players, they sometimes pay off
-
name the player then, idiot. indeed, looking forward to the response to this
-
have people forgotten the euro 2004 and the world cup qualifiers, Lampard was amazing for England
-
soul destroying tbh fuck Man u and their saturday afternoon fans, the real scum of football
-
jesus, Dawson man Taylor's no better mind, rid asap
-
I've never wanted a team (apart from us) to win a game so badly come on Avram! Sheva for the winner
-
alongside Shearer he was s****, awful, awful partnership
-
those who want Man u to win ANY game really dont understand football. Whinge on about Giggs and Scholes all you want, it's the supporters that define the club and Man u have about 100 Million cunts behind them tomorrow, fuck them come on Chelsea
-
Roeder didn't play Boumsong tbf, and the couple of times that he did were nowt short of disasterous, Liverpool (h) 06 it was generally Moore in the middle with Bramble to be honest
-
I wanted us to get Smith and was happy when we signed him, no bias against him whatsoever literally the worst player i've ever seen for us in terms of basically not doing anything close to what he's there for, dogshite
-
Faye is nowhere near 6'2" in fairness

This is key. For cavalier-like shot-stoppers/blockers, and this is what Given brings to the table, who basically put their bodies on the line - and often they'll pull off an unconventional save in doing so, where they'll put themselves in a dangerous situation - confidence is everything. If Given's unable regain the confidence you speak of, the answer is simple.................... phase him out, with Harper as the worthy replacement for now because on form it's his spot to lose, and infuse the team with fresh blood while rebuilding the position's depth accordingly, as opposed to placing a reliance on Given's fitness & health and more importantly his on-field state of mind . you know, i'm not even sure i'd agree with that Given's bravery has always been in doubt for me. 2 goals at Bolton in late 2004 anyone? load of bollocks. rooted to his line, leaving the sweeping up to his (often hapless) defenders

I'm happy, but if we got an offer for Given now it would be worth considering. However the best of Given is yet to come, his peak is a couple of seasons away, but he does need focus on the areas he lacks in, if he does he'll be the best keeper in the league when he reaches that peak. He's had enough GK coaches now though, it seems his faults are permanent. You say that but if this season is anything to go by he's past his peak. I'm willing to see what he can do etc. when he's fully recovered but he's never looked the same since that clash with the ex-West Ham fella. David James at his age having his best spell for me suggests there could be a lot more to come from Given. James has bigger faults than Given at his age, concentration crippling his credibility as a top keeper, he sorted it in the end. I can see Robinson taking the same path as James and later in his career becoming a top keeper, i just hope Given does the same. Its taking all this time for Harper to show he's good enough for a 1st team place. Given's reflexes are slowing with age, he's not going to get any better yeah, because he's 50 now.. wake the f*** up people, even Cech, Button and Cassillas have had s**** seasons. some of you are very quick to write off 10 seasons of brilliant performances.. Cech hasn't had a s*** season Cassillas is world class, is younger than Given and Button is a racing driver so I dont see how that matters Cech has made bigger errors than Given this season, Casillas had some shocking games in the last couple of seasons - although he's been immaculate this term and Buffon has struggled with an injury for a while now.. bottom line is keepers' form is temporary, class is permanent.. btw, still think Duff is world class? No, and Given never was, whats your point? my point is that your criteria (is this a word?) is f***** up pal, Given's been either awful or unfit for the last 2 seasons, and his main attributes for me (agility, reflexes) are on the wain. He doesn't have massive physical presence (schmeichal, James) or leadership/organisation skills (Seaman, Schmeichal, Pagliuca) to fall back on he's had it
