  1. We were still possible relegation candidates before tonight... not much has changed except we now have a weaker squad. I'd say our chances of relegation have gone up from about 15% to nearer 30%. I still think we'll have enough to stay up, but it'll be a lot more painful than it would have been. We never win away at Fulham anyway.

He'll have to seriously consider going for 4-5-1 now Shola is out IMO. Playing Nolan and Guthrie in CM is like playing with 10 men, playing with Best and Lovenkrands up front is like playing with 8.
  3. This is why I shouldn't log on straight after games, everything is extreme after a defeat (and a shit performance). I still always do mind! The worst thing is we'll now get well beaten by Arsenal (which we would have done anyway) and the sky will be falling in by Saturday night.
  4. We missed Tiote and Ben Arfa much more than Carroll tonight TBH. Obviously he's a very good player who might have turned a few of our stupid forward passes into decent opportunities, but I don't think this defeat was about not having Judas Carroll in the team.
  5. Well obviously I have no idea whether that's true or not. All I'm saying is that right now £35m for him was a big gamble by Liverpool, and it's not the size of the fee we should be worrying about.
  6. We deserved a point up until the goal, Fulham were almost as bad as us. The non-response in the second half was worrying though, if anything we got even worse.

Yeah definitely, I still have no idea how we thought we could get away with bringing nobody in. We should have been planning that whether or not Carroll was being sold, that's the thing that makes it hard to understand.
  8. I think in selling Andy Carroll for £35m, the £35m isn't the bad bit.
  9. I was at the match as well, and obviously it was dire. The only thing that makes me worry slightly less is that this performance isn't part of a trend, we've played as bad as this before and bounced straight back. The injury to Ameobi is a minor disaster, but hopefully he won't be out too long. Even with him we were struggling up front, it's the failure to buy or loan anyone that's the real worry.

Have a look at a Southampton forum, I did and a large number of posters made the same comments. Serious question, what could Pardew have done tonight? His bench option was Ranger who was forced on right at the start. Lovenkrands is useless almost all the time... that's it. I know we played really badly and I'm not sure why, but I've no idea what the plan B should have been.
  11. This loan is a fucking mystery like, he wasn't even doing that badly when he was brought on. Maybe we just wanked ourselves dry over the idea that Barton was an undiscovered David Beckham and we'd never need another right midfielder ever ever ever.

I pretty much agree, but most of that is down to the absolute shite squad he has at his disposal. How much he's to blame for our lack of signings I have no idea.

The two performances before this were pretty good. But for two massively late goals we could have another 4 points on the board and not be worrying so much. Still far too early to make any judgements of Pardew's time here really.
  14. Without Shola our strikeforce makes me cry. With him it makes me sob a little bit. We should just fuck it off and play 4-5-1 with another body to boost the midfield. Our only threat at the moment is from set pieces, so we would lose very little.
  15. A number of players who we should have been in for played well or scored tonight. No idea why we didn't even make a couple of loan signings like Kakuta or Sturridge or Keane. It's madness.
  16. I believe this as well, but he scores a few goals so he gets let off with being otherwise double wank and shit chips. His leadership qualities are good TBF, and he has probably helped bond a squad through a period where it would otherwise have fallen apart.

I'm just going on his decisions since he's been here. Hindsight seems to be his outstanding quality so far. Haven't we done well and climbed the table since he arrived?
  18. He wouldn't have had a good game today, except he might have turned one of our aimless forward punts into a half chance.

I work with a few mackems, they laughed when we brought him here. Funnily enough both of my mackem mates said he was a good choice. Anyway, my point was just that he seems to be quite well respected in football.
  20. There's nothing the fans can do, at least nothing that they realistically will do. You could have an assault course filled with deadly animals surrounding St James' Park and at least 35,000 people would make it in. We love the club and going to the match too much to give it up because of Ashley.

Spoke to any Charlton fans? Actually, probably not!
  22. Oh yeah, Tiote and an in-form Ireland along with Ben Arfa and we'd have won this game by 2 or 3. Carroll or no Carroll. Barton also had a rank game as well, had no discipline and provided nothing in the RM position. It's games when he goes wandering like this that you wonder whether playing him right is such a good idea. Again, I know we have no other options now.

Everyone I've asked who isn't a Newcastle fan thinks that Pardew is a pretty good manager. And that includes a West Ham fan.
  24. Guthrie made a few positive moves, but generally he was appalling. He put a million passes astray, was muscled off the ball a number of times, and like Nolan spends most of the time in defence holding both hands up and dangling a leg out as players glide past him. A midfield of Guthrie and Nolan is just asking for trouble. I know we didn't have many other options TBF.
  25. Guthrie was hilariously bad, Williamson was shite, Nolan was anonymous, Best was a spectator and Ranger was like a human pinball cushion. Not sure why Enrique didn't deal with the ball for Duff's goal. Terrible performance, we just didn't have a plan in attack at all. Fulham were really bad as well, especially in the first half. MOTD flattered them massively. Without Ameobi we are fucked, we needed one forward at least, now we need three.
