They like to come across as being completely in charge, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if a lot of them have a whole range of restrictions on them. After all, the manager isn't the head of the football club, he's part of the structure. (Disclaimer: obviously when the club is so successful that you can afford to spend almost anything and never need to sell, the manager's position is a lot stronger. e.g. Fergie)

To be fair we don't know exactly when the contact was made between Bassong and the club, or who had the idea, or who gave the go ahead. Doesn't matter anyway, NUFC is what matters and they made a great signing.

There's a big difference between a 'yes man' and a manager who is mature and professional enough to know he's not king of the world and needs to work within a club's structure.
