Sounds like it's either a passport issue (but then he could get that done at the Ivory Coast embassy in the USA) or some sort of work visa issue which requires him to go home and consult the embassy there. I know with a lot of work visas you have to sort it out at the UK embassy in your home country..

A lot of players usually ask to see their favored doctors when facing a possibly serious injury. They are the ones most familiar with the player's medical history anyway, so it's not a daft petition. Logical assumption, and probably accurate. Especially if a lot of the medical staff have traveled with the first team and the reserves?
