We've made tons of money by selling academy products in recent years. Grealish 100 everyone knows about but then also Chukwuemeka 20, Kellyman 19, Iroegbunam 9, Archer 19 (and then again the year after), Aaron Ramsey 15m. Just read we have the 4th most proftable academy in England, and the 19th in the world. It makes a massive difference - even Man City who seem immune to financial concerns understand how important it is, and do it.

Two years ago tomorrow we were demolished at Fulham and one of our owners was so livid he sacked Carpet Head before he got on the team bus home. Fucking mental how things have changed since then. Emery is absolutely top quality but it’s more than that, it is what the owners have done in five years in terms of not just money but putting in place a structure throughout the club which works. Gerrard was a blip on an upward trajectory but they also fixed the things that went wrong (mostly Purslow) and ended in such a shit appointment in the first place. It’s never an easy way back from a decade of being laughably shit, including an owner who just got bored and then sold us to a con man currently in prison in China, but I dunno, I do feel we had to hit rock bottom before things got better.
