What has happened to the proposed statue of Alan Shearer? I got the impression that it wasn't going to be long after he retired that it would be finished and unveiled. There was a lot of talk about placing it and Milburn's statue in front of the ground and then nothing.

With all the negative stuff written about footballers, I just thought I'd point out this story about Newcastle players doing something good by visiting children in hospital: - Chronicle NUFC.co.uk

Chelsea (Carling Cup) - Pre-match thread
LoveItIfWeBeatU replied to Newcastle Fan's topic in Football
i think he did it before and i think roeder just defended him today!!,saying that he saw chelsea players leave the stadium when they were not selected for the newcastle game.. That's right it is the 2nd time he's done it. Maybe that was his last chance. Where has Roeder defended him today? Even if he has, it just shows Roeder isn't an idiot like Souness. Souness slagged off players in the press who he wanted to sell therefore reducing the price. PS Who are you going to bang on about for the rest of the season if Luque is sold/loaned out in the transfer window? -
Chelsea (Carling Cup) - Pre-match thread
LoveItIfWeBeatU replied to Newcastle Fan's topic in Football
The fact that Luque stormed off in the huff at the weekend means he's unlikely to appear on the bench again never mind the first 11. As for Chelsea resting players, Jose Mourinho told reporters that Andriy Shevchenko would start at SJP on Wednesday. -
Martins natural left or right ? (Roeder talks about this)
LoveItIfWeBeatU replied to Skirge's topic in Football
Roeder said last week that Oba is left footed but is also good with his right. So in a nutshell, he's two footed but the left is the stronger of the two. -

Who Will Become Our Next Great Home Produced Defender
LoveItIfWeBeatU replied to Delima's topic in Football
Some people seem to judge Ramage on his performances when played out of position. Taylor gave away a dangerous free kick against Chelsea (which the ref wrongly booked Ramage for). Taylor and Ramage are both local lads. Personally I hope they all make it to a high standard as it would save the club a fortune. I saw posts from Chelsea fans praising Taylor's performance and suggesting he would be a good buy for Chelsea. I would imagine Taylor would rather stay at Newcastle because it means something to him to wear the black and white. -
All 3 teams are above us, and we was lucky to beat Reading and that was it. F***ing hell, some fans are never happy.... Those teams are infront of us because we are piss poor! I'm not saying that we don't deserve to be were we are, we do. I am as delighted as anyone at the results, but not the performence, we have played this bad all season, the ONLY difference is we had Given who saved are ass in all those games (maybe not Portsmouth). Reading were by far the better team against us FACT, and 10 man Blackburn out played us! How can anyone be happy with that? If we had played the way we have in those games, and not won, we would be looking at this in a whole different view. the truth hurts!!! The sign of a good team is playing badly and winning.
-
I know that no game is easy, thats why I called it the "so called easy games" But these are the games we should win, I would not go home happy if we didn't get the 3 points from teams of this calibre. I also now that they are performing well at the moment, but can you see teams like Portsmouth or Reading in the top 6 at the end of the season? 3 points against teams like Blackburn, Reading, Portsmouth, West Ham, Charlton... and so on are teams I expect us to beat. Yes but if Chelsea, Man U, etc had the number of injuries we have to their first team squad they wouldn't find it easy so the wins are impressive because of that.

Probably because Shearer is one of the greatest players to have ever played the game whereas Ameobi is dog wank. Surely the point is that everyone knows that Shearer was one of the best ever so to expect Ameobi to take every chance that Shearer would probably have taken is stupid.
-
Is it just at NUFC where about a third of the squad are hated by a vocal section of the so called 'supporters' or does it happen at other clubs? I'm not saying all our players are world beaters but I don't see how abusing the likes of Bramble, Shola, Babayaro, Carr, Dyer, Parker, Ramage, etc is ever going to help our cause. There is often a lot of bias with who gets the abuse. Shearer missed a chance and the crowd clapped the effort. Shola misses a chance and the crowd groan. The same for Taylor making a mistake compared to Bramble.

Roder said something like "Oba has a powerful left foot. He's also good on his Right" in an interview after the match. It may be the video on the BBC match report.

Yes, he accidentally wrapped his arm around "the Nigerian" players legs as he fell on him. They keep going on about the fact that Martins was 40 yards from goal but as everyone knows Martins is one of the fastest players there is and nobody else could have caught him so it was a clear goal scoring chance denied. -

Mark Hughes has made himself look really stupid with all his moaning, especially about our 'Off side' goals: - From The Sun Hughes said: "For the first goal, when the ball was played forward, Martins was offside. "The second was even more offside because if you look at it again Taylor is standing in an offside position when the ball goes out wide and is crossed into the box. "It breaks to him and he scores the goal, so surely he is interfering with play. You cannot get more interfering than by scoring a goal. "I had a chat with referees' chief Keith Hackett for a couple of hours this week. "He was explaining the first phase, second phase rule to me, and if I am right then Taylor was offside." Hughes said: "I need to be careful because every time I question these big decisions that go against us I get a letter from the Football Association. "My interpretation of the sending-off is that Stephane made a good challenge in the air, and headed the ball away and has then come down on the back of the Nigerian player's legs. "If you are harsh you would argue that it was foul. It would be too hard for a yellow card. "But for the referee to view that as a sending-off offence, he would have to sit down with me and explain his interpretation because it is at odds with my own. "The ball was running through to Brad Friedel. He was the favourite, so in no way was that a goal-scoring opportunity. I have no idea why it was viewed that way." And asked if he would appeal Hughes replied: "Yes, absolutely. I will talk to my chairman but I am sure we will." -
Not after Shearer agreed with Hughes they won't.

True, we have the worst defence in the league (trademark on that 'fact' owned by Mark Lawrenson - he thinks if he keeps saying it it will come true) even though they are currently the 9th best defence which isn't bad considering we rarely get the chance to field the same back 4 (or 5 if you count keepers this season) to work on partnerships.
-
He sounds a lot like Mark Lawrenson. I get the impression that most of the TV media would love to see us relegated. Whenever I watch a game on Sky, it doesn't matter who we're playing, we always seem to be the 'baddies' to the commentators. Their voice goes up in pitch when the other team attacks, every tackle we make is a foul, every goal we score shouldn't have been give, etc. They always come out with lines like "they need the points" when talking about our opponent like we don't need the points! Persecution complex? It's not crazy when you're right!

According to The Observer "Emre was carried off after what appeared to be an innocuous challenge by Pedersen". Innocuous? Ironically it would appear that the 'Observer' is blind. There looked to be plenty of intent. -
Well if he's fit he'll be back against Chelsea after what happened to Emre today. As usual for NUFC, for every player we have coming back from injury it's at least two going out with injury.
-
It's true the crowd do tend to shit themselves when Shola steps up to take a penalty but I'm pretty sure he's scored all the one's he's taken during the normal 90 minutes (I'm not sure about shoot outs though). Well done Martins. Looks like my thread turned out to be a lucky omen "Not that we ever get any these days but if we were awarded a penalty who would take it"!
-
I don't disagree with you. The fact that Emre keeps getting to take most of the free kicks makes you think nobody else has the authority to say "you've had your chance, it's my turn now".
-
We have quite a few free kick 'specialists' in N'Zogbia, Solano, Emre, Milner and (cough) Luque. Being good at free kicks doesn't always seem to translate into taking good penalties though for some reason. I've never seen Martins hit a dead ball so it's hard to say how good he is at it.
-
Not that we ever get any these days but if we were awarded a penalty who would take it? Ameobi seemed to be the one who took them since Shearer retired but he's out for the season now so who's next in line? Solano has been known to take them. Dyer has also taken a couple. We haven't really got anyone who can blast the ball (and keep it on target) anymore apart from maybe N'Zogbia. Who do you think it should be?

I am currently studying for my Doctrate in Physics. Nothing against Shearer, but I disagree with the total concept of honourary degrees. People like myself and many others graft their arses off schooling for years and years whilst these guys become world superstars, then when they finish they get a degree or doctrate for doing bot all. Poor. I was joking about the Physics degree. As others have said it is an Honorary degree. It's not like he could go and get a job with it (not that he needs to). Honorary is a nice way of saying 'pretend'. Honorary degrees are just something Universities dish out to famous people to get some free publicity for themselves.
