  1. Phil Thompson makes Mark Lawrenson look impartial. That and he's an arsehole. He cried when Owen came to us.
  2. Why argue about the penalty? We won because of it. I couldn't care less if it should have been given or not, the fact is it was and Solano scored from it. That'll do me. It will be interesting to see Shearer versus Hansen and Lawrenson on Match of the Day. You can bet the highlights will be edited to show how Liverpool were 'robbed'. Hopefully Shearer will stop being so diplomatic and will have a big grin on his face.
  3. Martin Jol has spent loads and has a massive squad compared to ours yet Tottenham are level on points with us (with a game in hand). They were supposed to be going for top 4 this season. Compare Roeder's record to Martin Jol's and then consider all the injuries we've got/had.
  4. The African Cup of Nations is in 2008. I don't know when the qualifiers start but I can imagine Oba will miss quite a few games because of it.
  5. Last comments I read from Woodgate was that his loan gave him the chance to play for his home town club once in his career. He never made it sound like he was thinking of making it a long term move. He wants Champions League football and if he stays injury free I'm sure one of the top clubs will be after him.
  6. I see Neil Farrington has taken the gloves off and is telling it like it is. From his match report in the Sunday Sun on ICNewcastle: - "Steve Carr, who should not be in the side at right-back let alone filling in on the opposite flank, invited Brian McBride to put Fulham home and dry 17 minutes from time. Titus Bramble's enduring ability to ruin a decent display with a single aberration should have earned him a red card moments earlier."
  7. When is Emre's case at the FA being heard? I know Emre had until the end of January to respond but now what? Duff should get match fit in the reserves. He can play one half and Luque can play the other.
  8. Nolberto Solano - He's our best Right Back and a back up to Milner for the Right Wing. Renew his contract for a year, maybe two. Craig Moore - He's always out with long term injuries. Don't renew his contract. Titus Bramble - Offer him a one year contract on reduced terms. If he stays and still keeps making costly mistakes sell him next January. Antoine Sibierski - There is no room for sentiment. He's done a hell of a lot better than expected but surely we can get better in the Summer transfer window. Only renew his contract if he is dirt cheap or we can't get a better replacement. Pavel Srnicek - Emergency stop gap who isn't up to the standard required. Don't renew his contract. David Edgar - He has potential. Offer him a 2 year contract. Send him out on loan to the Championship or a newly promoted Premiership team for a season (assuming we have cover). Olivier Bernard - Been injured or unfit ever since he returned to NUFC. Don't renew his contract. Sell Carr and Luque to anyone who'll take them.
  9. I would be stunned if Moore got offered a new contract. He's done quite well when fit but he must have missed at least 60%+ of the games since joining NUFC by being injured with hamstring problems. He wasn't nick named Moorcelino for nothing. Tal Ben Haim would be well worth going after in the Summer. Hopefully Chelsea will be after more expensive alternatives by the Summer.
  10. I once asked a Middlesbrough fan at work why they were known as the Boro when it is spelt Middlesbrough. He had no idea.
  11. He should tell his son that he can't go to the Emirates until he can pay for his own ticket and travel expenses. What would happen if Arsenal scored and there is his son cheering among all the Newcastle fans? Young kids don't have local pride and so where they come from doesn't mean much to them. They will get that when they get older. Everyone (especially children) want to be associated with winners.
  12. I can't understand Gary Neville's decision to grow and keep a feeble excuse for a moustache on his face but you don't hear me going on about it. I'd rather score goals against Man U than for them.
  13. I see they didn't bother to mention Craig Bellamy on the list of Footballers he's fixed. Hopefully we won't need to send anymore players to him in the future! He must have had a fortune off NUFC (who I assume pay for the operations) for operating on Shearer, Bellamy and Owen.
  14. I don't understand the argument about not buying players because of uncertainty over the ownership of the club. If we spend £20million on players and then got taken over how does that change anything? It's not as if the present owners will have used their own money to buy the players and the new owners will know that the £20million has been spent. It's looking increasingly likely that the best we will get in this transfer window is a couple of loans probably signed at 23.59 on 31/01/07.
  15. Anyone who likes him obviously didn't see him on Sky at half time for the Tottenham V Newcastle game. He was so biased even Richard Keys was shocked!
  16. The majority of managers give politician style answers. They don't want to commit to something that might not happen. Most managers also try to apply pressure to the board by saying things like "I'm trying to sign two players but I don't know if we have enough money" shifting the focus onto the 'tight fisted' board.
  17. Sibierski was given a 1 season contract and his wages will be nothing compared to Campbell. I understand that Sibierski will be offered another year but I don't know if he's been given it yet. Don't forget Campbell had gone 'a bit mad' in his last days at Arsenal and had been injured a lot. Personally I'd have signed Campbell but it's always easy with hindsight anyway. Don't get me wrong, I know we need new players. I'm just trying to offer the other side to the argument.
  18. Considering he is our only fit first team striker there is no way NUFC would sell him.
  19. tmonkey, I agree with some of your points (I don't think Roeder is perfect) but to be fair to him he only signed Sibierski on a short term deal. Campbell, Lauren, etc will have probably wanted at least 2 year contracts on big wages. There was a question mark over Campbell's fitness. With the benefit of hindsight we should have got him but if he'd been signed as a crock Roeder would have got the blame. We wanted Woodgate but he turned us down so he could play for his home town club for at least a season in his career. As for trying to sign Huth on the last day, if the papers are to be believed (and people pick and choose what they believe to suit their argument) Huth was Roeder's number one choice but Shepherd waited until the last minute. Anyway, most deals happen on the last couple of days of the transfer window. We may yet bring some players in. Ferguson was in the papers yesterday saying he was hitting a brick wall with the players he wants to sign. It's not always as easy as picking a player.
  20. Money is a pulling power. So is playing in the first team every week. Souness managed to get Owen here! What does that say about pulling power? Who would we replace Roeder with anyway? Ottmar Hitzfeld? I'm sure he'd die for the chance to manage us. : Roeder is still working on repairing NUFC after Souness. I can see why NUFC struggle to attract players and top managers. Some fans hate half the team (Bramble, Ameobi, etc) and want the manager sacked if we don't go from a relegation fight to champions league in a season. But the fact is he will never, get us fighting for top four with his tactics and I think the West Ham game showed that, after they got the second goal the TV cameras zoomed on his face and the look said it all, "I just don't have clue what to do next", I'm afraid he doe's not inspire me with faith. He must have said something to the team at half time because they came out fighting. It's an excuse but I think our team will be tired compared to most because more or less the same players have been playing every game for weeks. I never said Roeder was the man to get us back into the top 4. What I said was he is steadying the ship. Like I said, it's not as if we needed a shity stick to stop the top managers applying for the NUFC job. Having said that, I think if Owen had been fit this season we'd have easily been top 8 if not top 6. Check the table. We're only 7 points off 6th (and 10 points off 18th). We aren't half as an attractive prospect to managers as we once were. The famous crowd has turned into a crowd that doesn't live up to the hype anymore and are just as likely to turn on the team as support them. Souness pissed away our money (with Shepherd's backing). It doesn't exactly scream "come here".

  22. Agree. "Shola is a fans favorite" Glenn obviously doesn't read NUFC forums. Shola gets a very rough ride off a large number of the fanbase. They always forget his good points e.g. having a 1 in 2 goal scoring ratio under Roeder and concentrate on the bad. Personally I think a fit Ameobi, Owen, Martins and another striker is a decent strikeforce.
  23. Martins and Duff came to the club with those players knowing Roeder was in charge.
  24. Carroll pulled off some 'top drawer' saves to deny Martins. I do think Martins would probably have scored one in particular if he had placed his shot instead of blasting it off target after doing all the hard work. I like Martins but am begining to wonder if he can ever 'tap' the ball.
  25. There is no way Newcastle will offer him a new contract for the simple reason that when he's injured you're lucky if you see him again for half a season.
