Caulkin said he'd been told the jose move would only go through if the pieters deal was going through too. We'll see

To be honest, as long as we get this lad in before the game after arsenal, I'm not too fussed. We'll just have to wing it in our opening game.
  3. Aye but when we're flirting with the champions league places midway through next season, who cares?

  7. I've been jizzing over wor jose for a long time now. Thing is, we're going to be pretty surprised when Pieters turns out to be an even BETTER player. Oh yes.

The key to success is to generally buy tall players
  9. the league started befoer 1992. the rest of our history doesn't count seriously though, who could challenge him? beresford couldn't, bernard neither, I don't know of anyone that'd hold a candle to him.

Sammy Ameobi can do a job there. Sorted.
  11. Jose is our best ever left back. We don't have the ambition to match his, it's a straight-forward as that really.
  12. christ he looks like a quality player, just can't see us splashing the cash though..
  13. I'm not that fussed about it. He's a great left back who I'm surprised has stayed with us for so long. It's been on the cards for a long time now so I've wanted it over and done with. Thing that annoys me, apart from his chosen destination, is that the contract we offered was basically the same. That's just insane when you think about it. Toodle pip and thanks Jose, I'd wish you well if you weren't going to the scousers.

  15. While Gabriel Obertan was completing the formalities of his transfer at Darsley Park on Monday, yet another French- speaking player was attempting to earn a deal with United in a training ground reserve friendly. The as-yet un-named forward played 45 minutes, netting once in what was an 8-2 romp over a less experienced smoggy XI. Also on the scoresheet were Phil Airey (2), Sam Ameobi (2), Nile Ranger, Jeff Henderson and an OG.

  18. Comments (6) Recommend Gabriel Obertan GABRIEL OBERTAN has vowed to prove his doubters wrong ahead of his big move to Newcastle United. The 22-year-old has appeared just 14 times in the Premier League for Manchester United in the last two years. However, with world-class performers Nani, Antonio Valencia, Ryan Giggs, Park Ji-Sung and Anderson ahead of him in the Old Trafford pecking order, he admits life has been tough in the North West. Now the winger says he is straining at the leash to show Toon fans what he can do. Speaking ahead of his move to Newcastle, the Frenchman spoke of his burning desire to get stuck into Arsenal in Saturday night’s explosive opener against the Gunners. With a slightly less daunting path in front of him to the Toon first team, Obertan is hungry to show his worth. When asked about the difficulties of getting past the likes of Nani and Co, Obertan told the Chronicle: “It is true that was a hard task – and it is difficult in Manchester when you do not play as much as you want to. “There were a lot of very good players there. “There is a lot of pressure. It is hard for any player when you only play every five or six games. “It was difficult, but despite that I still had good memories there. “Now I just want to show the Newcastle United fans exactly what I can do. Each game I play here I will have a point to prove. “I will be showing that in training every session and of course in the matches. “It will not be easy because there are quality players here already. “I just want to give 100% for the club.” Obertan was signed by Manchester United from Bordeaux two years ago after three years and 54 appearances and three goals for the French outfit. He is regarded primarily as a creator of goals, but says he leaves Old Trafford and Sir Alex Ferguson with no regrets. Obertan added: “You cannot be happy to leave a big club normally and I spent two good years there. “I have good memories of being there – we won the title and I was involved in good games there. “I am not sad, though, because I have signed for a big club. “It is very big here, there is a lot of history and I want to be here.” Obertan could go straight into the thick of the action against Arsene Wenger’s side this weekend and is looking forward to the prospect of pulling on a black-and-white shirt for the first time. He said: “If I can make my debut against Arsenal that would be great for me. It would be something that I would remember for a very long time.”
  19. Speaking on the prospect, Obertan told the Chronicle in an exclusive first interview: “I have met Hatem on a few occasions. “It will be good to play alongside him and show what I can do. “It would be great to make a flying start at this club. “If I start or if I come on as sub I just want to make a good first impression, and give my best on the pitch.” Ben Arfa could be out for another month but the Chronicle understands that he is making good steady progress from the ankle injury sustained in Kansas City last month on the Magpies’ American tour. Obertan added: “It is good that I know some people already. “It always helps at a club. I also know Danny Simpson from Old Trafford, so I am not coming into a place full of completely new faces.”

He will play until 35, then become player/manager until he's 50, then become chairman, then he'll be our owner not long after that. He'll also be Newcastle's mayor on the side as well as paying for the angel of the north to be altered to have his face on it.
