    Mevlüt Erdinç

NEWCASTLE United’s interest in Turkey striker Mevlüt Erdinç is over. The club are ready to move on to new targets after the Paris Saint Germain forward told United yesterday he would not be joining them. Newcastle had lodged a £7million bid with the French club on Tuesday which was being considered, but the player’s decision appears to have forced their hand. Although Newcastle boss Alan Pardew had been hoping the striker would have a change of heart, the club are now reluctantly moving onto another Continental-based striker. Erdinç’s agent Pierre Frelot confirmed to The Journal yesterday: “He will not be going to Newcastle. The player decided not to move and he is staying in Paris for next season.” Although United made quick progress in the transfer market after the season ended, Erdinç’s decision to stay in the French capital is a second blow in Newcastle’s chase for a forward to play off new target man Demba Ba. They missed out on priority target Kevin Gameiro, who joined PSG, and despite initial enthusiasm for a move to Newcastle, Erdinç has also decided to stay in Ligue 1. Shane Long has many admirers inside St James’ Park but it appears as if a foreign-based target is now their priority. That is not to say that they may not return to Long, who has been extensively scouted by assistant boss John Carver over the last six months. The Republic of Ireland striker is well thought of by many, with one North East-based scout telling The Journal that he is potentially the best forward the country has produced for a generation. Although a figure of £10million has been widely reported, sources in Berkshire have indicated that nearer £5m would be enough to sign the promising hitman. And it appears as if Charles N’Zogbia – a target for both Newcastle and Sunderland over the past six months – is heading for Aston Villa after initial discussions between the Villans and the French winger’s agent took place. N’Zogbia’s willingness to move back to St James’ Park was never in doubt, but the expense of the deal seems to have put Newcastle off and they will need to revive their interest at the eleventh hour to prevent him moving to the West Midlands. Meanwhile, United’s hopes of clinging on to José Enríque will be aided by Aly Cissokho’s mooted move to Liverpool. The French Press have reported that the left-back is moving closer to a switch to Anfield, which was expected to be Enríque's destination. But the Spanish defender – out of contract next summer – appears to have been overlooked, leaving Arsenal as the last club to rival Newcastle’s bumper contract offer. Pardew remains serene about Enríque’s intentions, saying that the club have made him a “fantastic offer”. He also dropped a strong hint that they would not stand in his way if a Champions League club came in for him. He said: “Jose just loves to play football. “His intention is to find a club that are playing Champions League football. The problem for us is that he only has a year left on his contract. “If he does stay and signs his contract then that’s great. If he doesn’t sign it then we have to see what happens. “I'd love him to stay and sign it – it is a fantastic offer. Until then there is nothing more to be said on the matter and we will just have to let the situation evolve. “Any football manager would want him to stay. “We have to do everything we can to persuade him this is the place to be – and get him to sign that new contract.” Read More http://www.journallive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2011/07/09/mevl-t-erdin-in-snub-for-newcastle-61634-29021687/2/#ixzz1Rb7eCw00

    Danny Guthrie

I'm in the opinion that Guthrie needs to leave the club. He's been very erratic for us in the premiership and simply not up to standard anymore. He'd do well at a Championship club, so hopefully we'll let him go so he can get plenty more games. Time to move on Danny
  7. splash some cashhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
  8. 2 Strikers. 1 Centreback. Anything else is a bonus to me.
  9. I see Smith becoming an integral part of this new setup..
  10. We absolutely can't afford to lose Colo. That would be a total disaster, in my opinion. Should offer him an extension.
  11. We'll no doubt move a couple of players on too, releasing more funds from Best, Smith, Ranger and Jos...erm I mean, yeah, another player of some sort. It's looking good so far
  12. Gan on youtube man! there's a few videos of him. Seems a tidy passer, great at set pieces, good acceleration and has a canny bit of skill. Quality for free

  14. Toon seal Marveaux coup http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_6994869,00.html Newcastle United have beaten Liverpool to the signing of French midfielder Sylvain Marveaux. The 25-year-old had appeared on course to sign for the Anfield club on a Bosman free transfer. But now Newcastle have nipped in to poach Marveaux and offer him a five-year deal, which he has accepted. The left-sided midfielder has been on Tyneside to finalise the move, which will shock Liverpool, who had presumed they had his signature in the bag. Newcastle looked at Marveaux earlier in the year, but it was presumed they had given up when Liverpool made their move. Marveaux is now set to become Newcastle's third signing of the summer, and he is the third French-born player to join following on from Yohan Cabaye and Demba Ba. Delight "It's a great coup to have signed Sylvain, who has received interest from a number of other clubs," said Toon chief Alan Pardew. "He may not be well known to many of our fans but he is a real talent and a player we have been keeping an eye on for some time. "It's been a good couple of days for us on the transfer front." Reports emerged on Friday that Marveaux had failed his medical at Anfield, but he confirmed this was not the case. "I do not want to go into details, but I did not sign for Liverpool because there was a contractual disagreement between the parties Thursday night," he confirmed to L'Equipe.

  16. We've felt your pain...probably a record number of times
  17. Depending on how many we get in, we may even be able to do a little squad rotation from time to time, just like the big boys

  19. Well chuffed with this, I just hope he's followed by players of the same caliber!
  20. We better not parade him around or anything, lets just keep it subtle please nufc. You can parade all you want at the end of the window after you've signed 5 quality players
  21. Obviously he has plenty of time on his side but I've just not been convinced when I've watched him play. I wouldn't be fussed if he left..
