I think we'd all be more clued up about his game if he'd been given reserve games. I just struggle to understand why he hasn't -

Lets have a little vote here.... If you were to choose, would you play Xisco or Carrol? Xisco for me. The lads in the Spanish U-21's, hes hungry, seems strong, ain't slow, got a good shot on him. As for Carrol, I don't really like his attitude, everytime I've seen him hes been shit, he doesn't contribute all that much, his passing is suspect...lets face it, has anyone been seriously impressed with him? I realise they're both young and time will tell but......I'd just love to see more of Xisco, so thats who I'd take a chance with. -
...what would it be?

Second-string Hull hold Magpies Louise Taylor Resting five key players, including their goalkeeper, captain and principal striker, Phil Brown's side comfortably forced an unwanted replay against a near full-strength Newcastle United. Bar some typical heroics from Shay Given, though, Joe Kinnear's side could well have headed home to Tyneside out of the Cup, leaving under-strength Hull having averted what Brown described as the "distraction" of a replay at St James' Park. Small wonder Kinnear ducked the post-match press conference. Whether the Ireland keeper is still around for the second match remains to be seen. After a statement expressing his "discontent" last week, a parting of the ways could be imminent. Given's first significant save saw him brilliantly palm Daniel Cousin's low shot on to the base of a post after Craig Fagan had dodged Nicky Butt and Steven Taylor down the left before crossing unimpeded. Later, he would deny Cousin, after the striker had spun Fabrizio Coloccini before shooting, and palm away a viciously swerving Geovanni free-kick. Hull thought their nemesis had, finally, been beaten when Michael Turner's header from Dean Marney's corner was flicked on to the woodwork by Damien Duff, guarding the far post, and arguably crossed the line before dropping for Given to gather. With the incident described as "inconclusive" by Brown, Chris Foy was surely right not to allow the "goal" to stand, but it emphasised Newcastle's short-circuit in concentration after a bright start. That false Geordie dawn saw a Michael Owen shot deflected for a corner. Having accelerated on to a long punt, Owen then lifted the ball over the advancing Matt Duke, but narrowly wide of an upright. After one win in 12 games, Hull are discovering the line between success and failure to be similarly fine. "We're starting to get back to that mentality of not being easy to beat, though," reflected a semi-satisfied Brown. "We're improving." The same cannot be said for Newcastle.

This is what I simply can't understand. Surely if you're rusty, getting back to full fitness or still adapting to english football; this is the perfect to get back into the team. Is it me or does this not make perfect sense. As far as I'm aware hes not played any reserve games? -
The problem with Guthrie that I can see is in choosing who to play with him. He's not particularly strong in breaking down play and hes not particularly good at attacking. He's just very neat and tidy, makes few mistakes and works hard. I like him but I wouldnt know whether to play him with a big defensive midfielder or an attacking player. I think Id prefer to use Guthrie as a defensive midfielder alongside an attacking player, but I dont think he excels in that area. I'd partner him next to a solid defensive midfielder, I don't really buy into this creative attacking midfielder that people want in a 4-4-2. I reckon his passing alone is quite creative and he'd be able to focus on that much more if he wasn't running around looking after grandfather Butt. That's not to say he can't be improved upon of course. When Barton is back I hope they are paired up instead of Butt keeping his place though. any idea when Bartons due back? been so long since hes been out I've forgotten

remember, this so-called statement has been released WITHOUT the permission of Shay, so I'm hoping that we'll see some apologies/counter-statements to say he'll be staying
-
I think he'll stay. We all know how great he is and how we've been pretty undeserving of his quality a lot of the time due to all the shit hes been through. I've got a feeling once we sign a couple of players, he'll change his mind. 11 years of saving our arses almost single-handidly would start to grate eventually........

someone needs to make a counter-banner. 'cockney mafia in' or 'ignore the stupid cockney mafia banners' if the media pick up on it then problem solved, for now
