Hm. Have the acted differently from any other commercial organisation here I wonder? If manyoo fans released a red shirt with a devil on it and called it the red devils shirt I suspect they'd be getting a knock on the door like. -
After Manyoo had their fingers burned with Zaha I'm not sure there are going to be that many takers for what he has at Palace anyway personally. They have some good players but none of them are that good to be joining a top 6 team if you ask me
-
Manyoo he was a little less isolated imo, Perez did a good job of occupying the space in that game. The same space that was totally void in the arsenal game. Fair point. I wonder how much better Perez would've fared in that environment which had Arsenal throwing themselves at the ground, as he himself is skillful enough to win freekicks in a similar manner, has quick feet, and could've caused their defence and midfield some problems. He should have been playing, simple as really. We need to ditch Anita or Colback and get Perez in there. We'll be much the better for it imo.

Sponsored by Louis Vuitton then

£10m is a lot of money, especially to a club who've got nowt. Not sure what us spunking £6m on Rivière has to to with them paying £10m for a bang average striker who was desperate to sign for anyone else but them either. The point is how much bang average strikers cost generally these days. Who has gone for less than Borini this summer who you could say is absolutely better? Hernandez about to leave for £9m. Jelavic going to West Spam for next to nowt. Antonio from Forest for £7m, Victor Moses available on a loan, Matt Phillips available on a free from QPR (all can play up top and do a better job than Borini, especially in a system with Defoe). Loads and loads of examples... Didn't Llorente leave Juve on a free? Even players like him, who Sunderland wouldn't be able to compete for - are available so cheap. Of those 'attainable' names only Hernandez is proven better imo, Jelavic has done nothing for ages. Time will tell mind, you could be right, certainly don't see Borini getting that many goals. From their perspective have they not straight swapped Whickham for Borini? Seems a decent deal when viewed that way.

It's concerning but how many points did we have under Pardew last season after the first 8 games? Can't have been much more than 5 and a quick run of wins had us into 5th man. No reason we couldn't win 6-8 games to the halfway point assuming we manage to turn the tide. I'm not expecting a thing at WHU btw, beat Watford, get reamed by Citeh and Chelsea. 8 games in we had 7 points and arguable a much easier start to the season of: Man City (h), Aston Villa (a), Crystal Palace (h), Southampton (a), Hull (h), Stoke (a), Swansea (a), Leicester (h). Leicester being the start of the run of wins. We have West Ham (a) and Watford (h) next two games - easily acceptable to class both of them as winnable. Chelsea (h) is nothing to fear, we play well against them for some reason and they are down on their knees atm. Man City away, will be difficult. After that, we have a run of 11 games where the hardest fixtures are Liverpool (h) and Tottenham (a) - but all easily winnable games. We've had probably one of the hardest starts to the season. aye, we need to win one of west ham or watford and hope chelsea's form is still balls when we meet them, but i suspect it won't be 5 points from a difficult start...looking at swansea just now you'd have to say southampton was our missed opportunity for more points really from the 'easier' fixtures so far i think west ham will beat us comfortably btw, like swansea they've started in good form

This. Everyone was crying out for us to sort out the defence during the whole summer - we have finally done that. And now we're awful because we've not scored 20 goals in our opening four games. I think it's very early to be saying we've "sorted" the defence mind. He's got the entire team working on protecting them and the moment they get exposed to fend for themselves they still look pretty shaky to me. They're not a back 4 unit imo, very far from it.

Same here. He looked miles away Saturday because he spent his short time on the pitch 20-30 yards away from his nearest teammate.
-
He's definitely not two thirds as good as Shearer like. 20 years ago
-
10m is nothing, didn't we pay 6m for Riviere? One day this board catches up to transfer fee escalation.
-
long run this sending off might be the best thing for him, who knows? or he'll come back like an absolute radegpacket of course

I don't think the majority are posting massively negative stuff tbf

Gabriel was lucky to have made out of that in one piece tbh.

that's just a half-empty, half-full way of looking at the same thing none of us really know what mclaren is really thinking at this stage, imo he's either come into the club and seen what an utter shambles it is from top to bottom and decided to build slowly starting by not conceding millions of goals and getting raped week in week out or his natural inclination is to be dour and defensive which some seem to think it is in fairness to mclaren 'building from the back' is a tried and tested strategy of both his generation of managers and the biggest influence on his career, fergie...worth remembering how fragile the confidence is/was of a lot of our senior players tbh, as much as anything that's probably not something you can just change overnight

He needs a season, if there are signs of improvement (and I can see them already) then he deserves even longer. I want this to work and I'm more than willing to give him the time to put it right. He's got a free pass 'til Easter a least. Think we need to be seeing some signs of improvement before we get to 19 games of the season gone myself personally. Already have. There's a noticeable difference and I hope it will be clear come Feb/March. If not then I'll be pretty pissed. i think they've been working on not conceding as a team but it's also at the expense of being able to worry the other team atm as well keep on working on that through the next two games, try not to get obliterated by citeh and chelsea and then he really has to start opening things up like

Agree really, I'm not sure the toxicity of the Pardew/Carver stints can be understated.
-
This is where you'd hope MA's famed maverick streak would come in handy, instead of sitting down and taking it we should be fighting a very public fight to get Mitrovic's ban overturned highlighting the inconsistencies etc. But we won't, we'll know our place.

That might also be down to the player's conditioning from the previous regime, I would be surprised if the mentality can be changed overnight. It took Keegan 8 games of dross before he got them to click following Allardyce's time as manager. Keegan took over mid season however. 8 games was roughly... 8 weeks, no? just came to post the same aye, mclaren has had the entire preseason like Preseason isn't the same as playing competitive games though. I don't know if you were expecting results overnight, but I said before the season started that I thought it would be a couple of months in before we started to take shape. If McClaren had come here in January we'd be a lot further forward IMO. That said, if we don't look any better in a month's time then he is obviously going to start coming under pressure. Just too early to draw much conclusion from 4 games and a pretty tough start. Unfortunately he will still be playing Anita and Colback in a month's time and that is the problem - it doesn't work and never will work and just about everyone can see it so why can't he. He might be able to see its not working but he might be trying to change one thing at a time. Yeah sure, only time will tell on that front but he does have other options, this is the issue for me, its not like he's totally boxed into that selection

Posted on this very page or the one just before he needs time, so no I don't expect overnight results but I expect changes to be made to things that are obviously wrong. Took him 3 games to suss Obertan by the looks of it so hopefully that's done with. How many games to work out his midfield pairing does not work and for him to drop Colback? Think we'll be waiting a while myself but literally everyone knows its a bag of shit, there's no one on this board arguing its a good call and that should tell you everything.

Wew aye. Or they go big for Pep before he signs a new contract
