Madness!!! (Togo banned from next two Africa Cups of Nations)
Segun Oluwaniyi replied to Thespence's topic in Football
It's a very interesting decision. If one is going strictly by the rules, then Togo ought to be banned because it was the government who went against the FA and pulled them out. The precedent was set in 1996 with Nigeria. We pulled out of 1996 over "safety fears" (Was bulls*** politics from Abacha in all honesty) and were banned from 1998. The penalty is too harsh, though. There are extenuationg circumstances here, and Togo should only be fined for inconveniencing the tournament. I don't understand why their ban is harsher than Nigeria's when they had a rather legitimate reason for leaving. -
We can get loans in after monday, moron. Well that's ok then. Who gives a s*** that we've dropped points again. Regardless of of bringing in a striker or not, we should have won today. The two are not correlated.

Serious, man? The window isn't over yet, first off. All indications are that we are interested in bringing in another players and our top target was snapped up by a Premiership side. Even if we don't sign a striker it hasn't been a failure.

Wigan have a better squad and manager than we do. It's not surprising that we've missed him. However, it is cklear we still have a bit of money to spend and hopefully Ashley/Hughton/Derek can get another decent player in with that.

Nigeria win another medal!!! It's bloody ridiculous at this point. There have been 5 ACN in this decade. We have finished second or third in 4 of them. I am so bitter.

I remember how good he looked, I also remember how s*** he actually was last season. I believe he got 3 assists last year, utterly woeful given the players he had in front of him. His end product has been far more useful this year in a significantly inferior league, much like shola. Don't get me wrong, he's been essential this year but let's not re-write last season. I'm talking about that little period in December, where we looked a very good side and dominated Stoke and Portsmouth. That period ended with Oba getting a groin injury and us being destroyed by Liverpool at SJP. Our better attacking players were pretty much injured or half-fit from that point on in the season, and before that as well, tbh. It was often Shola or Carrol up there otherwise.

See my earlier post in this thread , we had God in Shearer in the 9 Shirt, then Methuselah in Martins , now Moses. Ridiculous, man! If anyone is Methuselah it's Geremi anyway. Blame the Cameroonians for once.
-
Moses-10 would be better.
-
Correct, sir. Hell, we might sign them too.

I fixed your post for you. Not directed specifically at you, but more to all the stupid internet battles going on in the football section.

People forget how good Jonas looked at times last yearm when he had fully fit Oba and Owen running in front of him. If we surround him with other dangerous mobile players, he will suddenly become a much more effective player.
-
How do you figure? They consistently sell players at a profit and supposedly have a rather strict wage structure in place. I'd be more worried about the likes of Villa, tbh.
-
We did it for the large portions (our best portions actually) of last season.
-
I'm pretty Hughton already rubbished this.

Wow!! Ashley and co. have been bloody impressive these last few days. Would love if we could pull this off.

Why are the penalties for cocaine so high in football? You'd think the idea would be to help players with their life-altering addictions rather than just throwing them out of the sport for years. It should be up to the club in my opinion, anyway.
-
They must be giving him mega-wages or something. That is a terrible move.

David James?

You really think that man. Football is the country is broken top to bottom. You saw the match against Zambia, right? It was telling. That is our level. We are a below average African side. Maybe we should realise that and lower expectations.

I suspect that Donovan will stay so long as he is successful and plays regularly. The minute things turn south, he'll be heading back to LA. Shame that Brian McBride wasted his career in MLS--he's the one that might of really done well. You realise that McBride played in Fulham for years, right?

It's depressing. They got ONE chance for God's sake. It's breaking my heart seeing Kanu in his last Nations Cup watching this bunch of frauds and losers shrivel up and die against weak opposition. Fitting that our best chance rebounded off Yakubu's fat arse and flew into the gallery. I'm really not enjoying football anymore.
