He wasn't good enough really, but he provided something that no one else in this team really did. De Jong is probably better than him, imo, but we all know how that has gone thus far. Not good enough but the likes of Colback and Gouffran are. He has shown some flashes for this club, and has obvious attributes, but his performances were very inconsistent especially domestically, even when he was given ample time on the pitch (the near relegation season), imo. Pardew treated him poorly, that is unquestionable, but there is little evidence that he would be transformative this season. Ben Arfa and Yanga-Mbiwa are different cases in my opinion at least.

I've always remembered Manchester City being a useless nothing team for my entire life until 2008. It is probably just because of when I was born, but Chelsea becoming one of the most successful teams in England made sense because they had always been a decent, competitive side that seemed to have potential for growth. Manchester City were mostly a joke and a lowly regarded club. NUFC would be more befitting of that status, imo. It is a bigger club, with international recognition that dominates a region of country. If City had been relegated under the Thai in 2007, no one would care.

Ben Arfa was here before Pardew and Anita has played a lot under his tutelage, even though his fans think he should play every single match. We have also had many foreign (Who you would assume were scouted by Carr) successes that Pardew has consistently abused. His destruction and subsequent fascination with Gouffran an example.

If you are just "making up the numbers", why not call up someone who will not be 34 at the next Euros? Personally, it would not surprise me if Lambert is actually called up to Euro 2016 for England and plays for them there, but that logic makes no sense.

He isn't that bad, but he doesn't belong in the starting 11 for a top 10 side (which we should be). None of the central midfielders at this club consistently perform well. Sissoko has really underwhelmed, which is a shame because I had very high expectations for him, but the obvious talent has only shown in flashes. Colback, Anita, and Tiote are all bit-part players, imo. Tiote is a blunt instrument that loses the ball and puts the team in danger too often. I think Colback is good enough for a spot in the squad and Anita is a helpful player, but neither of them impact the match enough to be relied on regularly.

His Athletic side was the same. Loads of pressure, quick transitions and a lot of forward drive. They were really fun to watch since both goals would see plenty of action. I love him tbh. Plays football pretty much how I think it should be played and he's a bit mad I just love that he brings his system with him wherever he goes and i love that its a mad 3-3-3-1 or whatever it is and it's not your standard formation, bit mad in that aspect, but he's got a team he's just taken over and they are playing exactly the way he wants them to. Top of Ligue 1 which is cool in itself. Banging goals in and defending well too. My man Rene Girard also doing well with Lille so far, always in and up around the top of the league. Lille have decent players and play incredibly boring football. They do alright because of a strong defense and Enyeama, but don't impress me. If Musa could consistently cross or finish with consistency he'd be a top player. Luckily for Bayern, he has had one of his poorer matches today, because their lead has looked precarious thus far and Musa has breached them a few times with pace.

Cabaye/Debuchy made themselves undroppable internationals and coveted players here, Remy and Ba solidified themselves as top players on their way to big moves, Ben Arfa rejuvenated his career here and was back int he national team until Deschamps was appointed. For all its faults, NUFC is still a huge club, in a superior more publicised league that will increase the player's wages. Even with all you said, it is probably the correct decision to come here.

Newcastle's back four is the worst in the league by a large distance. Janmaat, the stand out player, hasn't shown basic defensive skills yet, and I was absolutely positive that the reinvigorated Moses would tear him to pieces. It did not disappoint. He will improve, but is not too good at the current. The other three will never again be good enough to start for a Premiership team, yet start every match for this side.
-
Defensively both are fairly atrocious, imo. Haidara at least attempts to be positive with the ball, though. When Santon is fit, he is at least a good footballer than can carry the ball forward well and pass and move. Dummett just seems to smash it as far from goal as possible, which is not acceptable for a modern fullback.

Stoke City vs Newcastle United - 29/09/14 @ 20:00 (Sky)
Segun Oluwaniyi replied to a topic in Football
Comprehensive defeat, imo. 2 or 3-nil. NUFC will come out to defend and counter, Stoke will break through around the 40th minute, and Newcastle will fail to react until very late in the contest. -
PSG are really quite average in a sense. Their football is never anything special, and the side lacks creativity. Obviously, they have great quality in defence, but this unit is not entirely cohesive either. I don't know, just for all they have spent everything is very workmanlike especially when Ibra isn't around. Bielsa has been very, very impressive after a questionable first few matches. l'OM probably lack the quality in depth to actually hold off PSG over the course of 38 matches, but crazier things have happened in this league.

Based on what? He was an absolutely s**** manager and the two transfer windows he oversaw were a total disaster, Martins aside. He didn't really buy much anyone else at all, tbf. I have always liked Glen Roeder. I categorise him with Hughton as a very likable, but ultimately very average manager.
-
He has the raw talent (decent pace, technique and dribbling) but your assessment is probably very close to what will happen. Hard to see him getting the minutes he needs here. Hope he can find a good team in the Championship and get back to the PL that way with a smaller club. That article is ridiculous though, last time he had a run in the team he was easily one of the better performing players. Pardew is a joke. Pardew "sees him every day in training". As for his career path, SanToon is mostly correct, imo. I do rate Sammy as a player, but I think he'll end up spending the next five-six years or so performing fairly well (though still lacking end-product which is quite obviously never going to be a part of his game), eventually get his way back into Premiership through being bought cheaply or promoted, score a brace at SJP for another team, record a few hilariously shameful appearances for Nigeria, and end up back in obscurity, probably abroad.

This is what I was saying when we were linked to Riviere. Gouffran arrived as the better player, but after a 1.5 years of Pardew-ball he might not be that attacker anymore. He has been playing in the "run hard, but aimlessly down the left side" role for quite a while now. Another thing about Cisse seemingly returning early and looking fit/confident is that we will almost certainly never see Facundo.
-
It was remarkably predictable that Cabella and Riviere would both take time to adjust and really show themselves, just given the types of players they are. It is also remarkably predictable that the lunatics who run this asylum would not consider this and put these two new players in position where they have to be the focal points of the side. Is it really this surprising that the flighty, skillful, and slight attacking midfielder is struggling to find the pace or physicality of the game early in his time? Did they not take into account that this only slightly above average Ligue 1 striker might struggle being thrown up top alone with little support? We are in only September, and both players are already reaching a crossroads with supporters because of the way they have been handled.

Now Cronky changes his tune along with College Dropout. Better late than never I suppose. The guy has been at best average in the last two calendar years, with several spells in which he was one of the poorest players in the first team. This is a good start to the season, but he has to keep his performances at a decent level for an extended period of time, because this has not happened for a while.
-
Pardew doesn't deserve the sack any more or less than he did before the match, tbf. If the team fails to win the next two matches (which isn't unlikely, both sides are decent teams at home), Pardew will go because the team will be adrift from the rest of the league and Ashely will have no choice. I hope the spell at the end , with NUFC fighting back and the crowd roaring behind the players is a catalyst for Cisse and the new boys to gain some confidence and get their feet on the crowd. All of them have the ability to improve the team, imo. Gouffran also looked himself for the first time in a while, so hopefully this is a trend.

How much money have QPR spent over the past four seasons to desperately fight against relegation and barely achieve promotion? Their return on investment is embarrassing.

A vaguely competent manager that doesn't seem to be going through a mental collapse would suffice. People are not asking for Jesus Christ to come back to Earth. They just want someone that will not embarrass himself and the club at least three times a month. I was alright with the decision to give Pardew another chance after 2012-2013, but he should have been sacked near the end of last season and probably also should have been sacked after Newacstle United's last three matches.

Jonás Gutiérrez (now managing Club Almagro)
Segun Oluwaniyi replied to Crumpy Gunt's topic in Football
I really don't understand what some of you people want, tbh. The reports from yesterday are true, Jonas wanted to keep the story out of the news, the club offers its support to him. This is all we need to know. I am sure some sort of gesture will be performed at the Hull match now that his condition is common knowledge. I would much rather focus on the health of of someone who has entertained me countless number of times, then use speculative information as another way to rubbish the club. There are already so many avenues for that anyway... -
Chelsea have looked terrible defensively ever since Fabregas began playing for them. Surprised by CSKA's result, they are a decent team. You do not win a fairly tough league for two consecutive season by being rubbish.

Jonás Gutiérrez (now managing Club Almagro)
Segun Oluwaniyi replied to Crumpy Gunt's topic in Football
There is no reason to criticise the club until more information is released, to be honest. While the club have told us nothing, it is also important to note that Jonas, himself, has also been invisible for a long period of time. He may have preferred things this way. Mostly, I just have thoughts and prayers for him. For the years he has been at the club, Gutierrez has been a great professional and seemed a good man. I hope to be reading articles about him fully recovering and continuing with football or the next stage of his life, in the coming months.
