  1. Whether we stay up or go down, if Rafa is still here then the squad still gets a major overhaul, if we go down we'll need one to get back up and another so he can really start his project. If we stay up I expect a lot of change and with Rafa here we should be a more attractive proposition. If we can now say we've got the manager, infrastructure, money, fans and ambition to compete we are going to in a far better place than saying come to Newcastle and if you can stay interested for a couple of years then we'll try and make a profit on you and find you a bigger, proper, club. We've had false dawns before but if Ashley has made this appointment and then fails to back it and reverts to type once the TV money is safe then there'll be open revolt, he'd have been better off keeping McClaren and hope for the best. Surely he's seen that his way doesn't work and that with a little bit of encouragement that the fans will unite behind the manager and a team that actually wants to compete. Given the fortune he has and the money the club brings in the finance needed is pretty small time for him. It's the hope that kills.
  2. I've read a few posts from Lpool fans saying Rafa will win a trophy with us. Other than possibly The Championship if we go down, this is Newcastle, we don't win trophys. Can you imagine if we did.....
  3. Rafa must have been given assurances about next seasons budget if we stay up. He'll walk if those assurances aren't upheld. God, I hope we stay up, pre season promises to be fun. We could see half the squad ditched.

Nice statement from him, glad he's gone.

Paul Merson hasn't half spouted some shite about the club being disrespectful to McClaren; he's been given more time than other sides have given struggling managers, he can have no complaints.

Been told that the hold up is the agreement for Benitez's back room staff (from a reliable source) and that McClaren has been told that he has to carry on until it is all sorted. No wonder he looks a bit peeved, he knows he's going but he has to get on with it for now. Training must be fun just now.

They must have been making enquiries with alternatives and the chances are they've scared them off. Unless there is a sea change in policy any ambitious manager would tell us to do one. If he stays I hope we get stuffed by Leicester and suffer more embarrassment against the Mackems.

    Steve McClaren

He disappeared into the dugout after their 3rd. He's a complete coward when he thinks a situation is irretrievable, he gives up, he spent so much time on the touch line today with his head in his hands and then just hid. The players look absolutely indifferent to it all and he is trying to be in complete self denial. The whole thing is shambolic.

Not trying to be clever but this is a post from pre season. What is clear then is clear now, it is truly incredible how he is still here. 363 Football / Re: Newcastle United 0-1 Borussia Mönchengladbach - FT « on: August 01, 2015, 17:41:36 » Our squad is lop sided at the moment, we have too many bang average midfielders and we have to off load some. We desperately need a LB and another centre half. I also think we need to sign Austin, Mitrovic could be anything but he hasn't exactly hit the ground running. We need goals. I can see McClaren going safety first next week with Colback a certain starter and I'd personally have Sissoko alongside him. I've no idea how you play De Jong, Perez and Mitrovic in the same side, we more or less need 2 set ups depending on whether Mitrovic or Perez plays. It all looks a bit of a mess to me.

Today was worse than anything served up the last time we went down. A relegation rival and he players couldn't be arsed cos they've lost all belief. I expected us to lose but my god we lost shambolically and without any pride.

I didn't expect anything last night however, Stoke were there for the taking, he should have seen it and reacted to it. If we'd got amongst it, harried them down and kept at it we'd have won. Sunderland, on the basis of their recent performances would, imo, have won last night. How McClaren hasn't been sacked yet is astonishing.
  20. This is there for the taking for the side that really wants it. We'll lose it playing for a point.
