Aye, definitely warming to the white shorts and socks. I remember when Gullit tried changing them start of the 99/00 season he said it just makes you look like a great team. Here we are. :smitten:

Is it just my failing memory or have we been traditionally unlucky wearing white shorts? Nice break with tradition last night if so.

  2. Driving home from work tonight and Grandstand road and the other side of the central motorway bridge were packed with cars. Guessing that was for the 2nd viewing tonight. Was it cancelled?

And what happens if you dont know early enough to return it? Ie last season my mate found out his lass went into labour two weeks early less than an hour before the bus left. Old rules he gave his ticket to his brother and no money lost which is fair enough and my whole point in this. Now that would be £100 up the shitter because hes subhuman scum that doesnt book refundable travel.....I cant imagine the boxoffice being much help early doors on a Sunday morning.

There'll always be unfortunate and exceptional circumstances stopping people from using their own ticket but the thing is the club has to have something in place to try and allocate a ticket to the applicant only, and other tickets going to those with fewer pts as a consequence . If someone can't make it they'll be genuine in a lot of cases but the club can't tell who is and isn't. Whether we like it or not the system has been in place for years. Tickets go to ST holders and those with the most pts 1st. As I've mentioned elsewhere, I say that through gritted teeth because I lost loads of pts and now don't have any. In the eyes of the club I've no record of loyalty despite going home and away for 47 years, but I knew the risks when I gave my ticket up. It's only now become an issue because of the increased demand.

Nobody is talking about home games for a few pages now.......

I returned a an away ticket a couple of seasons ago and got a refund off the club no problem. Just told them I was unable to go. Maybe they take a different stance these days. Who knows?

Because its utterly ridiculous that should someone have the audacity to be ill or heaven forbid something else like suddenly working that their ticket should remain empty due to a pathetic rule saying it cant be used?

I've got every sympathy with anyone who's shelled out a fortune on travel etc and then genuinely can't make it but couldn't anyone just make an excuse when they had no intention of ever going and only wanted to help someone out?

Anyone go to ‘ZOOTS’ before the match?

    ???

Aye, late 80s. Excellent! Can remember one day pre a West Ham visit when someone just shouted "West Ham!" to give the false impression that some West Ham fans had came in. Whole place went up with no one to actually fight. People chucking pint glasses towards the entrance etc. Mad.

Ah cheers mate that could well explain it. We're in LWC level 4.

Very same happened to me and my daughter for a cup game in the very same section last season. In the run up to the game we were baffled by how the seat Nos suggested we were sat apart but it all became clear when we got in there. Seats were together.

Anyone go to the Abbey Stadium for the away with Cambridge United in 1992 when we won 2-0 and Kilcline marked Dion Dublin out of the game?

Bit of a surprise result IIRC. Wasn't there but went the following year when i think we won 3-0. Must have been promotion season, glory hunter that i am :)

Aye, it's class. I'm an unashamed anorak when it comes to stuff like this. Completed the 92 at Forest Green v Salford last month. Did about 60 odd grounds with the Toon then when i temporarily chucked my ST and was at a loose end i thought i'd try and do the rest. Had some fantastic days out at random places.

Mackem at work reckons we will be lucky to get a point in our CL group. It's amazing what a 5 nil win and a bad run for us does for their confidence!

This coming from someone whose club has played about 2 European ties in its history.

That doesn’t seem to have changed at all then [emoji38]

So some people with high points are less likely to sell on their tickets (whereas last season people with no points could get tickets from their high point mates).

And now those with low points are buying tickets just to sell on and boost their points (so those same people with no points can still buy tickets from those people).

    So what has changed?

As you say people with low pts can buy to boost their pts total and sell on but with the possibility of ID checks it's not without risk these days.

Have had a look for this weekend - probs gonna be either a trip to Newcastle Blue Star (for a look at their set up) or Bedlington Terriers.

Been going quite a lot lately as quite local. Aye it's a decent set up. Big marquee with a bar in. Used to be that anyone could sit at the tables in there but as they've grown more popular i think they've become a bit more selective these days. Not 100% sure but think you have to book tables of 6 as hospitality. Not expensive like. Likewise they've got a decked area with picnic tables at the front of it where you can sit with a pint but there's a sign up saying ST holders only but again not sure if they are strict in that respect. Doing well in the league though after promotion to NL2. Won the 1st 7 then drew the last couple. Usually about 300 at the home games.

    They a Sunday League side?#

Oh - Northern Alliance, I see after checking. I'll discuss with the lad I look after next week - to see what he wants to do. Whitley is an alternative, as are Ashington (which would be a drive up and back) Blyth an option too, but £17 for a seat + me as carer seems a bit steep. Will see.

Do North Shields Athletic play at John Spence school? Not a very attractive venue if so.

  14. 10 hours ago, Unbelievable said:

I imagine it would aye. On the other hand, if you want to grow revenue you might want to cater for international fans, who would probably be willing to spend more on a per match basis than locals (thinking club shop sales, etc.) Under the current system it’s practically impossible for fans from abroad to plan a trip to come and take in a game. Imagine the scenes if Newcastle play abroad (not hard at this moment in time) and as fans you would only know a week in advance if you were succesful in getting a ticket. Would you book travel and accommodation in advance?

When I lived in Newcastle there was a waiting list for season tickets. Looks like demand once again far outstrips supply. A SJP expansion can’t come soon enough.

Don't know about this season but DFDS used to do packages that included a match ticket. Met 2 Fortuna Sittard ST holders (father and son) in town the night before the Arsenal game. Had the doubletree by Hilton included at the airport. On a side note, it will be interesting to see membership take up next season. Suppose those who manage to get tickets will keep it and those that don't will seriously question its value.

  15. 6 wins out of 6 for newly promoted Blue Star after a 5-0 win v Brandon Utd yesterday. Bizarrely seen a rear car door open, a lad flat out on the back seat and a pool of spew on the pavement beneath his head after I left the ground. Can of drink visible inside. Hope it wasn't his car. No way he'd drive home.

Spoke to a mate who’s a Chelsea fan and member over the weekend. Their system is interesting.

You accumulate member loyalty points for games you attend.

E.G Liverpool at home gets you 10 points. Whereas a less glamorous fixture in the League Cup vs Barsnley might get you 30 points.

When tickets are released to members at 10am the starting threshold may be 200 points. This then reduces at 1pm to 100 points and then by 5pm to 50 points etc. All members tickets will then be sold on that day.

Basically, the more points/loyalty you have will more or less guarantee you a ticket to a game you want to attend as long as you log in at the right time.

He says it’s a great and fair system. Been plenty of times he’s missed out solely because he hasn’t logged in at 10am and it’s his own fault.

Really not sure why we can’t implement something similar.

It is an interesting one but the way things have been since the takeover, it seems like members haven't necessarily been choosing which games they go to. It's been more of a case of people getting to whichever games they've been lucky enough to get tickets for. The points , big or small would just be given according to which games each applicant had been successful for. Takes away the 'loyalty' aspect IMO.

any time. episodes are weekly and they'll stay on Prime indefinitely. last episode (4) is on Friday 1st September

Similar to Netflix? 1st episode will appear some time tomorrow then I just find it and press play anytime from then on in? God , I really am an old git.

The question for future games is do you skip the ballot and risk the resale, at least you can choose not to be back row of level 7.

I suppose if they're happy to sit anywhere most will enter the ballot as it gives them an extra chance of getting a ticket. If your physically unable to reach areas of the ground or fussy with the view you'd probably only try the the resale option.

I think you’ve got too caught up in the specific issue of Haydn’s mates gall bladder.

He’s just used it as an illustration of the principle of allocated seats being unsuitable for some people

It could equally have be an 80 year old with a dodgy hip and bad eyesight being lobbed in level 7, it could be a 6 year old being scared shitless amongst the radgies in Strawberry Corner and so on and so on

Thats the point that‘s being made

Theres already unhappy people who are posting in here who were successful in the ballot, but been given seats they would never have chosen to pay £44 for

This isn’t not about loyalty, or working hours, or gall bladders, or entitlement

Its about people attending an event in a stadium being able to select an available seat that suits their personal preferences and budget

    Which is standard industry practice

It would make sense to offer successful ballot applicants a ticket in a particular area/areas 1st. Those offered can then take it or leave it. Seems the way it is people are "stuck" with tickets in unsuitable or inaccessible areas.

Dack's wife used to go out with Chris from Love Island who's a Sunderland fan

Olivia Atwood isn't it? Bet she'll love Sunderland. Saying that Blackburn's hardly glamorous. In reality they're probably moving from Alderly Edge or somewhere in Cheshire to Darras Hall.
