You’d have thought somewhere local would’ve hosted. I know they’ve played up at Consett recently.

Why? State of the pitch or something?

As much as I hate Sun'land I must say I love those "Mad Mistake" videos. Only watch them after they get beat, so quite frequently. Seem like a good bunch o lads TBH. Obviously, like many others they  just love a match day with a few beers.

Leazes West corner, the ballot gods selected me to sit with John Sinclair - he recorded practically the entire 90 mins on his iPhone & flipped to selfie mode for in game analysis.

Glad I had a few drinks before hand, it was an experience I'd rather not have to go through again.

Ah John Sinclair. Aye, after looking him up i know who he is now. Sits a few rows behind me. Can hear him talking into his phone throughout the game.

That's correct - I urge you to watch one of his match vlogs on youtube, then imagine sitting next to him for the entire game. :kinnear:

Is he a black guy, travels from Bristol by any chance?

Anyone got the invite for that Shay Given/Nick Pope digital event on Thursday?

Aye, more interested in the quiz aspect of it tbh. I've zero experience of using Zoom so a little apprehensive.

It's a bendy bus with a fancy name.  The G1 that runs between east and west Belfast is what you'd want, towards Dundonald. #BelfastBusChat

Dundonald. Reminds me of taking my daughter over there when she was young. Had been some cheap flights etc. Anyway, we wanted to go skating at the "Dundonald ice bowl". Got on a bus. Told the driver where we were going. Now I'm usually good with accents but I was convinced the driver told us to get off at what I thought was a pub, "The Horse Bottle". Journey goes on and I don't see this pub. Best ask the driver I thought. Turns out he'd told us to get off at the HOSPITAL  which we'd  passed ?. Luckily the bus went on a circular route and we stayed in til we passed again.

Ah, Joe Harvey. I've got very little recollection of him but he did live near me at my childhood home in West Denton when I was growing up. A bungalow facing the West Road. Drove past there last night, as I do most Sunday nights after picking up my Chinese. Often find myself singing "Joe,Joe, Joe Harvey!" A as I pass. Alone at the wheel like a mad man ?.

Did we not get stuffed in an FA cup semi v Man Utd in Cardiff circa 2004? Happy to wipe it from my memory of course.

  10. My wife overheard a conversation outside a social club in Blackpool when we were there recently. Group of ageing mackem 'ladies got asked if they were from Newcastle. "Nah! We're not Geordies. My man won't even watch them arseholes Ant n Dec on the tele". ?

  11. Just a thought at the moment as probably won't find anybody else up for it. Stag do in Belfast next month and Glentoran are at home in the cup quarter final. Seems handy for the city centre and cheap to get in (£13 league price). Anyone experienced any NI domestic stuff? Can you drink on the concourse? All the important questions need answering ☺.

Tbf we’ve also done the ‘nonce’ chants at the smoggies

Oh aye, of course we have. There were major child abuse allegations towards certain Teeside doctors during the mid 80s. On one of my 1st visits to Ayresome Park I can remember Nik Kershaws hit "I won't let the sun go down on me" being adapted to "I won't let me dad go down on me"

  13. Had a drive down to Chester or Street Utd for the Blue Star game this afternoon. Club had said it would be on but arrived at 2.25 to see glum faced Blue Star players leaving. Tgeyvreckon the ref stuck his key in the pitch then called it off. If anything conditions had improved by the ridiculous late timing of his decision. Not the other end of the earth but still 30 miles worth of petrol wasted for me, not to mention my time.

Before this thread goes "dead", I need to get this off my chest.  I listened to radio Newcastle on the Monday evening after the wear Tyne Derby.  Marco Gabbadini was an absolute disgrace.  He very rarely talked about the actual game/tactics etc.  He was totally absorbed and obsessive about the "photo" that happened at the end of the game.  He thought it was "very disrespectful" and that it was a pre planned act of arrogance.  Every Newcastle fan was treated awfully by him.  Some sunderland fans even called in giving us support/understanding and told him to back off.  He was awful!

Aye, heard that on Monday. This lot have FTM on everything man. I've seen bucket hats probably produced by the club with it on. Where's the respect in that?

  15. Got to admit I was a nervous wreck until our pen. Yes I know, different leagues and all that but we've seen us fail to turn up against lower league sides so often over the years and even at 2 up I'm  thinking they get one back, crowd get a lift and who knows? We've been good at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory this season. Suppose I'm just an NUFC pessimist but many decades have made me that way. Couldn't have went any better as it turned out. We were stronger, cleverer. Were knicking the ball from the off. We really put them in their place and showed them how far behind us they are. I'd be happy to never play them again and let this hang over them. I keep thinking I don't care as much as I once did but it was as if life depended on it on Saturday.

  16. Aberdeen 0 St Mirren 3 yesterday. In the St Mirren end which was one of the coldest I've ever experienced. Open ended away section with rain being blown in from the North sea across the road by strong winds. 1st time at Pittodrie but it's a good old school ground, sadly soon to be replaced. St Mirren are poor away but wins at Aberdeen are very rare so I struck lucky. Semi jokingly said "fancy a night in Aberdeen" to the wife and to my amazement she said aye. All went smoothly. Trains ran etc after much uncertainty midweek. Half a dozen pints around Aberdeen last night but had to run between bars to try and minimise the impact of the incessant rain.

Having lost to Luton and Forest we will go to Anfield and get a result, just Newcastle all over that

We do have a habit of beating the best but losing to the rest. It's a tough ask on NYD though. Here's hoping anyway.

Again, I pin that on the manager. This season has highlighted a glaring glitch in EH’s matrix. If he can’t execute plan A, there’s nothing. Yes, he’s been unlucky with injuries, really unlucky but I’d expect a top class manager to be able to chess game his way out of it, to a degree.
Have we all just got to accept that because players are tired and we have an injury list, we aren’t winning games?

I would say we have to accept these are major factors in making it harder to win football matches at least.

Takes me back to my 1st ever game that pic. The same 2 teams involving the same 2 players but a few years later (76). Old Leazes, soon to be demolished. Billy Bonds played. Mervyn Day in goal for WHU. Think the 1st football song I heard live was "Mervyn Day is a p**f." so changed days indeed. We won 2-1 with Supermac and Tommy Craig getting the goals. That vivid green turf was an awesome sight as it appeared in front of my eyes for the 1st time. Happy days.
