  1. Ask the Scots if they thought he played 'Fantasy Football' up there.... You will soon find NUFC fans complaining if they DON'T get so-called Fantasy Football - look what happened when Dalglish was manager(and he inherited a tighter budget than KK), he was slated for playing 'unattractive football', but got us to 2nd place and a Cup Final..he was fired after the second game of a season because of the mortal sin of drawing the first 2 games, one away at Chelsea, because of 'Unattractive football'...what happened when Gullit got the job ? A load of idiots wearing curly wigs and chanting 'Sexy football'....what happened after that? Ask Shearer & Rob Lee..... And then, there was Allardyce......and then, Kinnear..... Mowbray got Albion promoted playing decent football - you can't get the players who have those strengths to play a different way in the Prem - its hardly his fault if he hasn't been given the dosh to get the players necessary to change the system ; and don't forget, he was a tough CH himself, so he knows all about defending... NUFC have tried getting so-called 'proven' managers, incl a foreign one in Gullit who did well at Chelsea...none of it has worked. The club's only option is to get a younger manager with potential and let him run the club on a proper footing without interference. Erm, Robson? Erm - he was 66 when he joined the club and although he did a good job, he turned it down when SJH asked him after KK left in 97....he also wasted quite a bit of money on bad buys and lost control of some of the wasters in the Dressing Room - that's why we need a younger manager who will REBUILD THE CLUB. The simple fact is NUFC have tried "so-called proven managers" and at least one of them has worked, which is why I picked you up on your claim that none of them had. Choosing a young manager is not the club's only option, it's simply your preferred option, let's not confuse the two. I'm all for giving the job to a younger manager, but that manager must (in my opinion) have some experience (ie not like Shearer), but if they pull a good older manager out of the hat then I'll be satisfied. The important thing for me is that the decision is taken based upon logic, that we get someone who is likely to be good and not simply because they will appeal to the emotional side of our fans. We've seen where that leads us and it's not a place I want to end up again. And who among the older managers is likely;- a) To take the job b) Be acceptable to the supporters ? Robson was for 2 reasons - he was a NE man and he had been successful not only in England, but abroad too... Look at the discontent when Redknapp was approached for the job, mainly because he was a Cockney and that he hadn't had the success Robson had. George Graham was mentioned as a temp manager after KK left, but this board had plenty of posters who thought it was sacrilege...likewise Venables, and these were men who had won things BUT - they were older managers. As it happens, I don't think EITHER of them would have performed as badly as Kinnear.... 'My preference', as you put it, for a younger manager is because the club needs someone who wants to be a success, NOT someone who is on their last pay day ; Houllier would be a reasonable stop gap, but ONLY with a younger man alongside him, and anyone who has faith in their own ability would NOT want someone looking over their shoulder or interfering in team affairs. I agree with those who say that its a gamble with Shearer because he has NO proper managerial experience, but as I said on another thread, that doesn't mean he might not be a success if given the chance ; we have had TOO MANY managers & false starts, and the next one has to be a stable guy who can grow with the club as Shankly did at Liverpool and Revie with Leeds. NUFC has been a joke club, staggering from crisis to crisis for too long - we need someone who will bring stability, progress and longevity to the manager's office - whether we can achieve this under the current regime is doubtful to say the least. And there we have the primary reason why this club is an almost impossible task. Every single fan out there is a football expert and the majority of fans havent the open mind to consider an appointment purely on its merit or potential, if they dont get want they want, or we do struggle a little then the pressure gets turned on pretty quick, that is of course unless the appointment has appeased the fans in which case they are afforded a little more time. There are only 3 options for the fickle fans, local lad, world class appointment or flavour of the month. No Wenger, no Houllier no Jol, even Grant would of struggled if he was appointed here before his stints at pompey and chelsea, I remember people turning their noses up at Sven and O'Neill when they were touted for the job. Newcastle fans need a reality check, and they need to decide what they want, becasue one day its beautiful football the other days its just winning football, the next its just gradual improvement (with 22 games gone). Either way they need to get fully behind whatever appointment is made if the merits warrant it.
  2. Tony Mowbray, Deschamps, Zico, Martinez, Ketsbaia and Bilic are all caoaches that I'd like the club to consider for the job, each and everyone has there merits. I think only Martinez would struggle at the club becasue i dontthink he'd get the respect of the players.
  3. I think Bruce could handle the pressure, he knows the club and will know what comes with the job. The thing is though, that Wigan aside he hasnt really taken any great leaps with any club, even Allardyce has more ticks to his name than Bruce at this moment in time, Id like us to not go with the flavour of the month as we have done in the past and actually go looking for the right appointment.
  4. If this leads to Kinnear going then Im al for it, Id like to steer clear of Brcue - although he's found some fantastic players and done well with Wigan i dont think he has the ability to make strides with this club, Im not sure he could handle the pressure as well becasue i dount he'd get the full backing of the fans straight away. Id like to steer clear of Shearer as well, I think he might galvanise the clubs and the fans in the short term and do well with us initialy, again im not sure if he has the ability to take us too far. Id rather take Martinez or Mowbray over Shearer.
  5. i'm holding out for a hero. til the end of the night, probably. Same here, he's gotta be strong, he's gotta be fast.
  6. Is anyone else clinging to miniscule possilibilty that theres been a transfer that hasnt been concluded yet? I am.
  7. Wow, should i give it up now or wait till summer like i said i would? Fuck me, that was a poor window, just needed one big signing away i think.
  8. He's the one who's been getting the most loan experience - id love for him to step up, would be absolute class if we went an replaced one keeper with potentially a better one. (Based on nothing)
  9. But then again if your "emotional contentment" is revolved around ambition and winning trophies then he's 5 years too late with all this - in my eyes he's decided to go before the ships sunkbecasue he doesnt want to be tarnished. Ambition isnt something which you develop a craving for, your either are or arent.
  10. Said he was hoping for 2 players and said in an earlier quote that he had a big list a midfilders, so i no strikers coming our way, although you usually get a random player who becomes availabe at the last minute. Fingers crossed.
  11. Not overly bothered to be honest, good keeper, has put in a good shift for the the club and has moved on. We're not significantly weaker by his loss, hopefully the money will be spent well, we could have a more influential outfield player through the sale of Shay, which is what we're crying out for (as well as a good manager).
  12. Darren Bent would be a fantasitc signing with the way we're playing, couldnt think of a player more suited to our predicament than him. Can lead the line of his own, him and Martins up front would be sexual chocolate.
  13. I dont know if we have to be honest - Zogs got the talent to go far, Taylor hasnt. And £6m is a small price to pay for someone who's got a potenitally big future. He hasn't got the talent to go far though, which has been my point all along. He might think he has, but he's nowhere near as good as he thinks he is. What makes you think he hasnt got the talent? Where exactly is the shortage of talent? He's a good player who hasnt had the environemtn to kick on and be developed like he should of been. There isnt a single attacking player in the world who could thrive in the teams we've put out in the past 5 years. In a good stable side, Zog will be fantastic, just have to look at Milner to see how much influential a stable side can be on a players performances. Zog's problem is that he's not as good as he is talented.
  14. I dont know if we have to be honest - Zogs got the talent to go far, Taylor hasnt. And £6m is a small price to pay for someone who's got a potenitally big future.
  15. Happen to think thisis the worst game he could of possilby come back for - if the worse happens then he's back out in the cold all over again and it starts again.
  16. Owen without a shadow of a doubt, feel bad for him because he couldnt help his injuries and the ill feeling after those injuries never faded. Will be alot of resentment to him. I think a lot of it is an inferiortiy complex from the fans.
  17. show that I'm wrong ? Who do you think we should sign? Who do you think we should be aiming for? Charles N'Zogbia, Shay Given and Michael Owen. And a few more of equal calibre. Oh you mean players of the same calibre as Bellamy, Woodgate and Luque? Who would like to see the club sign? Who do you think we should be aiming for?
  18. show that I'm wrong ? Who do you think we should sign? Who do you think we should be aiming for?
  19. Yer but you need some, who the fuck else has pace in our team besides Martins and Nzogbia? If we sell him we will regret it badly. And lets be honest, Wigan are twice the team we are at the minute. nailed on and sad to see. However, I'm sure one or two people will continue to make excuses for Ashley. The ironic thing is that most people on here scoffed at Steve Bruce as NUFC manager, including myself, but things have stooped so low that he is taking one of our best players to a team like Wigan. Jesus fucking titty wept Yep N'Zogbia has only been unhappy and whinging since Ashley arrived. Isn't it about time you moved on, took the posters of Freddy down and got on with your life? He has gone now, I know its hard but with time you will get over it. truth hurts. I'm not really pleased for you if you have posters of Mike Ashley hanging up somewhere. What a pathetic comment. Meanwhile I'm still waiting for some indication that the fat bastard has any desire whatsoever of at least matching the european qualifications of his predecessors, despite them being the worst board thats ever ran a club anywhere and therefore anyone at all who took over would automatically be better Which players would you like to see at the club? Whih player do you think we should be aiming for?
  20. Crikey, are the tides turning a little?
  21. Deep down Im a little bit gutted - he's the most talented youngsters we've had at the club for a number of years(which isnt saying much) and he has the ability to go round players, theres not many people in the league that can do that, its sometihng that was depserate to be harnessed. I'm desperately hoping he flops and doesnt go on to become a great player becasue that would make it worse. Unforuntualtey his attitude stinks though and we can do without players like him, especially when they arent stepping up to the plate, SBR said that Zoggy was one of the most naturally talented youngsters he's ever seen its a shame he didnt have the nvironemnt to thrive, although to be fair we can say that for most of the players in the past 5 years.
  22. You're not Bob Murray are you, he knew all about accounts. No I'm not. I think even Bob Murray would give up trying to explain the clubs finances to you though. he doesn't have to explain anything other than the success his club had when he ran it. Your talking about accounts, and I'm giving you a very successful accountant. If you think you know better than him how to run a football club........then again, you still back this DOF bollocks don't you , so you're detached from reality in both directions. Yes, that's exactly how it works, he was an accountant and since his club didn't get up to much that explains all you need to know. Just keep on borrowing a spending while avoiding answering all questions about where the moneys coming from is the way eh, Stevie. And I'm the one supposed to be detached from reality. so yo think that because Bob Murray did a good job for his club do you, matthew lad ? I suppose you do have an extra motivation here, other than being unable to admit your DOF bollocks has been shown up for what it is, and this is that your man Mike will be responsible for us playing in your local area of Bristol soon. Care to tell us when Arsenal and Liverpool are going bust, and why their supporters are so unhappy these days Arsenal are in very real danger of struglling financially, I imaigine they're in a posiiton to spend should the worse happen becasue they have been managed financially and not spent huge amounts. Liverpool on the other hand are a team waiting to collapse. so they have been badly run for years, decades even ? Noone is saying we've been run badly for decades, more so the past 5 years, the years that have been most releavnt to our present. They will be is they sack Wenger for failing to qualify, appoint Souness then give him huge amounts to spend allowing him to add to the wage bill, then sacking him and appointing Roder and wasting money on players that arent vital then sacking him and appointing Allardyce....lets see what the fans think of their glorious past if that were to happen. And lets see the financial mess that they get into for failing to qulaify for the CL over and over again.
  23. Have we been linked with a single left back? Genuinely confused as to why, after all the huff and puff about this position that nothing, that nothing seems to be happening?
  24. This could be a good move for us - if Man City agree with Shay then they know they have there player, other than the price and with there number 1 target on board im sure they'll succumb to a decent compromise. You don't negotiate deals in real life do you? Not yet. Never realised the trade of human workers was part of real life, who knows what the protocol is? I'm pretty confident you dont, all i know is that Man C know they have there man, knowing its a matter of price we dont have budge on our demands they're more likley to budge with theres, they know the offer is derogatory and the later it gets the more tempting the deal will be. Either that or they agree terms with Shay, and stick to there £5m offer which woulod be pointless. By letting him talk, they can have one part of the transfer sorted. The alternative is that they dont agree a price with us, they dont get chance to speak to shay and they have 24hours to find a keeper as good as shay for the simlar prices (baring in mind very very few clubs will sell there first choice with 24 hours to go).
