It shouldn't be about the refs, but unfortunately it is, I love all those things you mentioned and they should have got us the win and would have were it not for an absolutely insipid display by Madley, that's when it becomes about the ref because we were good enough to win and should have all things being equal.

There's no devils advocate here, you can't defend the speed that Chalobah bundled into Gordon, it was wild, uncontrolled and the intent was to stop Gordon, not gain control of the ball, the ref got it wrong and VAR were too cowardly to overturn it, they get that pen at the other end, I have zero doubts of that, it was daylight robbery. I'm still absolutely seething. The whole refereeing performance today was an absolute joke, but that was the pinnacle of Madley's inept display and hefty influence on the result.

I will miss hate watching him and revelling in the schadenfreude of his form, however there is always the risk of him finding a purple patch with a run of games so perhaps this injury has come at a decent time.
