We punch above our weight because of what Howe has done, but without good squad depth and continously upgrading to ensure competition is fierce, things can go stale and we stop punching about weight. The Miggy purple patch, stop gap signing Burn being ever present, Murphy's great contributions, Krafths turnaround or the transformation of Joelinton - it's all down to Eddie, but it's not sustainable for top 4. At some point quality that doesn't need Eddie coaching needs to be ready on the bench or rotating with existing high quality players.

There easily could (and probably will) be another winning run that keeps us in it. Problem is it all hinges on Isak. If he's injured forget it. We're mid table side without him. Even with Isak on pitch we have to get him the ball to him in front of goal - but problem here is our depth is woeful and some of our main starters for last few years are punching well above their level. We knew it top 4 season, we saw it last season and we seen it this season. On our day we can beat anyone - but consistency season to season needs squad depth in quality, partly to keep status quo on their toes but you have to have a plan B either in tactics or personell. Last game against Arsenal aside, we're incredibly predictable in all areas of line up and how we will play. This season teams have shown they can adapt to it so we end up very streaky then inconsistent.

Imagine another Isak/Bruno/Tonali level player found as a gem like this. Would be immense. Really hope we get lucky. Excellent scouting and buying them before they are a mega price has to be way to go while PSR rules as they are.

Interesting to see Eddie do something slightly different. It makes sense. We don't need to score, but we definitely don't want them to score. Arsenal must chase the game, there's a plenty of threat in our counter to punish Arsenal from over committing. I expected Eddie to be on front foot and usual formation, but plenty of us bemoan he only plays one way a lot. Tactically I'm backing his 5 at back and counter attack strategy here. If we attack we give a desperate Arsenal a chance to hurt us when stretched. They just score 5 past City, so will be hungry for attacking us. The worst case scenario of Arsenal scoring 2 then it's a simple sub of one of the CBs to have us back to our typical shape. Hopefully none of it matters and Arsenal fuck off back home empty handed. Roll on the final.
