Great Players Don't Necessarily Make Good Managers
sugoinufc replied to Crumpy Gunt's topic in Football
I think this is the most positive thing that have happened under Ashleys regime! i agree on all the attributes you mention! Alan and the players need to work hard and fight to avoid the relegation....don´t have to entertain us! If he continues after the summer (which he must) then he should start to practice the style of play he prefers! But often managers...especially at this club never gets to the point where they have a squad which they fully picked themself. Hopefully we will see alan get to that point....which would take some years! This is hopefully long term.....and i personally dont expect or demand we play entertaining football from start of next season...im happy as long as there is some vision, thinking of signings and concept! I think the most important think is to develop a concept from start of next season and stick by it. Dont think of what players we have a the beginning of the season.....adjust the squad as much as possible during each window....im buy players he believe suits the concept! Be loyal to your concept so all the players knows their role.....this goes for the reserves and youth team as well! -
Great Players Don't Necessarily Make Good Managers

im sure that shearer is gonna practice a bit more "modern" and fascinating style of football then souness! alan has watched alot of games during his job for skysports....he is fully updated! He has played under Keegan and robson and he knows what kind of style we like to see Nufc practice. He has everything it takes to do a good job.....i personally believe in him.....hope he doesn´t fail! But again he can´t be judge after 8 games....unless he gets tactics totally wrong and can´t seem to motivate the players in the relegation battle! He needs 3 years to develop the squad and style he wants.....and time to develop into a good manager! Hopefully we dont panic after some bad results and stick with him for a long long time.....if he wants it himself? -
I think this is great news! I hope shearer will be our manager for many years to come. If we should go down, i personally hope he will continue as our manager! A year in the championship will definitely tell us what his potential as a manager is. Also very happy to hear wise leave....hopefully this is an indication that shearer knows the exactly set-up he wants....he must have called for some changes before taking the job. Whatever style of football we play in the next 8 matches it shouldn´t be used to judge shearer´s managerial abilities....all i hope is that he manage to motivate the players so that they deliver a good fight in the relegation battle. This is no time tactical experiments! Its all about fight, fight and more fight! We have to remember that our squad is in the worst condition for many many years......at least 7-9 players should leave (imo)......im sure Alan can see that as well. I think he will stay no matter how we finish the season.....He needs at least 3 years in charge before he has the squad he wants (i we stay up that is).....only Sir B. has managed to stay that long in recent time.....and that is another reason for all the silly seasons we had! stability[b must be the key word! Hopefully he will turn out to be the newcastle version of a D. Moyes and by time wenger or Sir Alex I believe this could be the turning point for us...even if we should go down!I think ashley knows that this is his last chance and have accepted to go all in on shearer! WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY...I FELL POSITIVE....it should have happened at least a month ago though! imagine a championship side something like this: Harper Beye/ Taylor (Kadar)/Edgar (Tozer)/Enrique Raylor Løvenkrands/ Guthrie/(Vuckic)/Nolan (jonas)/Løvenkrands Raylor Caroll / (Ranger) / Xisco you think our championship could be something like that plus some new faces?
-
Ashley is a c*nt...simple as that! it almost feels like he wants us to go down! How can he have 100% faith in hughton and kinnear (who could easily have another heart-attack, in a stressful job like this) ? There is no logic in anything!! We dont have to be relegated in order to rebuild the club! another thing i been thinking about...i dont no if it is true (since i dont live in england) but it seems like the media/journalists isn´t giving us such a hard time at the moment......funny if they dont since they have every right! ....maybe the situation is beyond anything they imagined as well

Yes, a fiver? Payable via Paypal. wouldn´t mind losing a fiver on that bet!
-
was so happy when signed him....but imo he has failed this season! i still believe he could have a good 2nd season for us...if we against the odds stay up and gets a proper manager! but we also have to remember what team he have played in....not easy being a central defender in a sh.t team....eventhough bassong has managed to look solid! Arsenal´s 3rd goal against us was colo mistake.....wtf was he doing! NOT GOOD ENOUGH.....looked liked he had lost all hope! attitude like that wont save us! If venables or somebody else with a football brain and experience doesn´t come in we are going down. Anyone up for a bet?
-
Ashley is a focking idiot! He is to blame for everything...almost! its not his fault that we had so many injuries...but except from that i believe he is to blame! After Keegan left and until winter he could have found a good manager....but all he can come up with is Kinnear....what a joke. (nobody wanted the job....come on!) Ashley is an amatuer! Actually im almost 100% sure we are going down.....and the sad part is i almost dont care! I cant see a bright future for the club as long we have personel like kinnear, hughton and calderwood in charge! And the reason why i believe we are going down is because the players don´t believe in the future of the club either.....and who can blame them? I know they are professionals....but again they are only humans! There is no proper guidances and right now next season could be the same if ashley doesn´t act and sake kinnear! Normally it is positive when owners stay in the background and let the players and managers do the taking....but ashley have misunderstood this completely....compared to the mess we´re in i find it weird how quiet the boardmembers is? I don´t think we will get more than 9 points (max) from the the last 8 matches....if this is enough i dont know? one thing is for sure, we have to rely on other results coz we´re not gonna avoid the relegation ourselves! ! ! I want rid of 10 players or so and the managers and coaches we have now
-
I think the most important thing to do is get a proper goal scorer in, then a (good) attacking central midfielder, then right winger. Of course if we go down, we could be rebuilding in most positions. could LuaLua play right wing? maybe not from the start but when we are down and need to create chances!
-
Idiot...
-
Shut up, dude! we are a good side and we should have gone through.....maybe we werent better over the 2 matches but we showed heart yesterday....which they didn´t....they deserved to fail! Still weeping but at least we failed with honor! AaB

Perhaps, but I think people are at the stage where panic is the only course of action. Well I wouldn't say that panic is ever the right response. Even if the two managers mentioned - Ketsbaia and Martinez - were willing to come in the present situation and their clubs were willing to release them right now (both long shots), they'd be just as big a risk as sticking with Kinnear, and probably an even greater one. The idea, expressed later in the thread, that things can't possibly get worse really is borne of panic. There has been so much upheaval at the club this season that a further change right now is the last thing we need. ITS NOT PANIC ! I would rather go down if it meant that kinnear would be sacked and someone new came in with the vision and balls to get rid of half the squad. We will never develop under kinnear! We need a need start and that should be asap! Cant remember any matches where kinnear did a ok job with his line up or tactical changes during the match. He dosn´t have a clue! why are ashley so eager to keep a manager with his health record and whos highlight as a manager was controlling the crazy gang 10 years ago? Last time we had a run of decent football was under Robson (and some few matches under keegan last season). Kinnear will never be able to develop an "attractive style" or do what O´neill have done to Villa....especially not with the money he has available! He ain´t good enough....simple as that! if you think we are in trouble now....just wait and see next season, if he stays! WE HAVE PLAYED LIKE SH.T FOR YEARS NOW.....UTTER SH.T ! ! ! kinnear wont change that...NEVER! If we stay up this season....i dont think it will because of his manager skills!

thats why i dont have any hope left....almost! something really weird is going on.....how cant they see the problem?
-
agree with the letter....eventhough some parts of it is a bit silly or naive! I have to say it again! Eventhough we are in a relegation battle i think we should get a new manager and his coaches, if he wants to bring some with him. I dont care if he has a big name or he is young and unproven at this level! NO ONE CAN MAKE IT WORSER THAN OUR CURRENT SITUATION....so i dont see the gamble Im really surprised about Ashley.....he keeps proving again and again what a d.ck he is! Go hire that talented or promising and motivated "young" manager for the next 3-4 years! we need a new image, concept and strategy! I think our players are worried and losing their motivation because the cant see a bright future for this club....at least not the next couple of years! Keeping Kinnear will be the death of newcastle! With skill and luck we could be back in top 8 in a couple of seasons.....but staying with kinnear would get us further away from where we should be! A motivated young manager and young squad will get will be so much more helpful and entertaining than watching "old" highearners like smith, geremi, viduka, cacapa, butt! get rid of all these plus more.....there is still plenty of players with experience in the squad! TAKE ACTION NOW ! ! !
-
This club will never progress under the management of kinnear and his assistents! it will only go one way from here...and thats DOWN if ashley cant see that he must be the biggest idiot on the planet! We are a joke.....one fat joke....simple as that! its almost like i can understand the players doesn´t seem to give a f...! their future at this club doesn´t seem promising! dont believe kinnear inspires any of the players!

caroll ? I forgot about him TBH its easy to forget him tbf -
1. That's a load of s***. 2. That's a load of absolute s***. It's not - Firstly he's scored sixth goals this season; that's half a dozen and some of them haven't even been stormers. Secondly he's played seven games less this season than permacrock Owen. Feel free to expand your argument though and prove me wrong though. has a different partner every match (almost). no delivery and plays in a s... team! what do you expect? So has Owen, i'm sure he wasn't expecting to play alongside Andy Carroll this season. Seriously, this "Martins is better than Owen is better than Martins is better than Owen" argument is tiresome. You can only go on who does their job the best and Owen does just that. hard to say whos best of the two......i just believe martins is more important to keep here than owen when you think of.....age, injuries and ambition

1. That's a load of s***. 2. That's a load of absolute s***. This "Martins only scores screamers and hardly any of them" business is particularly tiresome. He scores tap-ins, he scores headers, he scores typical centre forward's goals and yes, he scores the odd brilliant long ranger. It's almost as if that goal at Spurs has gone down on his record as a bad thing - only at NUFC. Not saying he doesn't score simple goals, he just doesn't do it enough if he wants to be considered a top class striker. His ability in front of goal isn't one of his main problems - his lack of pace and a footballing brain are. That's me done with this one. Played. Lack of pace go to bed and sleep it off.....your rampling!

who is our best striker then....you didn´t answer? martins isn´t as injured as owen either! are you drunk?
-
The only strikers i would keep would be Martins and Loven. Carroll - is a championship striker imo and Xisco - if he was good would of played more games considering the awful amount of injuries to our strikers. Personally I think our front line is complete dirge barring Owen. We're going to be in this situation next season if wre stay up and none of the other strikers at the club are capable of scoring enough goals to keep us up. goalscoring strikers are important! but its not our strikers fault we are in this mess. Ok, they have been injuried a lot .....which means we haven´t had any consistency on top. For me the problem is our midfield which dosen´t provide anything for the strikers. Our midfield isn´t helping our ok defence either! Goalscoring strikers are important that's why we need to get rid of Carroll and Xisco, Owen doesn't offer much for his salary and the amount of games he plays in a year. Martins is the only one who can create something out of nothing and scares defenders martins is our best striker, for sure! owen i wouldn´t mind staying if he accept a cut in wages. but if he leaves with viduka and 1 or 2 more strikers we need to buy. Agree we could use a quality striker.....personally i wouldn´t mind bendtner to partner martins or someone else who can create something on his own. all i want is to sort out our midfield first!
