From what I recall he was used mostly as a sitting player for Pardew as well. It used to really frustrate me seeing him playing behind Tiote in a lot of the games. Whether he was told to sit back or just does it naturally I don't know, but that's where he usually ended up. I'm thinking of his last few months here. Wasn't he playing as some sort of number 10 with Anita and Tiote playing in midfield? I always felt that was his most effective role.

I actually think he excels when he's the big fish in the small pond. He hasn't made waves at PSG playing under Blanc nor France with Deschamps. They're apparently good managers. Play Cabaye in that advanced position like Pards did from Sep-Jan and Cabaye will do the business. That's where he seems to like to play. Being the main man.

They are but under McClaren they looked promising. Cattermole at least. Can't remember much of Morrison.

He signed some good players for Boro - Viduka, Hasslebaink, Mendieta, Yakubu, Zenden. I think Juninho, too. A little encouraging going through his stats. His losing ratio isn't that bad especially compared to Pardew who lost more games than he won. If you're not going to win, at least draw. Also responsible for Downing, Cattermole and James Morrison's debuts, so he can develop youth. I'm trying to be optimistic. Hopefully it doesn't all go wrong.

If it is McClaren I'll take solace to the fact he's won the League cup, a Dutch League and got to a European cup final. He at least he has it in him, right? But anytime we've hired coaches who have won trophies, they end up failing spectacularly like Gullit, Dalglish and Souness. Still would much prefer Viera. Have a feeling we'll reject him and he'll do well at whatever team he ends up with.

Well he's got to stay on his feet during shoulder to shoulders. I hope by next season he has gotten used to the physicality of this league.

He does need to bulk up, though. And I know Pardew said that and tbh he's right. The amount of times he was shoved off the ball was ridiculous.
