Left wing is fairly stacked tbf. You’ve got Isak, ASM, Joelinton, Gordon and even Anderson or Murphy could be called upon if necessary.
-
I hate this take, if he was Italian, Dutch or whatever he’d get way less hate; of course English tax is a thing but being proven in by far the best league in the world comes with a hefty price-tag. He’s a very good player and is very versatile tactically.
-
Budget and needing cover in multiple positions I’m assuming?
-
@KaKaThat’s quite a lot tbf, especially for a first offer that will likely be rebuffed.
-
They’d ask ridiculous money for him, unfortunately.
-
Sorry. Poorly worded post. The German journalist said that- no quotes from DS himself.
-
For anyone who didn’t want Maddison due to him apparently preferring Spurs; Big Dom- according to a German journalist- says he would choose Liverpool over Newcastle after talks with his representatives.
-
He’s going there, like. Absolutely perfect for them. We won’t pay the release clause. I feel like we’ll end up in a worse position squad-wise relative to our competitors this season.
-
Others seem to disagree so I’ll concede I’m probably wrong about how he plays . The times I’ve seen him he’s just looked like a fast, one footed winger that cuts in from the right. Still stand by what I said about him not having the creativity or class we need in that position though, although -as others have pointed out- he’s seemingly not an out and out winger.
-
He’s a headless chicken type pacy winger with a high work rate. Kinda similar; but my point was he’s not got that nous/creativity/vision or whatever that we’re desperately lacking in the final third.
-
I’m sure there’s a lot to work with there tbf; I’d just prefer someone with a bit more nous and intelligence to their game. We already have Almiron and Murphy who are similar in play-style to him.
-
Fair enough. Whenever I’ve seen him he hasn’t stood out; pacy wingers with poor decision-making, end product and a lack of footballing brain are ten a penny these days. He wouldn’t represent a significant upgrade on Almiron for me.
-
Being 100% right about everything is a high bar to set for just some dude on twitter tbf.
-
He’s also painfully average in a weak league where talents don’t always work out in the PL.
-
Fair enough. I don’t know enough about our finances or Ffp regulations to say. I’m just quoting a few articles I read and that Fourfourtwo YouTube vid.
-
Not true. Most estimates say around 75-100m ish is the limit for this year.

James Maddison (now playing for Tottenham Hotspur)

Waste? You’d struggle to get a better player for double that, you mentalist -
I’d hate to miss out on him but 60m is a lot to spend when you’ve got 2, maybe 3 positions to fill as well. Can’t see us spending too much more than 100m if reports that we’re right at the FFP limit are accurate.
-
In the Bundesliga highlight shows I watch, he regularly gets touted as the next world-class Dutch talent. From the little I’ve seen he’s been really good, unfortunately.
-
Shame. 25m for him is very good business.
-
Have they bought Kulusevski yet?
-
I really hope they keep Kane and he leaves on a free next season. While he’s obviously world class he doesn’t fit in with Angie’s high-intensity, high-pressing play style (AP sets teams up similar to Howe’s Newcastle). That’ll mean they won’t be able to do exactly what their coach wants them to do tactically, as Kane is undroppable for them. Also means Levy’s stubbornness has fucked them over financially and they have to replace Kane with money from their own coffers.

If ASM is staying (which is great imo) then you also have Gordon who’s decent, arguably better, on the right as well tbf.
