Not worthy of a thread - 2018 FIFA World Cup edition

Not really as they're not in the same bid group, so it's a bit redundant claiming it'd be a joke if they got it when they're not up against the same competition. I'm aware they're not bidding against one another. Not sure how it's "redundant" either. Just commenting in general - England '66, USA '94, and Korea/Japan '02. Which of those three should get its next turn first? -

Hope the USA wins in 2022 since there would be games 30 minutes from my house, but it's a bit of a joke if the US or Korea/Japan get another World Cup before England does. -
What an absurd inference. Seriously. He's clearly cheaper than Given, so they can save some money. It's a good sign as they obviously feel their not losing much quality by sticking with Forster.
-
We'd be in the Championship right now though, and in much more of a mess than any other time during the last 3 years. Yup. As of now, going down was probably better than staying up.

I used to feel that way. However, I'm sick of teams not taking it seriously until the semifinal/final. If Man United played the same team that beat Blackburn then they most likely would have won tonight. It's their choice not to of course, but I hate when they field a weak team and still get to Wembley. Hoping for a Villa/Birmingham v. West Ham final or something similar. It wasn't that weak, actually a strong side. They sat van der Sar, Evra, Vidic, Ferdinand, Nani, Berbatov, and Rooney. How is that a strong side?

We probably would have lost to Wigan.

Not the best place for this, but is Forster definitely better than Krul? Never seen Forster.
-
At this rate he's going to cost a small fortune next season.

Johnny Evans.

What happened to Moses?
-
Was just going to say - if West Ham go down we should definitely try for Obinna. Has impressed me the few times I've seen him this season.

How can it possibly be a terrible decision? And why does it matter that it takes forever? It did take awhile, but isn't it better that they get it right? What should they have done?

I don't understand why Spain/Portugal are allowed a joint bid. During the bidding for 2010 the Committee decided it would not allow co-hosts. I can't stand how they just make up rules based on how it suits them. -
Not a chance, if he even comes close to being consistent over the next year or two he will be bought by a bigger team. Sick of this to be honest. Sure, Ashley could decide to cash-in in a couple years time (or will be forced to if we go down), but barring that it's far from set in stone he'll leave. It's not as if he's counting the days until he gets to play for his dream club - he's already doing it and seems to be loving every minute of it. The club has come a long way in the last 15 months and he's a big reason why. Plenty of people on here will say "yeah, but he'll want to win trophies." Carroll will dream of leading Newcastle to glory at Wembley and given his confident demeanor he's likely to think he's capable of doing it. I'm sure he's never pictured himself raising a trophy for Manchester City, but I can bet you he's thought of doing it while wearing the #9 shirt for Newcastle United. Also, as long as Newcastle's in the PL then he will have every opportunity to play for England, so that's not an issue. Last season went better than most expected. This season to date is better than expected. Maybe we push through to the end and finish mid-table. Maybe we make a couple more good signings next summer. Maybe we finish in the top-half next season. Who the hell knows, but a little optimism goes a long way.

Would love a VDV hat trick plus a straight red for a Liverpool player so they miss our match. Torres, Kuyt, Skrtel or Carragher preferably.

So he's good enough to deputise for Arsenal but not for us. Eh? By all accounts he did very well at Arsenal so i've no doubt he'll be good enough for a newly promoted team By which accounts? Winning games - not according to reality. How about goals per game? Ooops wrong again - they leaked over 2 goals per game with him in the side as opposed to a shade over 1 per game before him. Good enough for a promoted team. Good call - with the talent around him at Arsenal they had there worst patch of the season when he was in the side. So with the talent on display at Newcastle right now he will really thrive. Are you serious? I thought Sol did well for Arsenal last season? And he's looked good in his appearances for us (Man City, Bolton). He did. Not sure why Canuck is being so critical. In two of the three PL losses at the end of the season he was paired with Silvestre and in front of average at best keepers. Not sure why you're singling out Campbell for the poor finish. By most accounts he was one of their better players.

Ashley could take a huge step towards redemption by opening his wallet for A. Johnson. Never going to happen though. He's probably on some of the lowest wages at Man City and it's still probably more than we would consider paying.
-
Did people really just boo? Unreal.
-
Agreed. Yup...don't understand it.
-
Great ball from Nani. They're gonna win this aren't they?
-
Why didn't Krul go to ground to make the save? Just terrible all around.

If you're really desperate you can pay $15/month and watch on foxsoccer.tv. Fuck.
