I'm struggling to see peoples reason for debate here. From what i've read (which isn't everything), no-one has said he is s*** or even average for that matter. I think we all accept he is a talented footballer. All people are saying is that he needs to get his head up and play it simple a bit more often, yet the majority jump to his defence about not being sharp enough. Whilst I understand that this is a reason for lack of fitness, this isn't a reason that effects the brain. To look up and notice your team mates and/or the opposition is not something that is effected by a broken leg. Also, it's just constructive criticism - yet people make it out that it's like Ben Arfa is above any form of criticism because of his talent. Well I can only remember one "superb" thing he's done for us so far and that was his goal vs Everton. He has to prove himself in Black and White for me to class him as a fan favourite, not just our world class injured man. Because he's some what of a favourite people make countless excuses - which I could understand for someone like Shearer towards his end here, but for Hatem, he has more to do and I actually really think he will tonight.

If you think this then you don't understand the role Ben Arfa is playing. I understand perfectly. It's no excuse though - you play pretty football and run at people in the final third, not the centre of the park - that's where you keep it simple. Depends on the situation really, but I do agree in general. However, your comments seemed to imply that he had to 'keep things simple' all over the pitch, which was why I strongly disagreed. Fair dues. I'm not a Hatem hater like ftr - just think he needs to prove himself to us still. We know he's talented, but he's not flawless.

Looking lively doesn't make you a good footballer, or mean you performed well. A chef can cook 50 meals in an hour but it doesn't mean they're tasty. No it certainly doesn't, but an absolute crap performance does make you the scapegoat sometimes. Ben Arfa has been out for a 1 year and a bit more, and has the intelligence at least to when he's not performing well help the ball movement on the field. In 45mins he was closer to scoring than Obertan has in 7-8 games. He's in more of a sausage role to do so. Angel Gabriel is a provider - even though he hasn't really provided. Ben Arfa lost the ball in dangerous areas yesterday, and against a better side it would have cost us. He's also (understandably) less effective in defensive situations. Obertan may be average/shit but he's useful when we don't have the ball. Ben Arfa cannot do owt wrong for a lot of people, it's canny stupid tbh.
