The Leazes corner became the singing section for two reasons. The first was that the away fans who were put in the corner made a massive amount of noise and it was thought that the acoustics were better in the corner. That's probably right as the corner has two walls for the sound to bounce off and it's thrown towards the pitch. The other reason was to put the away fans at the end of the Leazes which meant that we had less empty seats due to segregation. That was a good move by the club and it wasn't Ashley who made the decision, it was the Chairman at the time. Without trying to blow 'our' own trumpets the 'Ultras' did their upmost to obtain a singing section. Two blocks, three-quarter full next to the away fans led to us taking a full portfolio or whatever you want to call it to the clubs officials, asking for a singing section - a certain Russell Cushion (?) was who we took it to. A year later the singing section was introduced and the re-jigging of sections of the ground began. They obviously recognised the need for the atmosphere to change and addressed it. Fair enough, it would be better in the lower parts of the ground - but as many 'East Standians' would put it who would want thousands of Charvas singing cringeworthy s**** next to the pitch. (Or to put it my way, why would the club want to charge £5 less than what they could charge people for sitting/standing in that section of the ground.) The whole ground is fast becoming more positive, and the Leazes Corner is respected by most imo. (Which isn't the Ultras because they just make a tiny minority of it). But those interested in making a vocal backing have fast gone to the heavens and it's been the best decision the board have made in the last 2 or 3 years. I must admit, I get pissed off with the attitude of Level 7 being full of kiddy charvas with little sense or wit, simply because a lot of people who say that have probably never experienced it before. Then again, I would be pissed off thinking I paid £1,000 for a season ticket and told I was a s*** fan because I barely sang. In reality, that is football these days and we should all learn to get along. We all support the same team, whether it be financially or vocally. Two final things to consider though, those who sit in the East Stand have probably been there, done that and done all the vocal s****, relegations and promotions. BUT - those in Level 7 might be there one day - you can't exactly hold our f***ing age against us, because believe me when I say that at least 90% of that lot up there will be there in 30years time, just like the elder lot in the East Stand, so years of support is irrelevant. Also, those in Level 7, I would say are the vast majority of our away contingency, so while a lot of us sit back saying our fans are great they took 6,000 to Barnsley and basically made it their own, please remember where these are likely to be sat at home games. All an opinion like...but I'm trying to balance things out here. I’d agree that it’s unfair to brand LC as some kind of chav haven that’s devoid of wit, and I don’t think anyone holds the age of the supporters up there against them. It only becomes an issue when ‘older’ fans start getting branded s*** supporters by somebody who has only been turning up for few years - as opposed to few decades. I’m not at all convinced that LC makes up the majority of our away support either – it only holds 3000 and there were 7000 at Barnsley for a start. I don’t want this to be fight though. I just think some of the LC regulars need to think a bit about why there’s more singing in a singing section and cut out the everybody else is s*** supporters nonsense. Reflect on the role they play as part of the support as whole; be a little bit less self-absorbed. In the same way a small minority of posters on here can give a bad impression of the LC, the LC corner can in turn create a bad impression of the SJP faithful. By default the LC has been handed a position of responsibility, and it’ll all end in tears if they fail to understand this. The atmosphere has been more positive this season, but so have results so it’s hard to draw any conclusions about how effective the LC has been in helping generate a better atmosphere. It was there last season and the atmosphere was largely crap. Time will tell if the creation of the LC has been a success. There’s been too much crap over the last few years to really tell what effect it has had. To be fair, the whole who called who first thing is a matter of opinion and something I'll never agree with you. In my opinion the rest of the ground started it about Level 7 and as a previous Season Ticket holder in the middle tier of the Leazes end, I have had personal experience of the discontent for people not only going up there to sing their hearts out but for people who want to stand on their own in the middle of tea stand and sing (not for the whole game purely just for when a song is being sang, might I add.)

In Newcastle's fair city, where the girls are so pretty I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Mallone As she pushed her wheelbarrow from Walker to Jarrow Singing clap clap etc. Geordies. We should really get that one going again, you could have the chorus going on for ages and ages just repeating it. Alive, alive ohhhhh Alive, alive ohhhhh etc Last time I sang it everyone looked at me like I was an idiot. They thought it was an Irish song or something...

Either way it was as i remembered, bloody awful on and off the pitch It probably was, but I'd take that atmosphere over the deafeningly silent ones. Sometimes, people have such a negative attitude towards people that want to sing and create atmosphere, that I've enjoyed games with lots of negative atmosphere. At least there's passion. Ironically, one of the most impressive recent atmospheres was the hammering by Liverpool the following season when there was barely any negativity and plenty of positive singing throughout the majority of the game. To be honest, if I'd have been a Liverpool fan, I'd have left that game slightly embarrassed at being outsung. I remember this well, the Leazes End was rocking simply out of defiance, and it made me feel incredibly proud.

I am a massive fan of Capello thus far like.

Under the thumb...

It's canny funny...we owner your town at 3, etc, etc. Aye - maybe because all of us were at work you cunts. Besides, we don't need to prove how hard we are...nevertheless, smashing up bars where not many Toon fans drink and generally being cunts everywhere other than the Bigg Market makes you solid like. Would have loved to see them being cocks near Kiss, etc...

I pointed this out a week ago and was laughed at. You any good with Photoshop? You're avatar is screaming out for a half naked woman bending over to be added to it.

Its very hypocritical to say Level 7 lads/lasses have a 'holier-than-thou' attitude when those criticising us of having this very attitude call us the stupid charva kids in Level 7. Whilst there is undoubtedly a charva element up there there is also a lot of young lads and lasses who are perfectly normal and passionate about singing for their team. I'd be the first to admit "who are you" and s*** like that is utter bollocks, but when you're being pro-Newcastle for 90% of the game (regardless of whether the rest of the ground can hear it) I think it's perfectly fine for any sort of bating of the away fans for the other 10%. Without winding away fans up their wouldn't be as much of an atmosphere, it's the same in every football ground in the UK. 3 or 4 new songs have been introduced as of late, and even some of the old ones have had a good airing, yet people still complain that the new ones are s*** even if they are fairly good songs. You really can't win to be honest.
-
Thats actually been done a few times, first time round slow then the second fast.
-
Agreed. It pisses me off when people complain about the songs being sung. Fair enough it got repetitive but it's a new song. The same happened with "We're Newcastle and we're gonna win the league" it's only sang so much during one game so that it gets out there and people here it. Once it's heard it can be mixed with other songs. The afore mentioned song did that last night it wasn't sang much just every now and then. The new Ashley one will be mixed with others now too...then a new song will be sang...

Bitter - John Smiths style.

You f***ing mad? He's our best defender. Eh ehm, Steven Taylor.

Agreed! Superb up in Level 7 last night. It was just one of those nights that come around every once in a while. Great performance on the pitch and excellent in the stands as well. Heard about all the trouble with the Cardiff fans but I was in the town from 4 and went to several different pubs and hardly even seen a Welshman when I was expecting them to be all over the place. I walked under the Leazes End and someone was being treated by some Police and they were all singing and gesticulating. There was loads of Police in the Bigg Market last night too when we ventured up for a pizza at the end of the night. I reckon there wasn't as much trouble as people were expecting like, I thought it was gunna be a warzone last night the way the match went, etc. However, since we wankered them on and off the pitch during that 90minutes it turned their enthusiasm down a bit.
-
I know, mine too. He isn't "probably", he is "definitely" better than Mourinho.
-
We're Newcastle and we're gunna win the league! We don't care about Ashley, he don't care about me, all we care about - is NUFC. What the fucking hell is that?!? (Welsh flag) etc, etc. Last night was the exact reason I moved to Level7...fan-dabbie-dozy. The Toon were quality last night too, some of the goals were quality and we actually pissed it. If the rumours about all the violence before and after the game are true, then match gave them a proper Geordie "welcome".
-
I actually believe it had a massive effect last night. Everyone was buzzing for the game and that transferred onto the pitch.
-
I loved it - we gave them a proper Geordie "Welcome".
-
Mint song. It's not necessarily anti-Ashley, it's quite pro-NUFC if anything.
-
Tomorrow will be fucking mint.

I think it's ridiculous how much Hughton's tactics are being criticised tbh. I laughed at the naivety of it before, but it really does seem like a lot of people think it's as simple as putting (what they think is) the best 11 players on the pitch at the same time all the time. This gives absolutely no consideration to the fact that the manager has far more information about the players to go on than we do. He sees how they perform in training, no doubt trying different formations, he gets fitness reports on them, he should even give consideration to their mental state and what's going on in their personal life. He also has to try and balance playing the best team every week with rotating things to make sure the same players don't wear themselves out over a long season and that fringe players are not frozen out. We've got 5 games in 16 days coming up next, but I guess that won't come into the equation when people convince themselves the 11 players they put in a formation on a message board would have played beautiful flowing football and won every game 4-0. The fact is Hughton has very limited options to change things in any significant way as the players we have are limited in their ability. We've been very limited in terms of numbers in wide players, and in central midfield they are all much of a muchness except that Nolan has a knack of scoring goals. The players are good enough to get results in this league in the style we've been playing, but no way in the world is it going to be pretty no matter who plays or how they line up, and if we did try to change it there's absolutely no guarantee that "better" football would even maintain the same level of results let alone improve them. Here's some of my favourites from the crap that comes out: "He'll never drop Butt" changed immediately to "he'll never drop Smith/Nolan" once he did in fact drop Butt. I'm not sure who exactly is supposed to play in midfield once we drop Butt, Nolan and Smith. Guthrie and Vuckic I suppose, even though Guthrie's been equally poor when played central and hardly anyone's seen anything of Vuckic so he obviously "must be better". Lovenkrands dad died and because soon after he played one game and scored, that's all gone away and he should be playing week in week out again without a care in the world. "Why didn't he play <insert recently or even currently injured player>?" which of course would turn into "Why did he play <insert previously injured player> rushing him back too soon?" if any player who's been injured in the last month gets injured again. "When player X came on he changed the game". Of course this is used not as a compliment of a good substitution that a player was saved to be fresh coming on against a tired defence/midfield, but as a criticism that the player should have played from the start (where he may well have been far less effective pacing himself for a full game and up against a fresh defence). I swear even if Wenger or Ferguson were manager half of you would be criticising their tactics week in week out. Thanks UV it is great post this.... Agreed.

Any Defender is only as good as the unit he's in tbf. I think that's the best answer.

Even though I said I'd rather have Colo in this thread due to Woodgate's injuries did you even watch him when he played here? Aye. I guess i'm just working more on recent memory though. Obviously it doesn't help when Woodgate was never fit too like.
