  1. Don't get me wrong, I'll be reading it all day at work, but I was emphasising there are lots of made up mackem stories on it. Or to put it another way, I don't want it to happen, therefore I don't believe it. Then again, imagine the front line of Heskey and Nolan. That's got goals written all over it.
  2. From the BBC From Neil Atkin, via text: "Don't know if this is good or bad for the Toon but I've just drove past their training ground only to see Emile Heskey chatting to Chris Hughton!" You're the third person who has said that. Just saying... Don't believe it personally, BBC page is full of crap on Deadline day.
  3. It's lovely to see for once. The team spirit is definitley there for the first time since Bobby's lot and KK's Mk1. While i remember, at the first open training session back in July 2008, Bez (who was the host on the mic) was talking to KK during the session, and KK said 'listen Bez, what can you hear?' Bez replied 'well nothing'. KK then was saying exactly, this team has no banter, they never talk they just train mostly in silence. Bez agreed, and they were discussing how that banter and friendship helped massively towards promotion and finishing 3rd in the first season. I'm not saying for one second we're going to get anywhere near that, but it does seem that it helps, so far. Really enjoying the team spirit atm Bez has just been on Talksport talking about the visible team spirit in the current team. Pointing out that Nolan and Smith are a big part of that.
  4. It's better than standing there without his face, although that might put forwards off.
  5. Cheers Chris. Love reading this thread, helps us non-locals keep abreast of developing kids at the club. A big thank you to all who contribute in it.
  6. While I’m not a big fan of the pundits, they have a point when they talk about typical Arsenal (all style and no cutting edge), because Arsenal haven’t won anything in years. Winning matters and Spain have won it all. The pundits have always made it clear they enjoy the way Arsenal play, but over time, when asked to analyse the Arsenal team, they always talk about how Arsenal lack a cutting edge. Over time, it becomes a joke/cliche. Arsene refuses to alter his way, yet it's not his fault, it’s always the opposition being dirty. Regarding the condemnation of the Dutch, one thing I noticed them say was how they felt it was the Dutch game plan to kick the Spanish. Often in the premiership, teams will be physical against Arsenal. If it is over the top, the pundits tend to condemn it, but in the World Cup final, everybody knows it’s the “showcase” of football and Webb wanted to keep 11 v 11. The Dutch knew this and kept going through the back of players. And it wasn’t just Van Bommel and De Jong, the centre halves and Van Persie were at it too. I feel I should mention Kuyt, who I don’t recall making any nasty challenges (though I could be wrong). Kuyt plays a physical game, buy not a dirty one. To me there is a difference.
  7. Ahh. Like I said at work so hadn't seen anything. Cheers for that.
  8. Not strictly a press rumour, and maybe not the right thread, but a bloke I know suggests Ranger is going on loan to Hartlepool. Anyone heard anything, I'm at work so can't spend much time checking. Anyone?
  9. Saw that on the way to Villa Park One was probably a blackbird that had flown into some white paint. Mind, I'm a bit concerned that I can't wear my lucky jumper tonight. I've still got lucky socks but... What is wrong with said jumper? I wore it to Peterborough, dripped burger grease and cider down the front, and it's not been washed yet. Stick in the washer now... Having said that I have no idea how long a jumper would take to dry, I don't own a jumper. A few days in my flat. Wear it wet. Where's your commitment?
  10. He's no worse than some of the defenders currently playing Premier League football evey week. He's not superb but he'll do for the time being. Sort of a tall Andy O'Brien. He'll do ok. He's more or less the same height as O'brien, but he certainly seems to control a football better (ie once in a while). O'Brien could trap a ball with his face better though.
  11. The fact that he won't go back to France because they won't pay him enough suggests to me there's no chance of him re-signing for us. We won't be paying him what he was on last time, or even what he's probably on at Villa.
  12. This. Would you have him back even though he ditched us? I loved him when he was playing for us, but he went down in my estimations when he left cos he thought the grass was greener on the other side. I like to think he was one of the ones who wanted to stay but a decent offer had came in for him him and the club needed the money. I thought he made it clear he wanted to leave when he was kicking off pre-season.
  13. Think it was Nolan if it's the same moment I think you're talking about. I was just on the phone to a friend bitching about Guthrie constantly playing the ball with the outside of his right foot, but at least he had the excuse of being on the left wing, then when Nolan did it with 3 easy ball options I went f***ing ballistic. While I agree wwith others that there is a lack of movement, the fact that these w ankers refuse to play the simple pass to ensure they keep the ball f ucks me off. How so many professional footballers can fail to pass a ball 5 yards or control a pass is beyond me.
  14. How is James Vaughan anymore experienced than Leon Best. He's played a number of games for Everton, but is still essentially a young unproven player with potential.
  15. Wasn't happy with the terms they offered apparently. Southampton fan I work with rates him, but says he likes his money and tends to let his contracts run out.
  16. Nail on the head. Typical NUFC signing these days. Seems we're getting ourselves geared up for a relegations scrap next year. No offence, but this is ridiculous point of view on a number of levels. We aren't a Premiership club, we don't have much money, so we need to make signings of cheap players who have potential to do better than they have before. Obviously when we're in the Championship we can't prepare a team for a top half challenge in the Premiership, for one thing we can't afford to take the risk with the wage bill. Don't agree in the slightest. We will be promoted and that means why should be planning for it now. How many players out of our current squad are good enough for the Premiership - 7 maybe? Now is the time to be buying players good enough to play at that level who need time to gel with the current side - this is when we should be looking for the next Enrique (young, great potential and probably not after silly wages). We don't have much money - who does? We've got the smallest wage bill we've had in years and with some good planning it could be even smaller - that must free up some capital. We've got to plan for the premiership so all of this bollocks about being a championship club is short sighted - we've got one foot back into the Premiership and need to start to act like a big club again - that means investing in players good enough to improve the team immediately. Didn't Enrique cost £6m. That seems a lot to spend when we don't have much money
  17. Surely if there is any truth to the 2 permanent signings quote, Simpson would be classed as one. (Insert random Championship defender/free agent) being the other.
  18. I have it on great authority that Oba had all of his clothes were tailor-made out of Kevlar to protect him from mysterious shootings. It's not cheap stuff.
  19. Clean shirt, new shoes and I don't know what I am gonna do. Silk suit, black tie, I don't need a reason why. They come runnin' just as fast as they can cause every girl is crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man.
  20. Just realised, I forgot to vote. I think he should 'Suit up'.
  21. There is a facebook group about this. I believe it's called something like 'Get Hught a suit'. Those who vote yes should join it (if you're into that kind of thing).
  22. Since we have now established he's a defender, he seems to have a pretty good goal scoring record.

  24. And Townsend rang in sick to Talksport to day. Clearly having a job interview for MOTD. That's sealed it for me. It mus be true.
