  1. Shall we not give it another 3-4 months to see how we get on? Its still very earl days.

Tiote, Cabaye, Marveaux, Ben-Arfa, Santone, Abeid.....

Havent these all arrived under his watch and probably a few others who slip my mind?

what are we actually saying about these signings?

    french league winning captain

well known french ligue 1 winger bound for liverpool

5 times (?) ligue 1 winner and all round famous frenchie ex-wonderkid

italian u21 international and 'new maldini'

as much as carr, unless it falls under his remit, the people who are sniffing out the deals and finalising them deserve massive amounts of credit imo

    Exactly.

  2. Jonas definately should be used against stronger teams with good wingers, he'll hold up the wings and get possession, against a team where we really want to be testing their full backs and anticipate being domiinate, there's a good argument for stronger players. Looking at his stats for Aston Villa game his passing was good but he never successfully passed into box, and only once even tried, his shots weren't good either, but his passing was, and he tackled successfully more than Tiote or Colo (not by much) and further up the pitch.

I wonder if he could actually be moved into the middle should we lose one of our main midfielders to injury.

We have enough cover i.e. Gosling, Abeid, Guthrie. Would not like to see him in Tiote/Cabaye's position... at all.

  3. The thing is virtually everyone wants to see him given a start on the left wing instead of Jonas so making excuses etc is only putting off the inevitable.

I would get my best team starting on Saturday and try and build up some game time / understanding against the "lesser" teams than put it off and start introducing them against the Manchesters and Chelsea.

    Really? Who?

Well virtually everyone who has posted regarding the situation in the last 24 hours.

Even Jonas fans seem to be accepting the left wing is no longer his and hoping he gets a shot on the right wing instead of Obertan.

I think we should perhaps wait and see what Marveaux is like against Premiership opposition before saying the left-side is no longer Gutierrez's (I do believe that when fully fit, Marveaux can be a more effective winger than Gutierrez).

Btw, I look forward to watching many of the clueless on here eat their words about how Marveaux isn't a traditional winger who attacks the RB - and should be played from the right, cutting inside.

  4. I actually rate Jonas as one of our most important players. Runs and runs all game and wins many free kickis in dangerous positions. I would seriously give him a blast on the right, didnt he play there against Man U and Bolton in the early games of the 08/09 season? I was convinced we were going to come about 6th after that mind . A front 4 of Jonas,Ben Arfa, Marveaux and Ba with Cabaye and Tiote behind them is very exciting. Then we have the likes of Obertan, Best, Gosling, Vuckic and Sammy to use from the bench to change the game.

Would like to see Jonas given a proper chance on the right, with Marveaux on the left. Really unsure about Obertan, would rather we use him as an impact substitute for the time being.

On the other hand, Gutierrez's contract expires the summer after next, which means he could be sold this summer. Obertan probably has more of a future here - so maybe it should be him starting...

Are you serious? Play Obertan because Jonas only has 2 years left on his contract?

I'd rather Jonas start on the right-hand side. If he is to be sold this summer however, the club may want to keep Obertan in the side and hope that he develops...

  6. Really positive photo IMO. When he was going back to France all the time I always worried that he wasn't getting too involved with the rest of the team and the club. Good to see him happy and hyped that we've scored.

So true. There's no such thing as Hatem Ben Arfa being too enthusiastic.

  7. Has he played in any reserve matches?

I thought it would have been better to have a couple under his belt before giving him a run out in the first team proper, after such a lengthy time out?

Exactly. That makes much too much sense though...

Leave him out of the match against Forest entirely. Give him 20/25 minutes against Blackburn.

I'd have him in the match squad for Wolves away (1 Oct), but given their reputation I wouldn't consider bringing him on.

With a few reserve matches (or friendlies) under his belt during International week he would ideally be able to start against Spurs on October 16.
