I have a conspiracy theory here. Look at last season, good start plenty points on the board by Jan. Then to avoid europe and success etc, a deliberate s*** run in. The owners have found this leaves Fans unhappy at season ticket time. Clubs new plan- have s*** start to seasons and try and finish/ survive stronger-= some happier, more optimistic fans in the summer when selling season tickets. Seems an awful risky tactic. ...... but cheap.

had 5 days in the hills. limited internet- only had 5 live updates for the match. but noticed Ahsley looking pretty unhappy on MoTD- anyone notice this? What did the forum make of this saturday?

too lazy to go back too far, but premiership years 97-98 - 35 goals. in 80-81 only 30 across 42 games. was just thinking that it was around 34 goals with daglish. 80-81 Alan shoulder may have top scored with 6 iirc. (2div tho) looking like an equally uninspiring season this one. Bobby Shinton with 7 if I remember right yeah , just looked it up- shoulder was season before with 21 tho- bit better.

Said this before. but what bad could come of making the club sucessful?- the profile of sports direct would rocket- the merchandising opportunities from just a cup final alone, and his likeability that he apparently craves- well we would be building statues of him if he brought us real sucess.

Hes fulfilling his requirements for the owners- survival in the league, profits from player sales, 50,000 fans. they have no need or wish to get rid of him. He just about survives in the league though realistically and without a game winner like Remy or Ba in the team we'll seriously struggle this season. There's no where to hide for Pardew now and we'll definitely be in the dog fight, the warning signs were there in the second half of last season. Do you think Ashley would get rid of Pardew if we went down? It wouldn't surprise me if Ashley gave him a chance to get us straight back up, remember he gave Hughton the job when we went down last time which before the season was a massive risk. I have lost all faith in him and the cronies running the club- Im not certain they would even sack him if we were relegated. They would look at the parachute payments, ask him if he could get us back up- if the numbers worked- he would be kept.
