It's just a bog standard transfer saga. Palace are publicly digging in to please fans and draw out other bids, we're still at the table trying to negotiate what we deem is a fair price for our number one target. I don't think it reflects particularly badly on either club, granted Parish is a bit of a gobshite.

These snippets from Douglas are fairly interesting.

Makes no difference to PSR, but might do to the budget.
-
Douglas also reporting while we've sourced alternatives we haven't walked away yet.

I personally think the last bid was too much, but I'll give the club the benefit of the doubt. I don't really see what's embarssing about it.

I might have a look for some light reading

We're the only set of fans who could describe going all out for our number one target as "desperate", "pathetic" and "embarrassing".

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-13750961/Newcastles-fourth-bid-Marc-Guehi-65m-set-FAIL-despite-Magpies-moving-closer-Crystal-Palaces-valuation-Eddie-Howes-consider-new-options.html Crystal Palace are set to reject an initial £60million offer from Newcastle for Marc Guehi. Mail Sport first revealed the news that the Magpies had submitted their fourth offer for the England international on Friday morning. But sources close to the deal are indicating that the package is still not suitable for Palace. It is understood the latest offer comprises of a guaranteed £60million plus a further £5million in add-ons. Palace want a minimum £65million for Guehi and it appears chairman Steve Parish is demanding that amount in guaranteed money, excluding additional bonuses, meaning Newcastle face paying closer to £70million to complete the transfer. Newcastle are now contemplating walking away from the deal although it remains to be seen whether they are prepared to bring their pursuit of Eddie Howe’s No 1 target to a end.

Also interesting wording in the Telegraph and Mail. "Set to be rejected" and "not enough to contemplate selling". Almost reads like a threat.
-
Think if this happens, we won't hear about another bid. It'll just be deal agreed.
-
Read in the Athletic we'd agreed term with Thiaw before pivoting to Guehi. I wonder if we revisit that deal.
-
Good value, but doubt we go near him on character grounds.
-
Could be quite an exciting two weeks with £65 million burning a hole in our pockets.
-
Absolutely no issue with Palace digging in. I'd want us to do so with our best players. I just don't think we should continue to raise our bid. £65 million is a ludicrous fee, especially in the world of PSR.

Unless we've been working on things in the background of course.
