Honestly if it is a shorter deal, that would've surely been at our behest. He is 29 tomorrow and this will be the most lucrative contract of his career (in Europe at least...) Any player with even a half competent agent is going to want that contract term stretched out for as long as possible.

The shorter deal can also work in our favour if he is only seen as a stop gap for a couple of seasons. Makes it more likely we realise a profit on the other side as his book value will be significantly lower compared to if it was spread out over the full 5 years.

I think we need to see how this shakes out I guess.
