Newcastle U18s 1 West Brom U18s 3
It's now just one win in eight games for our ailing
Academy side, who ended their home programme on Saturday with defeat at the hands of the Baggies.
Tormentor-in-chief for the visitors at Darsley Park was Albion striker Chris Wood, with a first half hat trick. The New Zealand youth international made his first team
debut last month after a run of scoring at junior level - and took just eight minutes to shoot his side ahead.
His second came on 15 minutes and when United defender Dan Leadbitter gave away a penalty on 40 minutes, George beat Jak Alnwick for his - and Albion's - third.
Newcastle had scarcely been spotted as an attacking force by that point, with a Phil Airey effort tipped over
on half time the first time Albion's keeper was tested.
Airey then made his mark on the game in unwanted fashion, receiving a straight red card on 58 minutes
after a poor two-footed tackle from behind.
United did reduce the arrears nine minutes later, when Brad Inman got on the end of a Haris Vucki centre from the left flank to head home his fourth goal of the season.
Despite an improved display however, an under-strength United with several players out of position could do nothing to further reduce the arrears against the Albion.
