Last post from me on this just so I dont derail the thread. But I dont at all mind fans of individual players. Or global superstars. In my lifetime I've loved players because of their individuality. Figo, Totti, Zidane, Beckham. There's shitloads. Its Messi v Ronaldo I dont like and the "hype" that's created around it. The artificial hype, more so than two fans talking it out between them. Just feels awfully fake. Which is awful to associate with two of the worlds greatest footballers of all time. Kind of wish they were around in different times to each other so you could just appreciate a footballer without everything that inevitably comes next.

In a way, I cant wait for the cult of Ronaldo and Messi to end when theyve both retired. They've brought about, through no fault of their own, the absolute worst kind of football fan. What about the rest of the team, or the league? God forbid the area and the history. Also the business of football and sport have created such a foul tasting aura around them with a horrible commercialisation of them as individuals. Totally detracting from football itself. I mean I love watching both quite obviously, but Im sick to fucking death of the business of them. Even more the consumers of that business.
