The one that has gone from us wanting a forward 12 days ago to not wanting one now because Ba is now proven in the league and we don't want to waste money on a player who will fight Ben Arfa for a place on the bench. Is that why?

I would have agreed with you before it became known that we no longer want a forward and have now switched our attentions to a defender. Oh, silly me. Erm, that's one for the conspiracy theorists then.

OK OK, you know what I meant; why pose that (seemingly) odd question?

Odd; why would you suggest that?
  5. Heh, even our FM researcher underrates Colo
  6. Probably, but you'd like to think that Obertan took the approximate IQs of the fans who were booing him into consideration.
  7. Ooo didn't know that Suarez was suspended for our game. Excellent.
  8. Media in 'printing the truth' shocker. Understandable why The scouse Queen is trying protect Carroll.
  9. We need a striker and the conditions were right to sign Maiga, until he failed his medical. I hope that the club find a suitable defensive target where we can get him in under the right conditions.
  10. Possibly because we need him now and so we beat the competition we would no doubt come up against in the summer.
  11. Jesus wept. I think you're suffering from "Battered wife syndrome". The club do it because they love us! The fans are the annoying son - let's call him a nice simple everyday name, say Cassius - who was once spoiled with new wonderful big name toys bought at no expense year in year out. The wife, had been running up unsustainable credit card bills, buying such over priced second hand junk from the big chain stores clearance sales in order to keep Cassius happy. The father, Mike, having seen the light of day a year or two back, has a difficult job. He knows that the family has to be successful and that Cassius has to be kept happy and interested, but the wife must be stopped and the huge credit card bills brought under control. The medicine is tough but the patient is sick. So the farther has no choice but to beat the s*** out of his wife, oh and cut-up the credit cards whilst he is at it. Sure the wife is bloody, bruised and has no means of buying even the most basic of food (for now) and Cassius has daily temper tantrums, but the farther knows that in a few years time his frugal beatings should turn the family around.
  12. I wouldn't call the club trying to address a serious weakness in our squad depth a defeatist attitude. We need both a striker and a defender. There shouldn't be talk about one or the other. There has been talk of both from the club; we have clearly attempted to bring in both. It's just that we are now seemingly unable to bring in a striker, for whatever reasons.
  13. I'd have hoped more than a year of alleged scouting from the best scout in Europe would leave us with more than one idea. Fact is that saving money comes before the needs of an ambitious football team. Well we don't know how many options the club had/has behind the scenes. We may very well have investigated several avenues to no avail. We will never know the full extent of what happens behind the scenes, so it's difficult to get worked up about it. Secondly, being frugal is part of, and somewhat of a major requirement, of the long term ambitions of the club. My only concern here is the club fulfilling the expectations of the fans and more importantly the players. As fans tend to always set high expectations, I hope that the players (especially our important group; Colo, Ba, Cabaye, Tiote, Ben Arfa and co) appreciate the progress that has been made and wont be too disappointed if we fail to claim 7th spot. So, the only problem I would have with the club not signing a striker would be if it meant that we would no longer be in the running for 7th.

  15. You have to assume that the club has come out with this stance so early as they expect there to be almost no (or little) value in the market for the club. I'm willing to accept this as I would rather the club had its eyes firmly fixed on the long term. I wouldn't want us to risk a January signing that would almost certainly be over-priced and rushed, now that our only realistic target is no longer an option.

  18. Haha, reminds me of a Monkey Dust sketch.
  19. Their stat based midfield signings (Downing and Henderson) really haven't paid off at all. Although, you'd think that two of the best deliverers of the ball in the EPL last season should at least muster a few goals with the best target man from last season...
  20. Mate of a mate who whispered a mate about a mate sort of gossip. Tiote might get sold, as the mate of a mate says, but he will have very little say either way. Hell, even if Tottenham fancy buying another midfielder and are prepared to meet our asking price we'll push him down the A1.
  21. Tbf that same poster has mentioned a few times in the past that his mate knows Tioté. And has the information he has given out in the past about Tiote been accurate?
  22. I've just been talking with a mate of Dalglish and apparently he's not really Scottish... You get my point?
