Smith is our defensive minded midfielder. Right midfield may be perfect for Barton in our system. It allows a bit more attacking freedom and he is a good foil for R Taylor.

Best corners in ages still = sporadic and easy to defend mostly. 1 or 2 were good. Don't care how dross it was before they still could be better.

Butt, Geremi and Guthrie the only senior reserve midfielders now. Two are disabled, so yeah we need at least 2 more players in that department.

Seems since we've shipped out most of the first team squad we've ended up with players who can form a solid and balanced first XI. Although we do need a lot more depth. I imagine that a few characters (egos - whatever) have left the dressing room and we now have a team of similar motivational preferences and determination. So yeah, we have a base on which to build. No sales or shit signings please.

The only criticism of Barton today for me was his set piece delivery, which was poor. Solid short passer. Creative in the final third. Works exceptionally hard. Positionally sound (allowing R Taylor to overlap).

I'd accept Guthrie tbh
