  3. I don't think we'll be throwing the games at all, I just think he's going to have to be very judicious, particularly early on. Many of the squad have been at the World Cup, and so could probably do with being eased back in. If only UEFA would stop letting CL clubs wander back in, I'd be more confident.
  4. In terms of competing for the league, the additional CL games will be a bigger problem than Suarez leaving, imo. Particularly with Man U having all that free time (apart from the money-spinning friendlies, naturally). I suspect that Poch will be playing the kids rather a lot in the Europa, and maybe Martinez too.
  5. Not that I really care either way, but Legia did fuck up.
  6. We're buying Yedlin for about 2M quid.
  7. I can't work out if you guys are bipolar, or if it's just a completely different bunch of people who post after a win than after a loss . The last three match threads have lurched wildly from abject pessimism to unbridled optimism and back.
  8. I really don't see sixth as underperforming, more like par. Most fans of the top sides have completely dismissed us. In theory, it should be us and Everton duking it out for sixth and seventh. I think it's more that I think the gap between the top 5 and yourselves might be bigger than it has been before. That's more my point really. Understood, but then I'd probably have Everton as underperforming.

  11. It's a bit weird to be playing these matches so close to each other so late. You really have to play makeshift teams. We did it earlier in the preseason and just have the Celtic match and the Schalke match spaced out so we can have the same team in both. Of course, if you had a stronger depth of squad it probably wouldn't matter so much.
  12. We've got these guys next week btw. Will be (faintly) interesting to compare.
  13. They basically split last year's league in half, then bumped two teams up to make room for Derby and Brighton (new Level 1 academies). I knew Arsenal didn't do well last year, but I'd forgotten about Villa. We were pretty much the best team the year before, but were in the middle last year and only went into Div 1 because of the two new clubs. In our case, we pretty much loaned out everybody who would have been in the U21s. I presume Villa and Arsenal were the same. It's difficult to judge from results, because you can play three overage players too.
  14. I think it's on BT Sport/Sky this year too, plus you've got to play at least three games at your proper ground (SJP/WHL etc).
  15. They've tweaked the format of the Barclay's U21 Premier League this year. Two divisions now: http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/news/news/2014-15/jul/barclays-under-21-premier-league-2014-15-fixtures-released.html You guys are up against Arsenal, Middlesbrough and Brighton in Div 2. Mackems in Div 1.
  16. I love BAE. Only just remembered the Palace Liverpool game happened .
  17. New deal for Danny Rose too. Even I'm tempted to Partridge shrug that one.
  18. It really doesn't, though. A new owner comes in because her father dies, and she has no interest in the club. The guy talks about the Chairman as the figurehead who has sold the club to all the new players - he leaves because of clashes with the new owner, and all the direction goes with him. In your case, the players weren't sold a long-term project, they've been sold an opportunity to use the club as a stepping stone - and nothing has changed.
  19. That's a great, if sad, post from that Southampton guy.
  20. Been a different dude since Lebron came back. I'm just excited - FF is back!
  21. ...and now they've sold him for 20M.
  22. Yeah, not sure why I put him down tbh.
  23. I was listening to something on the radio in the last couple of days where they were saying that the next TV deal is not far off and they fully expect it to be 3 times the current deal. Foreign TV deals maybe, can't see Sky or BT paying much more than they are now. Sky's profits went down last year from the extra cost of the deal. dunno bt will want to try to get a bigger share of the prem matchs and sky will do everything in their power to stop them, so could easily see a big increase again. Its all going to collapse in on itself sooner or later and then we'll be perfectly positioned to dominate english football With your state-of-the-art youth development? (Sorry) What's the most you've ever sold an academy player for? Spurs have an academy? Nah in all seriousness, Rose, Bentaleb and Kane didn't look too far out of place last season. Yeah, it depends upon how you define academy players too. I mean, Everton bought Stones when he was 18. We bought Rose from Leeds on his 17th birthday. Caulker was 9M, Livermore 8M, O'Hara and Huddlestone each over 5M. I don't really count Taarabt - he was 17 when he came to us from France. If we were to sell the current crop, we'd be looking for decent money for Lennon, Rose, & Townsend. There are others, but they need time to develop.
