Sure he was brought up in Shrewsbury. He's defo English though, born there and both parents are. I always wondered what it was like growing up and living in Berwick. Do they have southsiders and northsiders? Is there friction between those born north and south of the river?
  2. For a fleeting second on that first pic I thought Noel was advertising our kits too. I reckon they look all right - better than I expected after the earlier leaks. And too right VDV is a smug bastard, he plays for us and has the sexiest wife in the world...
  3. Every club in that position should include relegation clauses. You've got to look at the management and decide how prudent you think they're going to be.
  4. Takes his wages off the books I suppose, and if he's not happy to be second fiddle then seeya. I don't think he'd fit with AVB's tactics, and this might be our last chance to get a good wodge for him. I dunno. The best thing for me is that it suggests someone better coming in. Also means he won't be shagging his way round the staff (allegedly).
  5. What I've seen of Oscar has been really, really impressive. Sad that we couldn't pull a fast one, but when you're up against Chelsea you're screwed. As the man said - FFP

f*** off. http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m4vil5J6uA1qj3ir1.gif well played - how have I not seen this one before?
  7. Jack Wilshire still without a return date The rumour is that there isn't one. Not much of a rumour, says right there on that table mate. I mean ever, obviously.

My wife reckons he's one of the most stupid people she's ever met.

  10. Can't remember the last time we were out of the top three. They haven't even included Jenas.
  11. Biggest clue is the red and white Yankees cap. Glory hunter.

    Rangers Newco

Sorry, I meant League 2. They wouldn't give a toss about struggling for a bit: with the opportunity for more money (especially via TV) plus the influx of Scottish fans just wanting to put one over the English, it would only be a matter of time before they made it to the Prem.

two problems with that... 1) UEFA stopped clubs applying to play outside their own countries a few years back. 2) we don't want them. 3) they don't necessarily want us Oh I don't know. If we offered the Newco the chance to start in, say Division 2, I think they'd take our hands off.

    Rangers Newco

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18702275 Headlined by this statement from Clyde FC: Clyde FC statement "The clear message portrayed is that Scottish Football is in a very dark place indeed and there is simply no good solution to what is now a structural problem that has gone beyond a one dimensional issue of where Rangers should play next season. "No matter what happens now there is going to be enormous fallout across the Scottish game. Whether some good can be extracted from the impending mess will depend entirely on the SPL clubs, guided by the currently absent leadership of the SFA." "There will be no winners. Any level of integrity for the sport will be lost by one outcome and financial collapse, we are told, will fall upon the SPL with the other. "In summary, the SFA implication is that there will be no entry to the SPL. The SPL implication is that it therefore has to be SFL1 with a bit of restructure, or an SPL2 with the rest of the SFL cut adrift. There were no other options. "Whilst Stewart Regan said that the SFA did not favour an SPL2, there was no equivalent abhorrence of that proposal as was attached to the proposal for a Newco in the SPL, leaving the implication that the door remains wide open for the SPL to secure their £16m with or without the SFL."
  15. Nope, still the same, don't pay more than you can afford. Nothing complicated. I think Levy aims for the Deloitte recommendation, whatever that is (60% of turnover?) and uses bonuses for CL etc to ensure that we don't overreach.
  16. Can't see Modric staying, and I hope that doesn't become a stick to beat AVB with. One or two newspapers were already making up stuff about the potential unrest at Spurs if AVB becomes manager. I'm happy for Modric to stay, but if he goes that's a nice wodge of money for AVB to play with.
  17. There is a (very small) rumour floating round that we're interested. Probs just a lazy Porto connection.
  18. Who's available that's a lot better? Harry Redknapp? Not foreign enough, obv. We did talk about Lambert actually. What do you think of him? There really aren't many people available: AVB (failed at Chelsea) Rafa (failed at Inter) Capello (so-so with England) Pep (not a chance) 'arry Klinsmann? Moyes? I'm not convinced that any of the above would be a lot better, and obviously I'm hoping that none would have been better at all. AVB is a bit of a punt, but seems to tick the boxes of having his own ideas, technically proficient, and can bring younger players through into a coherent style and strategy. Harry was always going to be a bit of a stopgap - Levy wants to find his own Wenger. Good luck with that.
  19. This. I want clubs to be rooted in their communities and their communities to be invested in their clubs, however much that is divorced from reality now.
  20. Yeah, most clubs' fans are like all other clubs' fans. There might be some variation on the percentages though: For example, Arsenal now have a higher percentage of middle-class, smug, pretentious, glory-hunting pricks than most. If I do say so myself. I had to stand with the away fans at a Spurs-Millwall match once and it was the most fun I'd had at a game for ages. Two of the nicest, most knowledgeable fans I know are West Ham, but I've heard the most violent, bigoted, racist abuse there. And at St James Park tbf, in the 80s. I always had trouble with Villa fans in the 80s, but now my wife is Villa and some of my best friends are die-hards. I remember heading back on the train from Villa Park a couple of years ago and the two Spurs fans in front of me were embarrassing cunts. Everyone's experience will be different, but you're more likely to hate fans that you never socialize with. That said, the clubs I have had very few good experiences with are Liverpool, Cardiff, and modern-day Arsenal and Chelsea fans.

  22. Honestly, he did a good job but I'm glad I don't have to squirm uncomfortably any more every time he opens his mouth.

Sort of. I like the ones who say "We are being made to look like cunts here". Well yeah, but your club have been cunts, so that's not very surprising. It's just a fucking mess, and the fans on that forum are still evading the central point, that the whole thing is Rangers' fault. They have cheated consistently over a period of several years, and now the chickens are coming home to roost. On a purely football basis, I think they should be in Div 3, and the fans agree. The problem then centres on the money.
  24. Because if it was in front of the goal, nobody would have been able to score.
