Wasn’t concentrating and thought Palace were Everton for the first 30 seconds.
-
Was worried I’d be the only one watching this. Might not be a thriller. Hoping for a bloodbath.

Goes back to what that ref said on the BBC feed a week or so ago (Clattenburg?). The teams and refs and FA need to sit down and thrash out a solution re: handball/offside and then all stick to it.

Hang on, who are the PL’s “big six cartel”?
-
Anyone still think the Saudi League is going to be a big success? Early days I know, but the sixth highest average attendance (7854) is less than the number then went along with me to Orient v Wycombe the other night. Al-Hilal are top with 53pts from 19 games, 2nd place is 46, 3rd 40, 4th 34. 19pts clear of fourth after 19 games. Isn’t this all exactly what most of us said would happen?

Football highlights/review shows that put the final score up at the beginning of each match. Sky do this for their SPL/lower league reviews. Just removes one possible little bit of entertainment for the viewer for no reason at all.

Even more gutting for West Brom - Villa poached him from them a couple of years ago.

Very much this. Every team is the same, more or less. Some fans are gung-ho every week, some fans are pessimistic. I tend to be more pessimistic because I’ve been a fan for 50 years and I know how much it hurts to lose so I’m trying to protect myself. It’s just a coping mechanism. I’m no less of a fan. I’ll still scream and shout and pray for a win. FWIW I thought you’d beat Man U and said so. I thought you’d lose to Liverpool and that they’d generally get the rub of the refs. That’s just objectivity .

Not watching that: Darren Bent is baffled by pretty much everything so whatever he’s baffled by in this particular case will not add anything to the world.

Rewatched the game yesterday (well, had it on while I was cleaning and watched some). I hadn’t realized at the time how bizarre the discussion of Salah was. They really do talk like this is his last game for Liverpool - to the point where I had to check if that was actually the case and he’d agreed to go to Saudi Arabia in Jan: https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/13040570/gary-neville-liverpool-owe-mohamed-salah-a-title-race-jamie-carragher-harvey-elliott-dominik-szoboszlai-can-hold-fort They “owe him” a title race. He might only miss one league game.

That’s West Ham. Their game plan is defend and try to score on the break. Brighton were trying to avoid that. They still had 70% possession and 22 shots to 8, but were careful not to over-commit…so that’s what happens if you can’t break West Ham down.

2-0. Another great goal.
-
Celtic scored already cracking goal too.

Yeah it’s easy for me to be a bit more blasé after the last 15 years

It was my preference for us this year. In a transitional season with a squad that needs rebooting I think it’s a great opportunity to reset. Of course we have significant revenue anyway, which gives us some flexibility. Just…can you imagine what sort of team we’d be putting out right now if we’d got into the Europa Conference or whatever it’s called.
-
They didn’t wait at all. Have you been watching Liverpool since their game against us? Been getting the *cough* rub of the green for ages. I will say, there’s absolutely no way that Longstaff one was a penalty and I wish people wouldn’t keep trying to say that
-
As a “neutral” here, the commentary for the last 20-30 mins (that I watched) was absolutely excruciating. If I was a Liverpool fan I’d be embarrassed. I mean, I’d be embarrassed anyway, but specifically by the relentless sycophancy.

Moussa Dembele may have been the all-time great.
-
Not able to watch the game right now but the stats look hilarious. Fair reflection?
-
Oh I see the link. So if his wages stay at £75Kpw you’ll pay 60Kpw of his wages - 12M over the four years. Roughly 28M equivalent deal. That would be a good deal for you both tbh. Not sure if it’s a good deal for the women of Madrid I guess.
-
Referees are there to maintain them.
-
@Froggy Who offered 40M for Greenwood?
-
Went to Leyton Orient v Wycombe Wanderers last night. Support was what I expected - old guys and hipsters . Was good to be back. Neither side looked great, although the O’s really should have won it. They have a startlingly classy CB called Omar Beckles - turns out that although he plays for Grenada he’s a (very) local lad, has played for a million non-league teams and is apparently chairman of the PFA. Bonkers career.
-
Yup. I think it was Clattenberg who tweeted about it on the BBC feed. As he suggested, managers and refs should get together and decide how it should be played. Might cut down on some whining.

Can’t comment on your game but having seen our game against Everton, the discrepancies between that and the highlights they put together for MOTD were stark. It’s just not clear whether they decide on the narrative before editing or whether it evolves.
