If someone passes the ball amongst the defence on Fifa you dont go...well this is incredibly crap but to be fair theyre showing a lot of patience & persistence. Spains main tactic is to keep possession, so limiting the amount the opposition can create. To do that they often avoid incisive moments & stick to simpler passes. Its clever & its worked very well for them as can be seen from how little they concede. But boring is exactly what it should be called.

From the options we have available id say: Walcott, Sturridge, A Johnson, Young etc are all good enough to trouble those italian fullbacks. If one doesnt isnt doing it in the tournament, use another. And Ashley Cole, Richards, Jones etc are not so poor at fullback that the above should be held back to compensate either. Did Roy get the most from what he had?

We let Pirlo do his thing. Basically, we had no-one on him at all in the second half and as a result, he was able to do what he's good at - influencing play. When we were off the ball in the first half, we certainly had a fair few players tracking Pirlo but as the game went on, the players forgot those instructions... That describes their play yeah, but doesnt explain our complete lack of possession when we had it suddenly. We just seem to lose our bottle in general when hard pressed, resulting in long balls & clearances to no one.

The thing is for all our talk of technique etc we were outplaying them for a good 15 minute period with ease The fuck happened Whatever caused us to sit back for the rest of the game is the issue.
