    Xisco

When our central midfielders are the likes of Nolan, Smith & Butt it kind of dictates that the strikers have to drop off to give them options & get the ball atall. Its not like theyre experts at threading through balls inbetween the defence. Then they'll have a defender right behind them, so unless Xisco is a pro at taking on players i dont see him being much better. Carroll suits our abilty more...knocking in higher balls to more advanced positions & him knocking them down. If ameobi's level of anticipation & control wasnt so disasterous it'd work pretty well to.

    Bit early, but..

    I think thats the idea
  3. He had a pretty decent game yesterday. I wouldnt be massively upset if he went if he went, but id only let that happen once we'd gotten someone of superior ability in. If not, he shouldnt be going anywhere.
  4. I think the opposition should have done something. Its not just like a foul which half the team protests against cause they didnt see it or the ball possibly going slightly over the line. Ofcourse if theres any hint of doubt you expect them to sway on the side of the opposition getting nothing. But when the ball literally hits the back of the net & everyone sees it so theres absolutely no doubt atall. To carry on regardless, is pretty s*** to me. You've been done there, no two ways about it. To pretend such an important part of the match didnt even happen, is laughable.
  5. Easy win for tottenham in the end, looks a good squad.
  6. I barely remember bassong even winning an attacking header for us, let alone getting it on target, let alone scoring like that ffs Suppose thats what happens when our sides crossing to the corner flag
  7. Bassong, are you kidding me................wtf didnt he do that shit for us lollllllll 2-1 tottenham
  8. Tottenham much the better side, outplaying them easily.
  9. I do find it quite strange that we could end up selling two central defenders who were part of a team that conceded the 4th most goals in the entire league for near 20 million.

    Jonas Gutierrez

Put as simply as possible. Jonas makes it more likely for the rest of our team to create something dangerous. Geremi might be able to put a decent cross in occasionally, but hes unlikely to get much chance. Even then, he'd be a burden in comparison to Guti on the rest of our side.

    Jonas Gutierrez

Ok, my opinion is Jonas run = set up goal straight away ? = unlikely. Jonas run = Corner which is beneficial to us ? = Sometimes. Jonas run = Entire team pushes up & opposition is pushed back into their own half giving more space to our midfielders = yes. Jonas run = More likely to set up goal indirectly from the initial run because our entire side now has more time on the ball & so more space to set something up = yes. Jonas run = Might drag across one of their midfielders creating more space in the middle = sometimes. Jonas run = Takes fullback out of it so Enrique can use his pace to run around back and outpace their winger = Sometimes Jonas run = Giving confidence to our side as we're controlling the game even if it isnt instantly coming to anything dangerous = yes Jonas run = Taking pressure off the defence = yes Jonas run = many benefits other than setting up a goal straight away ? = yes Geremi run = unlikely to get into an advanced position on the pitch = yes Geremi run = unlikely to give time to our other midfielders = yes Geremi run = unlikely to be able to get back atall if he loses the ball = yes Geremi run = Unlikely to take pressure off defence = yes Geremi run = completely pointless ya

    Jonas Gutierrez

I think your view of things is incredibly simplistic to say the least. Nothing to do with him shooting, i think everyone is aware that HE himself does not often INSTANTLY set up a chance. Ignoring the fact that Enrique wouldnt have had space to cross the ball without his movement today. His ability has many other positives for the attacking ability of the entire team though.

    Jonas Gutierrez

You're purposely ignoring any argument that makes what you're saying look moronic then
  14. Jayson

    Jonas Gutierrez

Ignoring the fact that if Geremi plays we wouldnt even be able to get the ball into a dangerous crossing position ofcourse. You cant pretend we'd play exactly the same way & we can just pop another player in there. The whole point is Jonas is a large part of us breaking out of our half in the first place to get into those positions.
  15. Jayson

    Jonas Gutierrez

    Geremi ?? Yes you're insane.

    Jonas Gutierrez

But what good is pace when every time you get the ball you stop and pull it back to someone who has a footballing brain? If he goes he'll not be a loss. You're insane. By the time Jonas turns back the opposition has moved about 40 yards back the pitch...what good is that ?? Well it means our slower players arent under as much pressure, so if and when they do get the ball they've more time to knock it about & pick out a decent pass & actually create an attacking move. When hes not doing that, he's linking up with Enrique...you know...kinda how the first goal happened. Then you have the fact that we're keeping the opposition under pressure, making them run for the ball...establishing confidence in our side that we're more of a dominant team than the opposition. Or theres the whole not being on the defence thing as we're managing to keep the ball in their half and not lose it in our own as often happens leading to goals. I dont know, seems to be theres a shitload of benefits of having a player like Jonas to me personally.

    Shola Ameobi

The whole point of a striker is to put the ball in the net and win games, he did it 3 times. Not a perfect display, but a very good one in the end.

    Shola Ameobi

Amazing when you consider the role hes had in the last two games to be honest as i said in another thread. Helped set up the goal v west brom, denied them a winner when krul fumbled a corner...even got krul on the pitch. Today wins it with a hatrick & could have had two more. For as appalling as he sometimes is, apparently his positive contributions are significant.

    Shola Ameobi

It shows how massive confidence is in football. If you add in his header that was saved, the shot he smashed across the face of goal with power. Then a hattrick. Fair enough he doesnt have the best control/ability on the ball, but he CAN finish when he believes in himself. Thats been proven.
  20. Maybe Taylor can just relate best with the fans & felt they deserved a long applause after something like only our second win in 14 games
  21. If he toned down his rash challenges & played more he'd be a great Captain for us yes.
  22. Have you seen our Set piece takers recently ?? Barton put in the best corners we've had in ages. Penalty, ameobis header that was saved etc Switched it up between the middle and back post well.
  23. Think hed still be useful, today shows we've better options. Problem is they might not be fit to play.
