Bolton Wanderers v Newcastle United (26/12/11, 3pm)

I think Ben Arfa did enough to get a start the other night, and Obertan's definitely done enough by now to get dropped. Would be nice to see a front six of Jonas-Vuckic-Tiote-Cabaye-Ben Arfa-Ba. We'll see but I share Mick's lack of high hopes. -

Fucking hell, I hadn't realised they've lost 7 and won 1 of their 8 home games so far. -
Now my desktop wallpaper for Christmas Good call, gonna do the same.

Disagree that it was a poor performance by his standards, he was terrible and offered us nothing. Even when he had a dodgy game last season or the start of this one there'd be a handful of things he'd do very well, but I thought he was full-on shite on Wednesday.

Will laugh my tits off if they pay £8m for Zamora, he's 31 next month and generally scores less than 10 goals a season.

Imagine Hansen had said darkie.

"Coloured" more offensive than "darkie".

Such an important game, this. Lose this and get nowt from Liverpool and Man Utd and that's 9 games (a quarter of the season) where we've picked up next to nowt. Obertan needs to be dropped, it's starting to get on my tits now. -
Buy a centre half.

What a player, delighted to have him and never realised he was this good at all. He's been almost our only real threat going forward the last few games.

Fucking hell we were bad tonight. First half the only serious efforts we had were Demba's FK goal and Vuckic's shot off the bar. Second half we had a few more attempts but we didn't deserve to win. Neither did they mind, draw would have been fair. Was quite alarmed by the negativity in the crowd tonight, our lot were getting ripped the fuck apart in the second half.

Even without the ambiguity in the Suarez case you can't go around throwing lifetime bans at people for an isolated incident on a football pitch - the focus needs to be on suitable punishment, education and rehabilitation. It's interesting that there's also an element of ambiguity in the Terry case, although of a different sort. Also, both players are arseholes but they aren't known as raving Nazi lunatics off the pitch, in which case I could understand considering longer bans. In fact both players have had numerous professionals come out and defend them as non-racists in the last few months, it's madness to suggest banning either for life for these incidents ffs.

Come off it man. Why should he be allowed to play football again? If it was an Olympic athlete racially abusing people in their chosen sport then they would be banned for life, why should a footballer be any different? Did you make that up?
-
Come off it man.

Which travesty of justice brought on their recent forfeit of European competitions?
-
Exactly, what the fuck is Pardew on about man?
-
Peasant, fucking hell.

Is it one of them ones where if they appeal it could get extended?
-
That's quite good.

Newcastle United vs West Brom - 21/12/11 @ 7.45pm - Pre Match Thread

Probably along the lines of throwing Ben Arfa in against those teams where we're not expected to win or even draw, so there is less pressure on him to hit the ground running? If he played against Norwich, Swansea and West Brom and didn't perform well, he'd be written off almost immediately by some fans. First I disagree regarding the fans, secondly what's to say he wouldn't have played well anyway, and thirdly if that's Pardew's reasoning then he's an idiot. The amount of excuses NOT to play Ben Arfa is mounting by the day, there will come a point when there's not one game suitable for him. -

Sadly, we;ve set our selves up to know that Pardew will go with the most boring squad selection he could think of. I'd love to see him put in Abeid with Tiote to have more steel in the CM, and then place HBA in from the start with Best and Ba but that will not happen. I'd sooner see him name the above lineup than surprise us in a bad way, e.g. giving Lovenkrands a start out of nowhere again. But yeah, I take your point and the signs are that he'll play those 11.
