I've debated putting this thread on the forum for the last few weeks, but i feel that the standard of refereeing in the EPL and in the country has definitely gotten worse over the last couple of seasons, and i know i'm not the only one. Today was very frustrating. Aside from the 'goal' which i am still to see a replay of. I found the general standard of officiating poor. This isn't just a problem in the top tier of football it snakes down all the way to grass roots football. As a previous referee myself i know the attempts of the FA to quickly try and move you through your Refereeing levels. A prime example of this is the 25 year old referee (Michael Oliver) from Northumberland who has officiated in a few Premier League games this season. In the pub afterwards a bloke was complaining about Webb's refereeing saying how 'poor' he was, and how he seems to have a vendetta against us. He promptly brought up the Fulham defeat in the 08/09 season which helped us on our way to relegation (Viduka's disallowed goal). Is it true that for some reasons that referees seem to have some sort of hate against Newcastle and other teams in the league for some game or incident that occurred decades ago. I don't know! This isn't just a thread for black and white tinted spectacles it is for general officiating 'controversial' decisions. What's N-O's opinion?

You keep saying that, but you do realise that Keegan played his part in both those things happening, right? I forgot that leaving after 3 games in the season helps you get relegated like. Not the other 35 games in which we picked up a meagre 31 points

I don't remember many - any - complaints about how we finished the 2007-08 season with this "dinosaur" in charge, or our initial performances in 2008-09. But never mind. Talking about players coming through the ranks, which of our managers during that general era did that? I remember Keegan turning an utterly crap centre-forward into an international centre-back once. I also remember him giving regular football to homegrown players. Do you? As for the idea of being "petulant" and "dummy-spitting", I repeat: an independent tribunal decided he had been anything but. He was a man of principal. He was a man of morals and ethics. Do you think Sir Bobby would have put up with it... No either do i. I suppose you'd rather have a manger with no morals, who will happily pick up millions of pounds a year for achieving nothing and a manger who has no intention of resigning so they get a big pay out. Souness springs to mind. Like magorific is saying, cast your mind back to when we drew to Man Utd on the opening day on the 08-09 season. I bet you weren't complaining then.

I didn't think about it as that controversial at the time, partly cos I still 'backed the English clubs in Europe'. However, looking back it was a f***ing disgrace. No it wasn't. The only disgrace was that they let Everton in, despite their already being a precedent set in 2000 when Real Madrid finished 5th and won the Champions League. When that happened Zaragoza who finished 4th lost their Champions League place and were dumped into the UEFA Cup, with Real Madrid getting their Champions League spot. Oh. Interesting.

I will defo know you if you go with him i would imagine I don't go all the time. I go maybe 5-6 times a season. Ginet or Howdon (Tom) sort our tickets out. Always a groan when us young'ns turn up! I'm sure he would have prefered working under his contract where he could the final say on transfers (like a manager at any decent club would) and earning probably 4 or 5 times that. Fixed.
