  1. I wasn't born until 1978 and didn't start going until the final game of that season (Keegans farewell v Liverpool) but heard plenty of stories about when Chelsea would visit back in the day. Apparently a few of our fans were slashed by some of their lost in the Farmers Rest. Think of all the London clubs Chelsea would bring the biggest away following.
  2. When I think of all the best atmospheres I've been in at SJP over the years, Portsmouth in 1992, Leicester in 1993, Man Utd 96, Barcelona 97 etc it's right up there. The hostility was different level!
  3. Aye it was a proper bear pit atmosphere. I was up in Block V of the Gallowgate where loads of the daft lads used to congregate. About 5 minutes into the game I remember a Scouser getting thrown down the steps that separated U and V. He didn't have the nest of landings the poor soul After that the 1st half just seemed to be people trying to sniff out Scousers and those that were found, and there were a few, were getting dealt with rather harshly shall we say. I'm almost certain I had one sat directly in front of me. He was just sitting there quietly, but it was clear he was absolutely shitting himself from the start and he got up and left after Van Dijk scored their 1st goal and there must only have been about 15 minutes gone. What a waste of a ticket, and his money!
  4. Well you certainly wouldn't have noticed them celebrating a goal
  5. Said it before but the average age of the ST holder in the Gallowgate middle tier will be well into the 50s. A few younger ones in there but generally speaking those in there have had their season tickets for a long time, many since the stand was opened in 1994. The front and Upper tiers have had a far greater turnover of supporter over the years which has freshened those areas up somewhat.
  6. Imagine it would have been the same price against Arsenal, or very similar and by all accounts there was loads of them in there. Be interesting to see if it's the same v Liverpool. Still remember when they took over our corporate areas en masse back in 2019 with a little help from Mike Ashley!
  7. Quite possibly. Expect a few to get into our end and loads in corporate. Apparently there was absolutely loads of Arsenal fans in that Wings hospitality area at the last game.
  8. If it wasn't for the slim chance of getting something in general sale or resale there wouldn't be no point as all. Got us by the bolllocks though because if you don't renew your membership there's zero chance of getting in.
  9. Think those values are a bit optimistic like. Their best player last season by a mile was Clarke and he went for £15m and after him it was Pritchard, who looked like the only player not miles out of hie depth against us, and they got 750k for him.
  10. Double knock back for me today. No luck for either Brentford or Leicester.
  11. The Barnsley game would have been the one I went to I think. Pretty sure we won 2-1. The standard on show that day was utterly horrific but I suspect that 2 years on, we have a totally different team now.
  12. Had an email this afternoon about it saying that if I buy a ticket I'll get priority v Sunderland and that I could watch the England match in the Stack or Shearers afterwards. Got the impression ticket sales aren't going as well as for their previous games at SJP.
  13. I've been on every day for West Ham (constantly refreshing for 15 mins at a time on multiple occasions) as I got a ballot rejection and haven't seen a single ticket come available yet!
  14. We could have sold 60k for Wimbledon at home in the 3rd round of the league cup with the game announced at 1 weeks notice tbf.
  15. Google search says they have currently have 27,000 season ticket holders. They made an extra 1,000 available as they gradually extended from 45k up to 55k with the new tier on the main stand, to the 61k they have now with the Anfield Road expansion.
  16. Funnily enough I was considering Berwick on Saturday. Looks like they're playing in the Cup. Be either there, Gateshead or Percy Main. Can't decide. Berwick the best day out, Gateshead should be the best game, and Percy Main the handiest.
  17. Haha exactly the same as me. Had £30 on them. Good old Bet365 paid me £64.50 back because they went 2-0 up and they ended up not even winning.
  18. Watch any Championship game on TV and then you'll agree with him. There's a reason that the 3 teams relegated from the PL last season were the 3 who'd just came up. Championship is getting weaker every year. Look at the calibre of players (and manager) we had least time we were in it and we just managed to pip Brighton on the final day. Compare that with what's sitting top at the moment and you'll see what I mean.
  19. I think we're simply following what other clubs are doing tbh. When you are getting guaranteed sell out crowds you can generate far more money by selling tickets game by game through memberships than season tickets. For example Anfield holds 61k but they only allow 25k ST holders.
  20. Aye definitely. Fans make a weekend of it up here and it ends up being a bit of a carnival atmosphere whereas it's more of a run of the mill game when it's played in their heartlands.
  21. Think it's a wind up mate
  22. At least it'll be easy to get served at the bar then! Holds 3k and their average gate is around 400. In all seriousness I actually had a season ticket at Thunder for a few years but a mixture of COVID arriving and it clashing with the bairns football on a Sunday meant we had to give them up. Enjoyed it though. Its a good sport to watch.
  23. Apparently Elland Road was rubbish this year. Nothing around it and the stadium is a right dump. People basically went to watch their own team then just went home. Newcastle has always been the choice of the fans and with the Stack there now I expect they'll enjoy it even more. Got to say I've been to a few of the Magic Weekends here and it's always been a fantastic occasion.
  24. They've already beaten that. They went down with 15 points a few years later.
  25. It's an absolutely dross league which appears to get weaker every season. Not one team have impressed me. Sheff Utd look half decent, Leeds go from the sublime to the ridiculous, Sunderland not pleasing on the eye but have been very clinical with their chance conversion rate and West Brom and Burnley are 2 teams who would send you to sleep. I think it'll be a case of the 3 who come up will all go straight back down again, like last season. Gap is getting wider every year.
