Carroll's success here was definitely a bit more special for me, but I'll probably feel that way about any player coming through the academy, foreign or English. I don't really find any special connection to English players, to the point where I'm much more excited about Europeans/South Americans. I'm just going to find it hard to relate to any player who makes thousands a week, but I guess if we signed an American it would be a different story.

We have gotten better at it recently though, and utilizing players with duel nationality and heavily scouting hispanic communities are two examples. Dempsey even said last year his ultimate goal was to play in the Champions League. Doesn't make much sense to me, there should've at least been a loan option to a European team, then he could come back after the World Cup. I know MLS wants to keep American players, but we also need them moving to Europe for the national team, which is more important to me.

Sounds like Dempsey is seriously on his way to Seattle. Rumors started yesterday, but I just assumed it was bs, he was in San Francisco and so were Everton so that made a lot more sense. Don't see any reason why he couldn't find a European club for at least a World Cup year, but I guess it's a coup for MLS.
